Indexing falling/search queries the same - concerned
-
Hello, I posted abou this a few days ago but didn't really get anywhere and now have new information after looking into it more.
This is my site - http://www.whosjack.org
My page indexing has been falling steadily daily currently from thousands of pages indexed to just a couple of hundred.
My search queries don't seem to be currently affected, I have done crawl tests to see if the site can be crawled and put the site:whosjack.org into Google and had 12,000 results come back when goole has said it has indexed 133 and falling. However all pages indexed on the site:whosjack.org search seem to be stories with just two words in the title?
I am sure I am missing out on traffic here but can't work out what the issue is and how to fix it.
I have no alerts on my dashboard and when I submit sitemaps to webmaster tools I get
15,115 URLs submitted 12,088 URLs indexedwhich cant be bad?Any help/suggestions really appreciated.

No crawl errors and only a very slight drop in traffic but that doesn't correspond to when the pages were apparently dropping in the indexing.
I am thinking this might be to do with a similar reporting error to the linked content that have all disappeared also.
It's very odd, I am just hoping that my traffic isn't suddenly going to drop accordingly as according to the graph the pages indexed are still going down.
Maybe its a bug thing?

Hi Lu,
You're still showing 12,00+ indexed urls when I use the site: operator!
Have you seen a drop in traffic?
Are there any crawl errors showing in WMT?
Neil.

Hey Louise,
Thanks for posting your question!
I just checked out your campaigns and I'm seeing 14,000+ pages crawled, so there are no issues with your site being crawled by us. If you are having trouble seeing all of your pages indexed by search engines, then you will need to reach out to the search engines directly (there is no way for us to know whats going on from the search engine's perspective.)
This isn't really an issue with the project, so you may want to pst in the SEO section to get more responses to your problem.
Best,
Ryan Watson

Hi Neil,
thanks for answering. I mean that on my Index status my indexed pages have been steadily dropping :
| Total indexed |
| 128 |This is why it all makes no sense ?

Hi Lu,
When you say "My page indexing has been falling steadily" what do you mean exactly?
Like you, I can see +12,000 pages indexed by Google. And if Webmaster Tools is telling you that you have 12,088 URLs indexed it all looks fine...
Neil.

301s being indexed
A client website was moved about six months ago to a new domain. At the time of the move, 301 redirects were setup from the pages on the old domain to point to the same page on the new domain. New pages were setup on the old domain for a different purpose. Now almost six months later when I do a query in google on the old domain like site:example.com 80% of the pages returned are 301 redirects to the new domain. I would have expected this to go away by now. I tried removing these URLs in webmaster tools but the removal requests expire and the URLs come back. Is this something we should be concerned with?

Software to monitor indexed pages
Dear SEO moz, As a SEO marketer on a pretty big website I noticed a HUGE amount of dropping pages indexed by google. We did not do anything to block googleblot in the past 6 months, but since November the number of indexed pages decreased from 3.4 milion (3,400.000) to 7 hundred thousand (700,000). Obviously I want to know which pages are de-indexed. Does anyone you know a tool which can do this?

Indexing issue or just time?
Hey guys, When I publish a post on our blog, I notice that it barely shows up in SERPs even if I copy and paste the title verbatim into Google. All my settings in Yoast are correct from what I've seen. Is this just Google slowly getting around to crawling our site? Or is something else wrong here? We recently shut down and relaunched our site about 3 weeks ago. Here is the site URL: The Tech Block

Changing Hosting Companies - Site Downtime - Google Indexing Concern
We are getting ready to switch to a new hosting company. When we make the switchover, our sites will be offline for a couple of hours and in some cases perhaps as long as 12 hours while DNS is configured -- should we be worried about Google trying to index pages and finding them unavailable? Any fear of Google de-indexing pages. Our guess was that Google would not de-index anything after just a short period of not being able to find pages -- it would have to be over an extended period of time before GOOGLE or BING would de-index pages -- CORRECT? Just want to gut check this before pulling the trigger on switch over to new hosting company. We appreciate input on this and/or any other thoughts regarding the switch over to new hosting company that we may not have thought of. Thanks, Matt

Canonical / 301 Redundancy
Suppose I have two dynamic URLs that lead to the identical page: www.example.com/product.php?x=1&y=1 and www.example.com/product.php?y=1 The x=1 parameter had some historical meaning, but is now unused. All references to the x=1 parameter have been removed from internal links and sitemaps. I have implemented two solutions: First, the header of www.example.com/product.php?x=1&y=1 includes: Second, the .htaccess file includes the following: Redirect permanent /product.php?x=1&y=1 http://www.example.com/product.php?y=1 Questions: 1. I assume that since canonical is still relatively new, it's best to play it safe and implement both solutions. Is this correct? 2. When I point my browser to www.example.com/product.php?x=1&y=1, it does NOT redirect to www.example.com/product.php?y=1. The address bar continues to show the non-canonical URL. Is this because the canonical tag somehow takes precedence over the 301 redirect? 3. How long will Google Webmaster Tools continue to show these as duplicates, even though I've implemeted BOTH canonical and 301? It's been a few weeks and I thought it would have rolled off by now. Thanks!

How to get the 'show map of' tag/link in Google search results
I have 2 clients that have apparently random examples of the 'show map of' link in Google search results. The maps/addresses are accurate and for airports. They are both aggregators, they service the airports e.g. lax airport shuttle (not actual example) BUT DO NOT have Google Place listings for these pages either manually OR auto populated from Google, DO NOT have the map or address info on the pages that are returned in the search results with the map link. Does anyone know how this is the case? Its great that this happens for them but id like to know how/why so I can replicate across all their appropriate pages. My understanding was that for this to happen you HAD to have Google Place pages for the appropriate pages (which they cant do as they are aggregators). Thanks in advance, Andy

Removing a Page From Google index
We accidentally generated some pages on our site that ended up getting indexed by google. We have corrected the issue on the site and we 404 all of those pages. Should we manually delete the extra pages from Google's index or should we just let Google figure out that they are 404'd? What the best practice here?
