Client has been COPYING blog posts to wordpress.com for years. Now what?
-
Just discovered my client has been copying all her blog posts over to her wordpress.com blog account. So she has duplicate content to what is on her site. She has roughly 700 posts on her main site but doesn't look like that many on the wordpress site.
There are no inbound links coming off the wordpress site that I could find.
Here's an example:
http://thevanillaqueen.wordpress.com/2013/01/30/is-canola-oil-a-healthy-choice/
http://vanilla.com/is-canola-oil-a-healthy-choice/
What are you recommendations for what should be done?
Thanks!
-
I agree with deleting the WordPress.com account and if you or the client are worried about losing people just put up a "Sorry, we've moved" post up stating and directing people where to go.
Then delete it!
-
I'm actually thinking along the lines of deletion too. Like Jesse said, why not? She has a few followers over there, but she should be directing them to her site anyway. Maybe we should put up a "closed and meet us over there" sign.
-
uhhh... i'd delete the wordpress.
why not?
-
I would rel canonical it too.
-
What about adding a rel canonical tag and going from wordpress to the main domain?
http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/duplicate-content
The wordpress blog though is getting its own links that page has another domain linking to it.
Couldn't you just delete it though and redirect traffic? Not sure if you could do a 301 or not..

Category VS Post
I use my website for providing an international service, I made my URL structure website https://example.com/destinations/africa/country destinations is a category and Africa is a sub-category I made an article for every continent and inserted all the continent's country manually, the page url structure is https://example.com/destinations/africa/ and the continent category URL is https://example.com/category/destinations/africa/ I'm thinking about removing the continent article and strip the category Word from URL, So i will use the subcategories directly on the same link https://example.com/destinations/africa/ what's your advice about removing the continent article and using the sub categories instead? is it a good idea to use the child category as a reference for the internal links? what do you think about keeping both of them (child category and the Article)? in case you suggest to use the child category , Is removing Category word may hurt my SEO?

How to integrate two websites, post-merger?
One of my clients has just been bought by a much larger company and thus will be losing their website and brand name. My client's site has built up a lot of traffic and authority in its space, so we are very nervous about losing all of this after the sale has gone through. The purchasing company intends for my client's services to be represented on its own website, so I am wondering, from a technical standpoint, what the best way is of going ahead with this, since my client will continue to work with the new company and would like to keep us onboard. Should we doing an 80/20 analysis, recreate our most valuable pages (eg. 70%+ of traffic is to home page) on the new site, then 301 each of these pages individually to its equivalent on the new site, while retaining as much of the old pages' on-page content/structure as possible? One thing I am concerned about is the fact that a large chunk of traffic is from brand searches. Again, should we simply recreate the home page with a page title of e.g. "X company is now part of Y company" in order that we'll still rank highly for the old company's brand name? Any advice on how to go about this is much appreciated.

Article section on site or blog?
So, I've just started using MOZ since I've decided I wanna be an "expert" in SEO.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | KasperGJ
I run a couple of successful websites in Denmark and I've had some SEO guy do some SEO a few years back, but now I wanna learn this myself. I've already read a lot of books, blogs on the subject and talked with several SEO "experts". Anyways, I have a concrete "problem" which I need some help on deciding what to do. Its the same issue / dilemma on all my sites. Dilemma
On my site i have a menu-section called Articles and tips. As the name implies it's basically articles and tips on subjects related to the site.
The articles are both informal for the users and I also use these to attract new users on specific keywords.
The articles are not "spam" articles or quickly made articles, the actually give good information to the users and are wellwritten and so. I've hired a girl to create more articles, so there will be a good flow on articles, interviews and so on soon. Some SEO guys tells me, that I should create and use a external blog "instead" and post the articles there instead of on my site. (ex www.newsiteblog.com) And another SEO guy tells me that I should run a blog on my own site (ex www.ownsite.com/blog) , where I post the articles. I have a really hard time deciding what is the best way, since I hear all kinds of ideas, and really dont know who to trust. My own idea is, that it seems "stupid" to take content from the site and put on external blog.
Then I would also have to create a new blog, and point links from that to my site and so. Any of you guys have any ideas? Sorry for my bad english.0 -
Link from Google.com
Hi guys I've just seen a website get a link from Google's Webmaster Snippet testing tool. Basically, they've linked to a results page for their own website test. Here's an example of what this would look like for a result on my website. http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.impression.co.uk There's a meta nofollow, but I just wondered what everyone's take is on Trust, etc, passing down? (Don't worry, I'm not encouraging people to go out spamming links to results pages!) Looking forward to some interesting responses!

Just found a wordpress blog duplicating main website blog - what to do?
Hello Mozzers, I am working on a website and found the social media agency, employed by the website owner, was running a parallel wordpress blog which duplicates the content on the main website's blog (200 odd pages of this duplicating wordpress blog are indexed - the duplication is exact other than for non-blog content pages - around 60 category, date pages, homepage, etc. I am planning to 301 redirect the wordpress blog pages to equivalent pages on website blog, and then 301 redirect the homepage, category and date pages, etc. to the website blog homepage, so all the blog pages redirect to somewhere on main website. _Does this make sense, or should I only worry about redirecting the blog content pages? _ Also, the main website is new and there are redirects coming in to pages from old website already. _Is there anything to be cautious about when redirecting to a main website from multiple old websites? _ Thanks in advance, Luke

Changing from Wordpress to html
I am desperately hoping that someone can help with this enquiry. I set up a site www.drug-rehab.ltd.uk about two years ago, on wordpress. I was enjoying top four positions for my local search. Until, in my ignorant stupidity, I changed the site to html as the page load was about 15 seconds a page on wordpress. At the time I didn't redirect the pages - I assumed that they would be deleted and Google would update the changes quite quickly. I then employed an seo agency to try and fix the problem, and have been using these guys for about 6 months and there isn't any change in the seo, despite them creating the re-directs from the orphaned pages 6 months ago. This are low competitive keywords. I can find the indexed pages by URL on Google. i.e. http://www.drug-rehab.ltd.uk/drug-rehab-buckinghamshire.html But I can't find the keyword phrase 'Drug Rehab Bedfordshire' etc anywhere. I wrote to Google for page reconsideration and they told me that it doesn't have any spam penalties against it, and there is nothing to consider. Does anyone please have any ideas how I might be able to revive this site? Many thanks Chris

Blog URL Canonical
Hi Guy's, I would like to know your thoughts on the following set-up for blog canonical. Option 1 domain.com/blog = <link rel="canonical" href="domin.com/blog"> domain.com/blog-category/general = <link rel="canonical" href="domain.com/blog"> domain.com/blog-article/how-to-set-canonical = no canonical option 2 domain.com/blog = <link rel="canonical" href="domin.com blog"="">(as option 1)</link rel="canonical" href="domin.com> domain.com/blog-category/general = <link rel="canonical" href="domain.com blog-category="" general"="">(this time has the canonical of the category)</link rel="canonical" href="domain.com> domain.com/blog-article/how-to-set-canonical = <link rel="canonical" href="domain.com blog-article="" how-to-set-canonical"="">(this time has the canonical of the article full URL)</link rel="canonical" href="domain.com> Just not sure which is the best option, or even if it is any of the above! Thanks Dan

Guest blogging and duplicate content
I have a guest blog prepared and several sites I can submit it to, would it be considered duplicate content if I submitted one guest blog post to multipul blogs? and if so this content is not on my site but is linking to it. What will google do? Lets say 5 blogs except the same content and post it up, I understand that the first blog to have it up will not be punished, what about the rest of the blogs? can they get punished for this duplicate content? can I get punished for having duplicate content linking to me?
