Does Penguin Help Negative SEO?
-
With negative link targeting seeming to become more and more of a ‘standard practice’ for more and more agencies and freelance SEOs (I, for one, have had to use the disavow tool far more than I ever thought I would) and the fact that there are more “link building services” that really only build ‘crap’ links than there were when that type of link building worked, I am honestly a bit afraid that Google is really just pushing SEO’s to the ‘dark side’ or at least handing black hat link builders a great tool for bringing down the competition. I had one SEO actually say to me “If my client can’t recover than at least I can target everyone that jumped ahead of them and only spend around $300 on bad link building”. This came from someone I NEVER thought would say anything of the sort and really got me to thinking’ “will this be the future of SEO?” I know the answer is no but still, it seems more and more people are just throwing their hands up and targeting competition rather than working on their own websites and with updates like Penguin I am afraid that more of my time will be spent disavowing links than building them.

Thank you! I suppose I was just really ranting. I shouldnt let this stuff get to me

I think it largely depends on the industry you are in. The important thing to remember is that SEO is a long term strategy and therefore a long term commitment.
Google is always looking to refine its searches and it will get to all industries and those who are spamming will eventually get penalised. As Penguin 2.0 has only just been released, give it a few days and you will see the true effect of it. Keep the faith (even though its hard to sometimes!)

My idea behind it was not to loose any time and effort about it. Anyone can go online and buy thousands of links from various sources for little or no relevant amount of money at all. Google simply devalues those links and allows us to work our best to create a healthy link profile, where we promote services, provide good content, research, helpful articles and such, thus garnering links from a various selection of sources. We had an issue with one website which was hit by a ton of spammy links from some bookmarking services. No action was taken. Seems a bit wrong to waste time and money on something you cannot control perfectly. After all, you can use the disavow tool if you wanna do something before anything happens, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I hope that is the case Thanks for responding.

Hello! It isn't a clear cut answer on it. For example, Penguin 2.0 hit a day ago. Some of the sites I managed saw decreased rankings, while some shown increased. Some of them were hit by what it seems is spammy links created for them, but some have not. I am really into believing Google simply ignores these spammy links as they are not real, they do not poise any real threat, show no real relevance and that's it!

Auto-generated, weird, long URLs? Or possible hacking? Help needed.
Good afternoon, Moz. My team and I are a bit stumped. We are getting ready to send out reporting and discovered that we are getting hits on a few very odd landing pages. We build our websites and we never made this URL: https://eaglehearing.com/Home/gclid/ EAIaIQobChMIo_K0t8T_3QIVg81kCh1NQAKIEAEYASAAEgJajfD_BwE There are around 7-10 variations on these weird URLs pulling up in our reports for two different clients now. Do you think we got hacked?

Weebly vs Wordpress for SEO?
Hi Mozzers, Wordpress has become a pain in the butt as far as plugins slowing down site speed and snippets of codes breaking here and there. My goal is to decrease the constant maintenance that needs to be done on Wordpress. I am curious what do you guys think of Weebly as an "SEO platform" vs wordpress? I only hear good things about Wordpress for SEOs but what about Weebly? Please share your thoughts and why one or the other is better for SEO purposes? P.S: if you have any experience with Weebly, feel free to let me know how did that go for you and if you were satisfied with it. Thanks!

Hit by Penguin 2.0
Hi, The site I'm working on seems to have been suffered from the Penguin 2.0 algorithmic update. It used to rank at position 1 for its top traffic term (which is very competitive) but now ranks at position 12. The traffic seems to have dropped since 22nd May 2013 when the update rolled out. There aren't any dodgy backlinks to the site. The only two things that changed just a month before Penguin 2.0 were – The meta title, description and H1 of the site’s homage changed The site received about 30,000+ backlinks from its parent site which sits on a different domain. These links were as a result of the site being included as part of the parent site’s main navigation which appears site wide. The parent site is a reputed and authority site. So I don’t understand why Google would penalise the site for acquiring links from its parent site (even though they are site wide links). Also, the links acquired from parent's site were not just homepage links but also links to some of its other deeper pages. Can somebody please suggest if they've had any similar experience and suffered the Penguin 2.0’s wrath? Any suggestions or solutions, most welcome. Should I be thinking of nofollowing those links? Should I submit a reconsideration request to Google? Many Thanks Pri

What is the SEO term for Tree Search Engine results when we lookup for a company?
Hi Folks, I have a newbie question: When I do a Google search for: SEOmoz i get a SERP for SEOmoz in a form of a Tree, on the other hand if I search another company, let's say PAF.ca I get individual page results on google. Question is: What is the difference between the two, and how do we usually ask Google to display results of a Company name in the form of a tree or Main Category with Subpages in the SERP when looking for that company name. For my Visual Friends, Please find attached a Print screens that could explain my question a bit more. eAQpw.jpg

Help! I need to hire a SEO / SEM Specialist - Am I asking for too much?!
Hey all! I'm expanding my in-house marketing team and I need to add an SEO / SEM Specialist that will strategize, execute & manage the following: Organic SEO PPC across multiple channels (Google, Bing & also social sites like Facebook) Remarketing & Display marketing Banner ads Retargeting We're a lean company that's all about doing more with less. But not being very familiar with the SEO / SEM world I'm afraid I'm asking for too much! What do you guys think? What's your experience been? If you do think that this is potentially a single position, what would be the best title for attracting talent? SEO / SEM Specialist? Digital Marketing Manager? With the research I've done - jobs / titles have been totally across the board! I'm not able to find much consistency. Thank you all for your help 🙂 It's greatly appreciated!!!!!

Help ranking for a keyword
So I found a keyword that is labeled as "Low Competive" on Google Adwords. About a week and a half ago I optimized the page using the SEOMOZ On-Page optimization tool. It says that I am 100% with everything. My website is new but it has been around for about a year. I haven't gotten into linking and the more in depth SEO. After doing some searches though I noticed a lot of other new website that are atleast ranking in the top 50 for certain keywords, so I figured I could get my page to rank atleast in the top 1000 for this "Low Competitive" keyword. Could someone take a look and see if maybe I over optimized it or did something that would make this keyword not rank even in the top 1000 on google? Any advise is appreciated. I am obviously very new to SEO, but I am someone that likes to do and learn everything for myself. Thanks in advance! The keyword is: Nitro Monster Truck The web page is: http://www.rcnitroshop.com/nitro-monster-truck
