Phantom Indexed: 301 Redirected Old URL Shows in Google Search Result!
-
Today, I have read about Phantom Indexed in Google search result. Because, I was searching about 301 redirect due to indexing of 301 redirected old URLs in Google search result rather than new landing pages.
I've added my comment on jennita's blog post about 301 redirect. I would like to paste similar question over here!
I have 301 redirected following 3 domains to new website...
http://www.lampslightingandmore.com/ To http://www.vistastores.com/table-lamps
http://www.vistapatioumbrellas.com/ To http://www.vistastores.com/patio-umbrellas
http://www.spiderofficechairs.com/ To http://www.vistastores.com/office-chairs
I have done it before 3 months but, Google still shows me home page URL in search result rather than new landing page. You can check following search results to know more about it.
For LampsLightingandMore ~ On second or third page:::
For VistaPatioUmbrellas ~ On second or third page:::
For SpiderOfficeChairs ~ On Second or third page:::
I come to know about Phantom Indexed after raised my comment over there. So, why should not start discussion on it. Because, It's all about branding and who'll love to hang old address in front of new home.

Hi, if you really want Google to notice the change making a 301 redirect isn't enough. You should tell Google that all sites are yours through Webmaster Tools, all versions with www. and without w's. Then in each one of them you have to tell google via WMT (Change adress tool) that you are going to change url to a new one. All this must be done after making 301's.
You can have more info here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83106?hl=en
I hope you solve the issue, at least this is how I've done it before but I don't consider myself an expert. Ciao.

Case Sensitive URL Redirects for SEO
We want to use a 301 redirect rule to redirect all pages to a lower case url format. A 301 passes along most of the link juice... most. Will we even see a negative impact in PageRank/SERPS when we redirect every single page on our site?

Fetch as Google in GWT - Functionality
Hi, For example, some of the HTML improvements notices from GWT, says dupe meta descriptions or titles, for pages that have since been 301 redirected or had a canonical tag added. So, my idea is to force google to read it using "Fetch as Google" - hoping that it will now see 301 redirection or the fix we have implemented. Does this work? How long does it take? Lastly, should I just click the "fetch as google" or should I also click on the "Submit to index" button? Thanks!

How did a competitor's brand name get in google's related search list?
When doing a google search for the term "ulster county real estate" the related search list at the bottom of the serp includes 7 obviously related search terms and 1 brand name of a competitor. (see attachment) The competitor doesn't rank for this term organically at all yet he enjoys a link on the first page with those of us that do by being in the related search list? I don't get it. Anyone know how something like this happens? Innhs.png

What is the most optimal URL structure
A colleague and I are discussing the most optimal URL structure for both search engines and users. Our first disagreement comes in terms of files. So for instance if I have a small site, www.abc.com, with a service landing page and 3 specific services, which structure is preferred? www.abc.com/services/service1 www.abc.com/service1 The second issue is in terms of breaking up words in the URL. Should you use hyphens or not? Using the first example, which is preferred? www.abc.com/services/home-remodeling www.abc.com/services/homeremodeling. I'm also looking for articles/case studies that support either side. Thank you in advance for your help!

Google place page Images
Is there any real difference in uploading an images directly to your google places page or linking an image from another site? I have heard that you get better results if you upload a photo to photo bucket then to insider pages then post that link to your google places page. To me it just seems a bit odd to do things this way. I get that it's suppose to give you more back links however I don't think it would necessarily be relevant or useful for the user. Any thoughts??
