Social Media Accounts for International Strategies

Hi!
we have a client that wants to begin doing business in Italy and France. As they don't sell directly to final customer, they need to generate brand awareness first in those market.
We are thinking of a content marketing strategy. As they are a furniture company and they create a very nice product, we think we can work a lot with pictures and articles. We think that Pinterest, Picassa and flickair will all be very important for the strategy.
For sure, we know they should create a Facebook Account for each country, but what happens with twitter, pinterest, flickair, youtube ...? Should they also create an account for each country? They are not a very big company, and I am not sure about if they would be able to generate enough content for each account if they have an account per country.
What do you think? One account per country or can we avoid that for some social networks?

After considering my answer and Sylvana's, I would go with her solution. Separate pages. She is right, I also like scrolling over fan pages and it could be confusing if posts are in different languages.

I see that you both agree with the Image Networks strategy. I thought that we should have a separete account for Facebook. Now, I am not sure...What about Google Plus?
Someone can give us more opinions about Facebook?

Hi Federico,
If you were targeting one language then I would have agreed with you but in this case it is two different languages of people that 'don't like' to speak other languages. Even if you can target people per post individually, most people like to scroll through a page's posts and images so they would still see the other posts in different languages. I don't think that it costs a lot of effort to make 2 separate pages and target each country in their own language. If you're good at what you're doing you might even find trends specific to each country and thus make it more relevant to each country.
But again, this is just my humble opinion

You can target Facebook posts to individual Countries (among other options), so others following your page won't see it in the feed.
On the other hand, I completely agree on the "picture networks." I wrote a post last year about that: A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

I have to disagree with Federico about the single Facebook account.
I know Germans and I know French people and they don't really like to speak other languages than their own. I would definitely make separate Facebook and Twitter accounts if I were you, so that you can target them in their own language. Trying to target them in English will not work or at least not as well as you would like it to.
Pinterest and Flickr on the other hand are based on images, so you can have a single account and just add hashtags (for Pinterest) or text in both languages as the images mostly speak for themselves. Also I do think that images add a lot of value because a good picture is worth more than a thousand words.
This of course is just my humble opinion.

You can only target specific Countries with Facebook, they offer the ability to target a specific audience with every post. Then, Twitter, pinterest and flickr don't.
Following your reasoning, you should go with a single account on Facebook, Pinterest and Flickr and separate accounts for Twitter.
Pinterest and Flickr doesn't offer to much value aside from the images, and if you need some text, you can put both languages within the same post.

Advising clients on Blogs, twitter and social
I am looking to put a crib/cheat sheet together for clients about writing content, blogs and twitter and other social. I want this to be SHORT - SHARP and to the point. Any advise is appreciate. This is what I have so far.... Blogs - Tell the world what your company is doing, whats new, also link it to the news - BE INTERESTING - Educate don't just say "we offer this services its great" - make it relevant BUT do not be obvious - ask yourself would you read this blog find it interesting - read it again - what did you learn? Twitter - Treat like a micro blog with a personality - use it to great a company personality do not just link to your site when you do a blog post - comment on news events - BE INTERESTING - BE FUN - Make people want to engage with you - we recently tweeted this:- eg:- Something pointless for the weekend - See fun video link. Do cuss words on social media sites affect ranking?
This is a hard one, I'm sure. In regards to search, I've read that Facebook pays close attention to verbs and that Google takes into account related words close to anchor text and search terms. Now I have the unique opportunity to work as the internet sales and marketing consultant for a company in serious need of brand reputation repair. The company has experienced a terrible fallout from a recent product recall. Unfortunately in this case, the company site has really strong reach, which means that our blog posts, product descriptions, and twitter comments can be found copied on hundreds of websites hours after they are posted. The most recent incident has associated our brand name with words like cheaters, scam, phoney, copycat, and other words that will certainly get filtered here. All my attempts to assure unconditional refunds and offer phone support get labeled as a desperate attempt to save the brand. No doubt, the company has issues but will surely overcome them in time. SEO Question: Should I close the Facebook page and set strong filters on a new page to delete the onslaught of negative comments or should we spend the time to clean up the current page? This is a difficult decision, as I know many companies like Hubspot, Mailchimp, and Rackspace actually look at Facebook pages to qualify business leads (no fans, go home). Damage control suggestions also welcome, but the crux of this issue here is how our brand name and product names will be associated with cuss words or negative terms and how this will affect our ranking in SERPs.

How to balance International and Local Search targeting?
Hi guys, A local company provides tourism services in Spain but its potential clients reside abroad in USA mostly. This means we have 2 search potentials:

1. For reaching international clients via international search in advance before they arrive (preferred).
2. Last minute booking potential for local serach when they have already arrived and seek a service while already here. So far we have targeted USA and international searches solely and ignored local search. We have tried to target our website to USA in GoogleWebmasterTools and link building location mostly. But what about local search? Would establishing ourselves in Local Search (google places and maps etc) be a confusion for Google and mess with our good rankings in US? Or would it add to our potential of additional last minute local seaches? What's the best approach in a situation like this? Is a happy medium possible? Thanks in advance.0 -
Web Strategy Conundrum
I run a business that offers eco friendly screen printing. Let's call it ECO SHIRT SHOP. We offer a specialized type of printing thru the website, then contract to printers throughout the US to execute the printing. (They each have their own distinct print businesses that they operate as well.) As of now we only divulge that we have print facilities in places like chicago, seattle, etc. but do not display addresses as we do not want to confuse customers. By not displaying these addresses, I feel we are missing huge opportunities to be listed by services like Yelp, Google places, etc - consequentially losing highly convertible geography specific search traffic. Ques: The print shops are open to us displaying facility address info, even somehow saying that Print Shop X prints for the ECO SHIRT SHOP network. I want to be transparent with customers and get more localized traffic, but don't want to confuse operations or give away business. For all you strategy guru's out there, how would you handle this? I am at a cross roads, and how we move forward is hugely important for the future of our business. Thanks, as always for your thoughts on this.

Do you split your personalities up? Do you have a private, personal Twitter acccount in addition to your professional Twitter account?
I read a lot on SEO, but I read way more on another unrelated subject matter (and have way more to say). Should I split my Twitter account into two distinct accounts (one for each subject matter)? Do you keep a private, personal Twitter for screwing around with your friends and/or getting the word out on social issues pertaining only to your social circle? Or do you just use your professional account for this? Or do you somehow manage to not "waste time" on purely personal social networking? [UPDATE: To abstract my question a bit: should I cultivate distinctly branded personal nicknames for different spaces that I am interested in? I have gone by "Loudogg" all my life but I am now afraid that as I grow professionally in different unrelated sectors that I will dilute my personal brand by Tweeting (and doing other activities) along too many different subjects as "Loudogg". To complicate matters, I am actually involved in more than 2 fields, and would like to grow in at least 3. Should I develop multiple personalities entirely? It just feels wrong.]
