Can Press Releases Be Beneficial for SEO?
-
Can it hurt your website if there are thousands of links to your website from multiple websites with identical content?
Is there a right way to use PR for SEO?
-
Press Releases are meant to get picked up by lots of media outlets. That's the point. For example, if you submit to PR Web, your press release will end up on hundreds of sites. I know from experience that it does not hurt you as I do daily for my clients and my own sites/ companies. It helps as long as they are optimized well and have high quality content that people will want to read. Google et al will select the "best" one(s) to keep in th SERPs and the rest will drift away. Even though those pages with the press release still exist, they have no impact positively or negatively for you, and you won't get a duplicate content penalty as the search engines knows how to treat News.
I agree with Chris that you must understand where they fit into your overall strategy. They are only one small piece of the process. If you build a strategy relying on press releases, you are going to be losing that treadmill battle. -
I also had done press release, avoiding lots of links and focus on publishing on a good web. But i notice that the press release and the entire article has been copied after on another web.
Is that dangerous for a site

Having thousands of links from a handful of sites that are exactly the same can hurt you.
Yes, press releases can help with SEO--to a small degree. Don't build your back link strategy around them, though.

I'm curious about sbrault74's follow up question. What is the right approach to doing press releases?
-
If the press release is picked up by another site yes. And if you have 3 links back to your website it will count triple. But don't do any more than 3, it will count as spamming.
Companies have whole business models built on this.

Frequency of release
Hello guys, We have a e-commerce website and we constantly create new pages about new products. I would like to know if the frequency of release can impact SEO. Is is better to launch 1 or 2 pages par day or doing it by batch of 10 pages once a week ? Does it make any difference ? Thanks 🙂 Romain

Duplicate Meta Descriptions in Press Releases
We have a client that does multiple press releases a year. One issue we noticed is that every press release has the same meta description tag and the duplicates are starting to really add up. Unfortunately the client does not want to create specialized meta descriptions for new press releases due to legal restrictions (every new meta description must be reviewed). What should we do about this?

SEO issues with Magento
Hi Everyone, We use Magento CMS for our site and we are having a frustrating time resolving our SEO issues. The site was very poorly managed in years past and in the past year I have redesigned and cleaned up many things. However we are recently having trouble with indexing and keyword ranking. Issue #1: Our main keyword ranking has dropped quite a bit while our other less important keywords have steadily risen. I suspect a very strict robots.txt implemented back in early January may have been the culprit. We have since been modifying it with out much luck. Many of our pages are still blocked. 12/05/12 : ranked 12th 1/09/13: ranked 19th 1/16/13: ranked 35th Now: out of top 50 (52nd) Issue #2: Not a single image is being indexed. We are 0 for 582 according to Webmaster tools. Not sure why... Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated as I have great determination and interest in learning the correct way to fix/do this. Can Bundling Products Help eCommerce SEO?
We currently have over 13,000 products on our site. SeoMoz reports many duplicate pages, which are items that are very similar (different size, application, sku, etc.). Would it be prudent to create a bundled product that has one page, one description, a set of images and a table with add to cart buttons for all of the different products on that page? (called a bundled product in Magento). Then create 301 redirects from all of the individual pages and categories to the relevant new bundled product.

Does capitalization matter for SEO?
Two places capitalization comes into play: (1) on-page use (title, h1, body text, img alt text, etc) (2) external anchor text I didn't think it mattered from Google's point of view for on-page usage (is this correct?) but I notice that OpenSiteExplorer' s 'anchor text distribution' tab shows different counts for the same keyword if it's capitalized in different ways (eg seomoz.org is listed separate from SEOmoz.org). Is that just OSE or does Google treat the keyword/phrase different based on its capitalization, too? And if so, then should I be creating external links to my site with the 'regular' and 'Capitalized' versions of my key phrases?
