How do I "leverage browser caching"
-
Google is telling me to "leverage browser caching" and put a freshness factor of 1 week on images used on my site. http://www.1stclassdriving.co.uk.
Try as i may I cannot find out how to do this.I'm running two sites - http://www.1stclassdriving.co.uk. on a shared hosting package with Easyspace and http://www.croydondrivingschool.co.uk with Fasthosts, both under windows with asp scripting.
Can anyone point me to any tutorials or guide me as to how I do this please

Hi
To Leverage browser caching speeds up your site as it will only cause common resources to be loaded once rather than every time you load a page on your site or revisit the site. In order to leverage browser caching I would suggest editing your web.config file if you are on an IIS server or in the .htaccess file if you are on an Apache server. Both of these will involve you making an entry into either of these files and shouldn't require your hosting company. I regularly work with both, but in particular Apache servers and I often drop the standard code in to leverage this and speed the site up. One other noticeable speed enhancement I would recommend is gzip compression which can be carried out in a similar manner. If you have anymore questions about any of this don't hesitate to give me a shout on here

Dear Matt,
I don't get it...
Is the answer in the programming of the site (for example through the web.config) or something to do in the IIS (which means the hosting company should do it...?) ?
Also, caching only helps the second time the same user loads the page doesn't it?
THanks

Glad I could help Brian and welcome to the community, by the way

Hi Brian
I think you might find this helpful - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6634302/how-to-leverage-browser-caching-at-asp-net-iis-7-5
and...
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/642954/iis7-cache-control
You should be able to do this by making/editing (if you already have one) a web.config file in your root folder, which is explained in the article above.

Can we use "top 10" in title?
Hi All, This is a query regarding title tag.I have a listing page with list of hotels in each city. To improve CTR, I used "Top 10 hotels in Boston" as title even though I am showing 25 hotels per page. The page takes about "hotels" but I didn't use "top 10" term anywhere in the page. Is this called keyword stuffing? Should I use "top 10" somewhere in the page as my title says so? Thanks for your help!

Screaming Frog - What are your "go to" tasks you use it for?
So, I have just purchased screaming frog because I have some specific tasks that need completing. However, looking at Screaming Frog generally, there is so much information I was wondering for those who use it, what are the top key tasks you use it for. I mean what are your "go to" things you like to check, that perhaps are not covered by the Moz Crawl reports. Just looking for things I perhaps hadn't thought about, that this might be useful for.

Rel="canonical" Wordpress 2015 Best Practice
There are forum posts about how to insert rel="canonical" tags in Wordpress, but I've read about lots of changes in this space recently (updates to Yoast, for example). I'm having a problem with duplicate content on one of my sites, and it seems to be coming from multiple indexes of the same pages. I'll have a blog post show up under the posts, then the archives, then the tags. So, my question is, in early 2015, what are the current best practices for adding rel="canonical" tags in Wordpress? Thanks! Tim

Recommended Min Amount of Content for "News" Bulletins
My company often puts out short news bulletins to announce short news updates. We have to write about these topics for our customers and to remain as an industry leader. However, there is not much real and interesting content to write about these topics. What is the minimum length you think these articles should consist of so that Google won't see them as weak/useless pages and possibly give us a Panda penalty for them?

Meta tag "revisit after" - useful?
Hi everybody, I've rarely seen the "revisit after" meta tag during the last 1,5 years. As some of my current client websites are still using it and I'm not sure, if it's still usefull/has any effect, I'd like to hear from the community. Any advices/hints/experiences with the tag? Thanks in advance and cheers from Germany Sven
