Why did my rank drop?

I was thrilled that my new blog catapulted up to spot # 5 on google last week for a great keyword. I worked hard on creating internal links to my category page as well as improving my content and getting a couple good external follow backlinks. But today, the report says I dropped off the top 50 list. How can I find some insight as to why this happened??

Well I am hoping if I got there once - I can get there again! Can you explain what white links are? I am only familiar with the term follow links.

This is a common phenomenon. For some reason Google makes some sites oscillate considerably and eventually they hit steady state. I know this is not much of an answer but it has happened to a lot of us SEOer's. Your blog will hit steady state if you can get some excellent incoming white links.

Does more product pages mean better rankings?
We've recently been told that one of reasons why our site doesnt rank as well as a particular competitors because they have much more product pages than us. We can see that they have better quality links, which we are working on improving, which we sort of understand can be helping them beat us, but we didn't think that they would be ranked higher just because of more products. They also do not have much interesting blog / content on site. So should our limited resources be focused on getting better links, better content, or increasing our depth of product range? Sites Ranked Again - Post Penguin SEO Help
Got destroyed by Penguin because of questionable links. I had most of the links removed and my sites have been restored for the most part - though lower than they previously ranking for keywords. What is the best SEO strategy to move up in rank? Link Building strategy? Is there a penalty for domains that have keywords in them?

Fresh set of eyes on this page please. Why isn't it ranking?
Morning all, I'd really appreciate it if you could take a quick look at this page and see if I'm missing something here. The targeted keyword (wedding favours) is pretty competitive and the rank had been slowly improving until recently and we've now slipped to 25th on Google UK. I've added a "Pay with a tweet" button for our eBook which has been pretty well received (around 100 downloads) so far so the social side is better than our competition. I've also written a few guest blogs with links back to the page from a variety of sources. Here is the page analysis on OSE. Huge increase in rank ..
Hi Today I went from 8th to 1st place for my main keywork ( barneklær) childrens clothing in norwegian . Ive been trying to link build regularly. Last couple of weeks ive gotten links from a few catalogues and some blogs and I by no means expected a rank increase like this. Ive tried to look them up to understand why this happened - but i cant understand it. Any ideas as to how i can find out. I just dont want to drop 7 spots again without knowing what happened .. Nich phrase ranking
I'm trying to get a page ranked for a niche phrase. There are a few established players in the industry but no competition for this phrase beyond that. Open site explorer reports that main competitor for the phrase this page points to has 538 links but they are all internal with no extermal links. DA is 45 and PA is 25 My client has25 links for the phrase this page points to from 10 unique external domains in addition to internal links. Domain is only 3 months old. DA is 20 and PA is 30. Right now I'm buried in back pages and feel I should be higher. Should my strategy be to build trust and authority or concentrate on more keyword specific links?
