How do i fix the problem of having 2 url's splitting my rankings?
-
please excuse my noobness.
i have a nice site, www.soundsenglish.com which I built from scratch and learned by doing. It has lots of nice content and it does ok, my rankings are woeful mostly cos of all the mistakes i made building it...i'll fix that stuff. This stuff i don't know about.
from my adsense i get 2 listings www.soundsenglish.com and soundsenglish.com
wierdly the second one gets consistently higher paying ads although most of the visitors come through the first but they are both the same landing page same content -as far as i can tell.
when i try to find rankings, use the seo tools etc i get diferent scores, so whatever it is, it is splitting the sites - can't be a good thing.
i have no idea why this happens and i have some inkling that maybe i need something to do with cannonical redirects or maybe a 301 redirect. both of which i have little idea how to do.
If that isn't enough naive blundering about for you, i have a little more...
it occurs to me that this prpoblem is probably happening with every page on my site,
i.e. the 'juice ' is not getting credited onto that one page.
this surely means cannonical redirects but even afterreading up on them
idon't quite get it. or rather ido but idon;t get how to apply it to my context.

You need a 301 redirect from a www to a non www. Or vice-versa.
You need to read this article: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/redirection
Here is some help if you have a windows server:
http://www.seomoz.org/q/301-redirect-on-windows-iis-help-part-2
A Canonical tag can be used when the split pages are the same pages but with two different URLs. So site.com/sneakers.php and site.com/sneakers, here you could create a canonical tag to let the bots know which page you'd prefer them to index.

Which server type are you using? Apache?
If you are:
- Choose the one you prefer, www. or without www.
- Redirect all your pages to the one you choose, let's say you go with the one without www.
In your .htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^soundsenglish.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://soundsenglish.com/$1 [R=301,L]3. Go to Google Webmaster Tools > Configuration > Settings > Preferred Domain (choose the one you chose)
4. Check that all your links in your page point to the correct one. If you link to your internal pages like this you can skip this step.
[5. Wait for the results.
Hope that helps!](page.html)

A keyword my site ranks on has recently dropped from no 2 to 51+ after weeks ranking high.
Any ideas? The full SERP analysis still puts it at no 2 so I'm quite confused

Ranking fluctuations from week to week
Over the past couple of months I have seen a couple of my campaigns have key phrases that change from week to week from being in the top 3 to being >51. I worked pretty hard on the sites to get them mostly #1 for their preferred key phrases, and haven't been working that hard lately, but not sure what to make of it. It looks as though those keyphrases that dropped this week to >51 will probably be back in the top 3. Makes it diffuclt when you are trying to prepare a report for your client. Any suggestions are welcomed, and Happy New Year!

SEO Moz Rank Report
Anyone else noticing the rank reporting seems to be off? My reports are showing "not in top 50" for some keywords that my site is on page one for. Not in places listings either because I know that can throw things off! Anyone?

Google Webmaster Tools and Open Site explorer's links not matching up
My question is why do my GWT's links not match up to the ones on Open Site Explorer. I watched John Mueller's video, and he said that they had problems with the link counts recently. After checking my links today, I can see that the problem is fixed, but my link count differs from Open Site Explorer. On Web Master Tools I have 307 links, but on Open Site Explore I have 42. Has anyone dealt with this problem? thanks. Peter

Why are results different on Rank Tracker tool and New Rankings Weekly Reports?
Good Morning... Every week i get an email from SEO Moz that is showing me where the keywords i am tracking are currently in the SERPS (New Rankings and On-Page Reports)... Is there a reason that the current rank shown on these emails would be so different than what is shown when i use SEO Moz's rank tracker? For example, it shows one keyword has a rank of 48 (via email) and a rank of 16 through the rank tracker. What would cause such a great discrepancy? Thanks

Top ranking with no SEO
I ran an SEOMoz keyword difficulty report for the term "interim CFO services" and found that all of the websites that ranked really well for that term have good page authority and domain authority scores and plenty of incoming links.....except 1. result #5 has a page and domain authority of 1 and no incoming links, however it's ranked #5 in google SERP for this highly competitive term. see screenshots: http://screencast.com/t/NJiOn8N4l http://screencast.com/t/x6tU1RhX4j Is this ranking based solely on the domain name being 100% relevant? Did they just get lucky and hit the google rankings jackpot? If this is the case, by the same logic I am trying achieve high rankings for the keyword "outsourced accounting firm" and purchased the domain name outsourcedaccountingfirm.com and am not even ranked in the top 50 with google for that keyword. (it's very new though) any feedback on either questions above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

SEOMoz's Crawl Diagnostics showing an error where the Title is missing on our Sitemap.xml file?
Hi Everyone, I'm working on our website Sky Candle and I've been running it as a campaign in SEOmoz. I've corrected a few errors we had with the site previously, but today it's recrawled and found a new error which is a missing Title tag on the sitemap.xml file. Is this a little glitch in the SEOmoz system? Or do I need to add a page title and meta description to my XML file. http://www.skycandle.co.uk/sitemap.xml Any help would be greatly appreciated. I didn't think I'd need to add this. Kind Regards Lewis
