Which URL Structure is best for New Website?
-
Hello All,
I have one client and he want to develop his website but the he want the URL structure for his website page like below:
http://www.example.com/category/xxproduct.html
But I have suggest him below URL Structure
http://www.example.com/category/xx-product.html
So Can you people please suggest me that from above which URL structure is better from SEO side as well as from Visual side..?
Is using - is better to separate the words in URL?

I would agree with Tom. I would imagine dashes would be better from an SEO side BECAUSE it is better from the user experience side, namely it is easier to read. Think about what will read best when someone is looking at the search results.

better if you don't need the category and if the category is a keyword to put it in the filename

Hi Jemin
SEO wise - there's no difference between the two. Both would include the keyword (presuming that's what xx is) in the URL - which has a small benefit in SEO - and so separating it by a dash at that stage of the URL wont make a difference.
Visually, I would go with the second structure - with the dash. It makes the URL read better for me and you'll notice that a lot of websites, SEOMoz included, use dashes to separate words in their URLs.
I think you'll be fine if you choose this option.

Best way to optimize a website for local search today?
A real estate agent client has had a website for years, which he optimized to position himself as a national real estate expert (to get more TV and media exposure). Now he wants to be found for a more local real estate term, such as Westchester ny real estate. Should he add a page to his site that's focused on Westchester real estate, or would Google view that as spammy? Should he update older blog posts with relevant, useful content about Westchester? Any best practices and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Press Page Best Practices?
Hey Mozzers! I have a question that I haven't found a perfect answer to yet. The company I work for has built a press/awards/news article page and I'm trying to determine the best format to showcase the information in. (You can take a look at the page here: https://www.webpt.com/about/press Should I have our team copy and paste the press releases onto our site and rel canonical that post to the original article? Or would it be better to just have a short intro paragraph and then have a read full story link at the bottom of that paragraph. Final question--should I make these pages noindex, nofollow? Looking forward to hearing everyone's answers!

Url structure with dash or slash
Hi There We have a content website. We don't rank well category image related searches but we get quite good traffic for those keywords. Those keywords are mostly like "category images". We want to change our url structure and we have 2 options now. 1- domain.com/category/category-images 2-domain.com/category/images option 1 repeats the category name so it looks spammy option 2 doesn't really have the keyword. any ideas which one tho choose? Thanks! ps: we don't want to use domain.com/category-images (too many root link)

Why Is this Website Not Ranking?
HI There - I have been working on this site: http://limohireauckland.co.nz - primarily for our keyword phrase 'limo hire Auckland' - I am running a campaign for this site from the Pro tools and using the pon-page report card this url achieves an A grade for that particular phrase. The client is working on links in the local community etc but we are not appearing in the SERPS at all for most of the phrases we are optimising for. There has recently been a huge redesign on the site (approx 6 weeks ago) and the old content was not great. Am I missing something really glaringly obvious? Or am I being too impatient?

SEO Structure - Best Advice
Hi Mozzers, I'm wondering if I need to tweak my SEO friendly URL structure slightly. Example: http://www.vintageheirloom.com/vintage-celine/celine-bags would this be better for SEO if it was: http://www.vintageheirloom.com/vintage-celine/bags Perhaps the repetition of 'celine' is unnecesary, but OpenCart ecommerce CMS requires a plugin / modification to enable multiple use of a single term like e.g. 'bags'. Any benefit for $30? Thanks!

Is this new? Anchors showing in Serps.
I was checking out a keyword today and I noticed several listings on Google that had a line underneath that said, "Jump to keyword". The "keyword" was an href name anchor on the page. Is this new? Should we be including more anchors on our pages now? It makes sense as it helps the reader to navigate the page. Here is a photo of an example: 7XwaQ
