Google Maps marker inconsistency
-
We just discovered that depending on the address format you enter into Google, you may come across incorrectly placed marker locations on Google Maps. Is this because our Google Places address format is not consistent with Google Maps' format?
If so, when I go into Google Places to update the address format, am I going to have to go through the citation process all over again?
-
I definitely will. Thanks again!

"the highway and the name changed 4 times"
Yep! That's just what I feared. I can't say for certain whether the issues you are experiencing are stemming from this, but let's say I have a strong suspicion that confusion over the road name may be causing you trouble. Definitely try to get the attention of an RER at the MapMaker forum on this. Those guys are brilliant and tend to be quite helpful if you tell your story in thorough but concise language. Please, come back and let me know what happens with this. I'm curious, because these situations are always very complex.

Thank you Miriam! So in your opinion, this isn't as much a symptom of an overlying problem, but specific to this highway? I co-worker saw another location in the hood with the same issue. And my supervisor just told me his wife grew up on the highway and the name changed 4 times!
Wow thank you so much.

Oh, boy! This looks like this may be one of those issues where regional names and official names of roads are at variance (Texas vs. West State Highway 16). I have seen things like this come up in the past, and they typically require some dialogue. My recommendation would be that you try to discuss this with a Regional Expert Reviewer at the Google MapMaker forum. Go to: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/map-maker and create a thread there, disclosing full details of the business.
This may require more than trying to move the marker. If there is an internal disagreement in Google's system regarding what a road is called, this can be problematic in a number of ways. I won't even attempt to diagnose this here, Sarah, because you need to be speaking with someone who has the ability to translate what Google Maps 'thinks' about this road name to determine how you should be listing your business. Hope my suggestion leads to a solution for you. Situations like this one can be a big pain the neck, so put on your patience hat

In the interim, I have manually relocated the marker. Just wondering if this is an underlying problem I need to solve holistically or just solve on a reported, case-by-case basis.
The manager who reported it says something happened in the past month to make it change (the time frame I was working on the Google Places listing). I am going to check to make sure it's not the fact that he was searching by address this most recent time. Even though it still needs to work for that scenario.
-
Here's an example - may be specific to this location (we have 70). Variations:
1692 Texas 46
1692 W. State Hwy. 46
1692 West State Highway 16You only get the wrong pin (image, right) when you search by address. When searching by address, Google Maps is defaults to sending you a location of a restaurant, Clear Springs, whose true address is 1692 S. W. State Hwy. 46. The listing isn’t labeled as Clear Springs (nor our institution), and it carries the address 1692 Texas 46.
Our address in Google Places admin currently is 1692 W. State Hwy. 46, but published on Google+ as 1692 Texas 46. The only thing that has happened to this Google+ location lately is that I’ve published the page after updating other information (haven't touched the address).
Thank you so much for your help!

Hi SEOSarah,
Please provide a detailed description of what you mean by 'inconsistent'. If you mean you've got St. vs. Street or (000) 000-0000 vs. 000-000-0000, then this should not matter. Google pulls citation data from all over the web and there are baked-in variables on how the different major indexes and directories format data. But, if you mean you're missing a suite address or have a wrong phone number out there, then that does matter. Feel free to provide further information about this.

Google's Search Algorithm update to 'Local Snack Pack'
Hi there - I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a big shift in the Google Local 'snack pack' in the past 48 hours? We have noticed a big change in clients results - specifically today. Has anyone else noticed any changes or perhaps data on possible changes? I am aware of this update: https://www.seroundtable.com/big-google-search-algorithm-ranking-update-29953.html but perhaps there maybe another update since. Any input would be much appreciated! Phil.

Without slash URLs not redirected with slash URLs; but canonicalised: Any potential harm at Google?
Hi friends, Our website pages without slash are not redirecting to with slash and vice-versa. Both the versions are returning 200 response code. Both the versions are pointed to with slash URLs with rel-canonical tags. Is this right setup? Or we need to redirect one another to slash or without slash versions? Thanks

New Zealand rankings - Is Google taking city into account now?
I've just noticed over the last 24 hours that Google New Zealand seems to be taking city into account with the search results - when I search from Christchurch - I get CHCH companies and Auckland results when searching from Auckland. I would like to rank my client nationally - any tips? Has anyone else noticed this? I need to be the top of Google for my keyword throughout the country. Any articles that could help? Kind regards, David

Is it me or Google?
Hi All, I'm new here so take it easy on me.. OK, basically i have had a SEO company for about 3 years, they did a wonderful job, for the last 12 months or so i have been in top 1-3 positions for pretty much every keyword i wanted... On Jan 17th, that all changed, suddenly google doesnt like something about my site... for the sake of this questions lets focus purely on the keyword "CCTV", i use to be 1st or 2nd, it varied... Since Jan 17th i am all over the place, today alone, i was 9th this morning, then 13th, then 22nd... I am working on a lot of things my SEO company told me to do, with regards my site, obviously this is going to take time... but my big concern is that google doesnt seem to know where to rank me lol, i mean, at least if they settled on a place i.e 22nd, then i have a stable base to work from... Has anyone seen this kind of thing before, and can i expect at somepoint google decides to simply remove me? Any advice welcome. regards James

Will Ranking Reports be Affected with the new Google Changes?
For example: Raven stopped use of scraped Google, SEMRush data on Jan. 2 Raven stopped offering unauthorized Google SERP rankings and keyword data (a.k.a. scraped Google data) on Jan. 2, 2013. The change included the retirement of the SERP Tracker and the elimination of SEMRush data from the Raven platform. Raven has released new SEO performance reports that make it easy to show clients the impact of campaigns to improve organic traffic. Raven will continue to upgrade reports through the year. We thank the many customers who continue their business with Raven. More details about the SEO performance reports and other recent releases are available Is SEOMoz protected in some way? Or will you have to give up rankings reports too?

Google Cached Pages
I made some on-site changes to a site last week, in particular their page titles. This was all done on the same day at the same time. Now, one of those pages, got re-indexed on August 8th and has my updated changes, which also helped with my ranking. The other page I made changes to still shows a cached version from July 27th, which is before I made the changes. Why wouldn't google have an updated page from August 8th for both pages, not just one?
