Where is the best place for Landing Pages to reside on the Home Page?
-
On this site http://www.austintenantadvisors.com/ I have my main landing pages listed in the navigation under "Types".
The reason why I did this is because I am not sure where to insert those on the home page where it does not look spammy to Google and looks natural for users.
Obviously they need to appear somewhere on the home page for Google to be able to continue crawling and indexing them.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, Would love to hear your thoughts on Title Tags? I know the best practices that SEOmoz suggests, however One expert I spoke with recently in local search and google places believes that putting your company phone number in the title tag helps get local rankings with blended search (both organic and google places)
They also say that Google still credits title tags longer than 60 characters. G may not show the full title tag however users are still getting credit for them even if longer than supposed to be.
Below are 3 examples that the expert mentioned above suggested.
Austin Office Space 78701 | Commercial Real Estate 512-861-0525 | Search Rent and Lease Listings In Austin TX
Austin Office Space For Rent - 512-861-0525 - Find Retail and Commercial Property For Lease in Austin TX
Austin Office Space (512) 861-0525 - Find Commercial Real Estate Property For Lease in Austin Tx
What are your thoughts? I am looking for guidance on a good HOME page title tag to use for the website www.AustinTenantAdvisors.com

Hi Mark,
Thank you for the comments and suggestions!
What do you mean by this one? "if you are focused on commercial real estate listings, you might have it as a listing for commercial real estate offer under the sitemap"
Create another page?
I already have a landing page for commercial real estate.
One ongoing challenge I have had is what is the best title tag for the Home page since it is the catchall? I have landing pages for the other types of space that I deal with.

I like the site. You did a nice job......Lots of content and some calls to action....solid job.
You seem to be a little off track with your question.Your landing page doesn't need to be somewhere on the home page for google to crawl it. It needs to be properly indexed in the XML sitemap.
Take 2 steps back and make sure you understand whats important. The landing page is to provide the client or potential client with an opportunity to decide if they are interesting in your company after they do a search and end up on your landing page from organic or paid listing. In that process, Google and other search engines will create a quality and relevance score for their search terms that they entered. That is based on your landing page content and keywords first and then your overall site. The higher the quality score and relevance for those keywords the lower your cost per click will be with PPC and the better you will show up in organic search. So first make sure your landing page has quality content that is keyword rich.
Second, make sure it is indexed properly in the overall site....if you are focused on commercial real estate listings, you might have it as a listing for commercial real estate offer under the sitemap. Make sure it is lumped together with other similar content so you will get the seo value from it for the overall site as well as the landing page value.....
Hope this makes sense. Good luck.
Mark

Why is my home page ranking much higher than my collection page?
Hi everyone, Why is my client's home page ranking high for a certain keyword phrase rather than a collection page I have which is well optimised for this keyword? The collection page is on the 10th SERPs page. I did see there were keywords used in the footer of page and the keyword was also used in some intro text on the home page so I removed the keyword from these two places nearly 2 weeks ago and requested google to reindex both the collection page and home page and I've not seen any improvement of the collection page's ranking in SERPs. I also changed the meta description and meta title as the ctr was poor but there wasn''t that many impressions either. It is a competitive keyword organically so maybe the collection page's authority is just not good enough compared to the competitors hence why they are choosing the home page as it has higher page authority however this still is not helpful to searchers who land on home page. Does anyone have any ideas of what else I can do to get google to rank the ocllection page higher for the keyword instead of home page?

Would You Redirect a Page if the Parent Page was Redirected?
Hi everyone! Let's use this as an example URL: https://www.example.com/marvel/avengers/hulk/ We have done a 301 redirect for the "Avengers" page to another page on the site. Sibling pages of the "Hulk" page live off "marvel" now (ex: /marvel/thor/ and /marvel/iron-man/). Is there any benefit in doing a 301 for the "Hulk" page to live at /marvel/hulk/ like it's sibling pages? Is there any harm long-term in leaving the "Hulk" page under a permanently redirected page? Thank you! Matt

