International Link Building - France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland
-
I've got a partner agency (non-SEO) in Europe who wants to send some additional SEO business our way, but I don't currently have a system in place geared specifically towards international, country specific link building.
Does anyone know of any resources (blogs, lists, tools) specifically geared towards getting links from country specific TLDs for France, Spain, Germany, Italy and Switzerland? (.fr, .es, .de, .it and .ch are the TLDs.) .co.uk sources would also be handy.
A list of potential link building sources in those countries would be most helpful. I fully understand the SEO elements in play for international SEO, I just don't have any decent resource lists for those specific countries.
Sites in those countries that accept guest blog posts, language specific infographic sites, foreign PR platforms, high-quality non-penalized directories...really anything would be awesome!
Thanks in advance folks!

Hey Jon - I appreciate you posted sometime ago but we have natives working successfully in all of the regions you mention, particularly Germany:
Of course, there are no shortcuts here... One needs to be creating high value link-worthy content and building long-term relationships with audiences in these regions.
Its then a case of reaching out to the right publishers and demonstrating why your content or product offering is valuable to their audience.
Please get in touch if you'd like to learn more about how we could help.
All the best,
Charlotte. -
We never did find any great resources, and there would have been significant challenges and costs to hunt them down. We decided it didn't really make sense to build out a unique system for a single potential client, so we instead recommend a few SEO companies we trust that are based in Europe.

Hi Jon - great discussion and was my question exactly (albeit Germany, Spain & France). This was over a year ago now and I'm wondering what sort of solution you settled on or found to be most effective. I think my difficulty is finding a solution that doesn't force the client's budget beyond their expectations in terms of engaging native speakers to create language specific content and the requisite research and outreach to get links hosted on country specific TLDs. Any good outcomes so far?
Cheers in advance of any advice!
James

Thanks Micah! We're definitely considering looking for local resources to help, and we'd certainly consider partnering with an SEO (agency or individual) in any of those countries for the fulfillment. Not sure exactly how to go about finding a quality SEO in those countries (or who is at least familiar with them), but open to suggestions.

Thanks Stephen! We'll definitely look for some native help, but we at least want to try and put together a decent list to have them work from. We'll share what we find!

Its a different world out there - the industries are not as developed, the site metrics are way lower that what you would expect from UK/US, in most cases. Generally, tactics, thinking and approach to SEO is way behind - remember not many of these sites would have felt panda or penguin - so many are happily buying low quality directory links still
Also US based crawlers don't do a very good job of picking up non-english sites so your potential investigative resources are a lot smaller
Trying to get SEOs in the under developed markets to understand that they cant buy links has been very challenging! If you do find any resources, please share
You definitely need someone native to help and I suggest trying a lot of different strategies in order to find something that works.

I realize this is probably not the response that you're looking for, but hiring a native of that country is your best bet. A native who isn't trained in SEO at all is still probably better than an SEO vet who is a non-native non-fluent speaker of the language.
A native who is tech savvy is going to be able to give you insights you would never have as a foreign SEO. You just need to make sure you hire someone who is tech savvy and teachable.
I hired a French person because I deal with quite a few places in France. She had no SEO experience at all before, but within her first week she was able to tell me things like "This website is like the TripAdvisor of France." She's been a fast learner and a huge addition to our team.

International SEO - how likely is it autoredirect via IP Address will impact rankings?
Hello, We're looking to internationalise our site so that US visitors will see the US branded version while everyone else will see the global version (currently at .com). This question specifically is about location-based auto-redirects. The literature I've read (including Google) recommends against auto-redirection: "Avoid automatic redirection based on the user’s perceived language. These redirections could prevent users (and search engines) from viewing all the versions of your site." Insofar as I understand it the theory goes as follows. Google crawls mainly from the US Auto-redirecting by US IP to the US domain will also redirect the Googlebot crawlers Because of this the crawlers will only see the US site / domain and not original .com website Crawlers can't index what they can't see Drop in rankings for the original site However, one of my colleagues has pointed out to me a company which does use auto-redirects. If a user is in the UK and type in their website they will be redirected to the UK version of the site, US will be US etc. I have checked their rankings and they are still ranking highly for relevant terms. I have been asked why they have been able to do this without impacting their visibility. Any ideas? Given their success have the risks of auto-redirecting have been overstated? How can we ensure US visitors land on the correct internationalised domain without auto-redirects in place? Looking forward to your thoughts on this as well as your experiences. Thanks in advance!

My site is www.grocare.com for one region and in.grocare.com for another region. Both of them have the same content except the currency for particular regions. Someone told me that google will take the content as duplicate and not rank either. I have setup hreflang and targeted different regions for both in the search console. I read many article which say canonical urls need to be setup for international seo sites. But Im not sure how to setup canonical urls and whether they are the right way to go . i just don't want my content deranked. Now i have setup hreflang properly after asking the moz community itself. So im hoping to get some help with this query too. TIA

International website sharing with .com/.au/.uk
I have a small business in the United States and would like to copy our main website for my international partners. My website is a .com. I think that their domains will end in their country codes: .au and .uk. We are open to using different domains. We plan to share blog articles and other content, but do not wish to be penalized for duplication. I have tried to read articles on this topic, but am unfamiliar with a lot of the terms. Is there any way to do this simply? Many thanks, Steph

Splitting a site into 2 international sites
Hi all, I have a client that currently has a .com domain that ranks in both the US and the UK for various search terms. They have identified a need to provide different information for UK and US visitors which will require 2 versions of all pages. If we set up a .co.uk domain and keep the .com obviously that will be a brand new UK site which will have zero rankings. Any suggestions as to the best way to introduce this second version of the content without losing UK rankings? Thanks

Duplicate Content - International Sites - AirBNB
Good morning Just a quick question. Why does AirBNB not get penalised for duplicate content on its sites. For example, the following two urls (and probably more for other countries), both rank appropriately in the google (UK and COM), https://www.airbnb.co.uk/help/getting-started/how-to-travel
International SEO | | joogla
https://www.airbnb.com/help/getting-started/how-to-travel Their are no canonical tags, no Alternative etc If I look at the following https://www.airbnb.co.uk/s/London--United-Kingdom
https://www.airbnb.com/s/London--United-Kingdom They both have alternative to point to the other language versions which I would expect. However they also both point to them selves as canonical. Would this not be duplicate content ? Thanks for your insights Shane0 -

International TLD Differentiation Concerns
Currently working on a project where the TLD of the parent company site is a .COM and the U.S. subsidiary is a .US. This is a first for me. What I do know. Both sites must be live Parent (.COM) targets essentially the entire international market US Subsidiary (.US) targets United States only Concerns are even with non-duplicate content will there be confusion there with the closely related domain, just a TLD change? Any suggestions are greatly, greatly appreciated!
