Why do internal, fake profiles on revebnation sit so high in their linking profile?

I was researching the link profile of Reverbnation to understand where they get most of their links from and a number of these fake reverbnation profiles showed up that seem to be about drugs- is this spam?
Here are some examples:

There are about a dozen of these on their site.
Super curious and would love any feedback or knowledge that may be out there!

ReverbNation has an incredible natural link profile that builds up a ton of authority. Spammers and hackers take advantage of this by setting up content on ReverbNation and then pointing tens of thousands of spam links directly at the pages. This allows them to rank temporarily.

Menus and Internal Link Volume Guidelines
Hi guys. I am currently working on a site with a large menu structure. In the navigation there are lots of submenus amounting to over 100 links in total. When i have been auditing the site i am getting the notification to keep internal links below 100 - but the everything on there i do need - have trimmed down as much as possible but its all very necessary and logical for the end user. Is this 100 internal link guideline something to be concerned about in this situation? If so is there any way to accommodate a larger menu structure whilst still appeasing these guidelines. Internal Link Building
For a large part of our SEO we have been focusing on inbound links (mainly from guest posts and blogger reviews). But our rankings have dropped (though I understand there is a natural fluctuation in rankings quite often) this week and it occurred to me that we should be focusing more on internal link building as well. We, of course, link often to our home page and have related products on every page but we lack a lot of direct key word links in in our description. Would it behoove us to be on a specific product page--take for example owls and friends wall decals--and somewhere in the description add something like "our nursery wall decals are safe for....and have "nursery wall decals" be the direct link since that is a key term for us? I just wanted to make sure that we are headed in the right direction before I spend a massive amount of time updating all these product pages. Any input would be really helpful. Hello I just got SeoMoz, started the whole thing and compared myself to my competitor. I'm writing for mayor national newspapers in latin america, been featured a few major sites, and got a whole lot of links directing to muy site. I recently moved domains about a month ago from rxmagaizne.mx to rxmagazine.co. Is this the reason i'm not seeing any links ? ibIPY.png

"Activating" Links - Do External Links Have to Be Clicked On to Really Have Value?
I heard an SEO talk about the concept of "activating" a link - meaning that if an external link to your site exists, but google doesn't detect that it has gotten any actual clicks, they will significantly discount or ignore the value of the link. Obviously between Chrome, toolbars, and GA, google does have a lot of ways to detect whether a link has gotten clicks. What is the SEOmoz take on this issue?

Internal Linking for Newspaper Websites
Now, there are a number of do's and dont's when it comes to internal linking, but do those rules apply to news websites that have to interlink relevant news stories, primarily based on their relevancy to the user and the value that they have to provide rather than keeping the idea of page rank sculpting in mind? What's your take on this?