Help.. there was a html and php version of my home page on my server for about a week. Now lost all rankings!
Our home page has disappeared from the Google SERPS completely. It won't even show for a search of our business name although other internal pages appear. Site appears in bing for our keywords but not for our business name. When I republished the site I got a message saying there was a php and html version of the site on the home page. I deleted this immediately but was then advised by another staff member that they had also got that message the week before but not done anything about it - so I think it was out there for about a week. Could this be the cause of the ranking drop? We have also done the following: Checked GWM for robots issue, manual action, crawl errors, blocked URLs - all good. Some crawl errors on other pages relating to broken links. All sorted and marked as fixed. Checked for duplicate content - redirected non www version of site to www Checked back links Removed video from home page that was temporarily unavailable when we did fetch and render Added canonical tag Added H1 tag that was missing Coding checked - all looks good There has been no change to the content of the page. We have fetched and rendered and resubmitted for indexing but it's still not coming back in SERPS it did for a short time the other day and then after a couple of days disappeared again Prior to all this it had ranked really well for our most important keywords for years. It's not a new site. The page is indexed as it comes up when doing a site: search. Please can anyone help? Nobody seems to have the answer and we don't know what else to do. The site is NSFW NSFW https://goo.gl/dwA8YB Main keyword sex toy party

A/B Testing - Should I add product descriptions on my category landing pages as well as on product pages and if so . how to do this to avoid duplicate content
Hi All, I recently relaunched a new design on my tool hire eCommerce website and now display my products in grid form on my category landing pages as opposed to just a list view which we previously had on the old design. My bounce rates are alot higher than they use to be and my gut instinct is telling me maybe this is wrong . I want to do some a/b testing using a list view. My question is , previously in our list views we just showed the images and pricing and had on page content on the bottom of the page. The user would click on the product image and they would then we taken to the product page which has the product description , t&c, etc etc.. If I was to do this in my a/b testing but change it so we also displayed the product descriptions as well on the category landing pages . Is there a special way to do this as in effect, we would have duplicate content as the product descriptions are also on the product page?. Does anyone have any thoughts on this as to whether its a No No from an SEO point of view ?... Heres a short url link to one of my category pages - http://goo.gl/QJv5gw Historically we use to rank well for the category landing pages and not for the product pages. Our Rankings are down , bounce rates are higher so I am trying to sort both. We have good content on pages etc. Any advice greatly appreciated as always thanks Pete

Ranking slipped to page 6 from page 1 over the weekend?
My site has been on page one for 2 phrases consistently from May onwards this year. The site has fewer than 100 backlinks and the link profile looks fairly even. On Friday we were on page 1, we even had a position 1, however now we are on page 6. Do you think this is Penguin or some strange Google blip? We have no webmaster tools messages at all. Thanks for any help!

Targeting Keywords at Home page or 301 URL?
Background info This is a new site and I am using Wordpress for a CMS not a blog and I have set a static page as the home page. The problem is when I configure the home page as a static page in wordpress it sets a 301 redirect to that page, which is this domain.com/software-consultancy (so the software-consultancy page is now domain.com). I thought about creating a separate Home page but I didn't see the point as the pages would be almost identical. **"Should I target keywords to the home page?" ** If I start link building using the phrase "software consultancy" to the home page should I link to domain.com or the 301 redirect URL domain.com/software-consultancy ? My thoughts are that if the URL has the keywords I am targeting in it will help with SEO. Or should I create a separate home page and just link the company name back to the home and have a separate page for "software consultancy" my thought is that having exactly what the company does on the home page would be better. But I don't want to lose out on search engine traffic by not having the keywords in the URL I am going to be link building for. I guess if I link build to the 301 redirect URL I can always revert back to this URL if I want to change? FYI here is my site structure: The site is for a small software consultancy and I have the following structure: domain.com/software-consultancy -- (Set as Wordpress static Page so essentially a 301 redirect to / ) domain.com/software-consultancy/areas domain.com/software-consultancy/areas/london domain.com/software-consultancy/areas/new-york I would really appreciate some feedback on this, even if it's experience / advice and there is no exact answer. Many Thanks, J
