Most recent blog post isn't being indexed?

Even if I put the URL into Google it doesn't show up....
-
Thanks! Sorry I freaked out, the other day I noindexed archives and some other things and I was worried my settings screwed things up. Phew!
-
I see the entry for the page in the XML now. I also just searched the URL in Google and see it there as well. Looks like this was just a timing issue.

It says it was updated last night?
-
I do have an RSS feed, it just hasn't been displayed. I just added it to my sidebar
-
You can submit more than one sitemap in GWT and also, Google will read an XML sitemap and an RSS feed. I have Google reading an XML sitemap and it also found my RSS feeds. I would say, whatever feed you can control XML or RSS get that to your liking and add in GWT for Google to chew on.
-
Ping it ...
Will help it get indexed quicker.
I would suggest using your RSS feed to get the page indexed by listing the address but you don't have an RSS feed.
You really should if you are taking blogging seriously and trying to engage with your customer database ..

John

Thanks for the response. I'm confused with the sitemap stuff. My root domain has Joomla installed on it and the person managing it before I started working here did the sitemap.. I'm not sure what they did.
My blog, /dueling_piano_bar, is run off of Wordpress. I'm using Yoast SEO and I see it has sitemap options in there. I checked the box to enable XML sitemap functionality because I didn't notice I already had the sitemap in the settings until just now. Also, the XML-Sitemap in the settings has "Rebuild sitemap if you change the content of your blog" checked so I don't know why it wouldn't be up to date unless this SEO plugin is interfering?
I thought I just needed one sitemap for the whole site, located at www.howlatthemoon.com/sitemap.xml . Is that incorrect? And how can I keep this updated. We have Joomla 1.5 (which I hate but we don't have the budget and I don't have the time to switch it over to another CMS) so I don't think there's a way to just rebuild the sitemap with Joomla.
Sorry if this is confusing, I'm confusing myself trying to write it out. I really appreciate your help.

The sitemap for your site doesn't reflect your latest post. The WordPress plugin you use to generate the sitemap can be manually rebuilt so you don't have to wait for it to do it automatically. Now that I'm looking at it - it doesn't appear to have been updated in quite some time...
Go into Settings > XML-Sitemap then click "rebuild the sitemap" in the middle of the first section. Check your sitemap again to make sure that it's been updated.

Hello there!
I see that based on the date listed on the page you posted this yesterday on 7/24/2013. Depending on how often Google visits your site, it may not spider all your pages every day. It has just been 24 hours so you may need to give it more time.
Things that can help speed this up is to make sure that you have this page listed in your sitemap
http://www.howlatthemoon.com/sitemap.xml
I did not see the page listed there and that is a common place that Google looks for new additions etc.
Good luck
-
Yes but normally it only takes an hour or so. And I can't even find it with the URL which is strange for sure
-
you've created it yesterday. Why don't wait a bit longer? It isn't crawled yet by Google. All results of 2 days ago are in Google.
BTW: the page is very slow: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/130725_27_2XB4/. You should use at least cache

After hack and remediation, thousands of URL's still appearing as 'Valid' in google search console. How to remedy?
I'm working on a site that was hacked in March 2019 and in the process, nearly 900,000 spam links were generated and indexed. After remediation of the hack in April 2019, the spammy URLs began dropping out of the index until last week, when Search Console showed around 8,000 as "Indexed, not submitted in sitemap" but listed as "Valid" in the coverage report and many of them are still hack-related URLs that are listed as being indexed in March 2019, despite the fact that clicking on them leads to a 404. As of this Saturday, the number jumped up to 18,000, but I have no way of finding out using the search console reports why the jump happened or what are the new URLs that were added, the only sort mechanism is last crawled and they don't show up there. How long can I expect it to take for these remaining urls to also be removed from the index? Is there any way to expedite the process? I've submitted a 'new' sitemap several times, which (so far) has not helped. Is there any way to see inside the new GSC view why/how the number of valid URLs in the indexed doubled over one weekend?

Why some websites can rank the keywords they don't have in the page?
Hello guys, Yesterday, I used SEMrush to search for the keyword "branding agency" to see the SERP. The Liquidagency ranks 5th on the first page. So I went to their homepage but saw no exact keywords "branding agency", even in the page source. Also, I didn't see "branding agency" as a top anchor text in the external links to the page (from the report of SEMrush). I am an SEO newbie, can someone explain this to me, please? Thank you.

18,000 'Title Element is too Long' Errors
How detrimental is this in the overall SEO scheme of things? Having checked 3 of our main competitors, they too seem to have similar issues... I am trying to look at a solution but it is proving very difficult! Thanks Andy

301s being indexed
A client website was moved about six months ago to a new domain. At the time of the move, 301 redirects were setup from the pages on the old domain to point to the same page on the new domain. New pages were setup on the old domain for a different purpose. Now almost six months later when I do a query in google on the old domain like site:example.com 80% of the pages returned are 301 redirects to the new domain. I would have expected this to go away by now. I tried removing these URLs in webmaster tools but the removal requests expire and the URLs come back. Is this something we should be concerned with?

Web developer won't 301 redirect to my new website....what can I do?
I want to come away from our third party web developer and use a new website with different web developers, however the web developer wont 301 redirect the old url's to the new ones. Is he required to do this by law? Is there away of doing the 301 redirects without him? Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks,Tom

What may cause a page not to be indexed (be de-indexed)?

Anyone managed to change 'At a glance:' in local search results
On Google's local search results, i.e when the 'Google places' data is displayed along with the map on the right hand side of the search results, there is also an element 'At a glance:'
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | DeanAndrews
The data that if being displayed is from some years ago and the client would if possible like it to reflect there current services, which they have been providing for some five years. According to Google support here - http://support.google.com/maps/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1344353 this cannot be changed, they say 'Can I edit a listing’s descriptive terms or suggest a new one?
No; the terms are not reviewed, curated, or edited. They come from an algorithm, and we do not help that algorithm figure it out. ' My question is has anyone successfully influenced this data and if so how.0 -
How to get around Google Removal tool not removing redirected and 404 pages? Or if you don't know the anchor text?
Hello! I can’t get squat for an answer in GWT forums. Should have brought this problem here first… The Google Removal Tool doesn't work when the original page you're trying to get recached redirects to another site. Google still reads the site as being okay, so there is no way for me to get the cache reset since I don't what text was previously on the page. For example: This: | http://0creditbalancetransfer.com/article375451_influencial_search_results_for_.htm | Redirects to this: http://abacusmortgageloans.com/GuaranteedPersonaLoanCKBK.htm?hop=duc01996 I don't even know what was on the first page. And when it redirects, I have no way of telling Google to recache the page. It's almost as if the site got deindexed, and they put in a redirect. Then there is crap like this: http://aniga.x90x.net/index.php?q=Recuperacion+Discos+Fujitsu+www.articulo.org/articulo/182/recuperacion_de_disco_duro_recuperar_datos_discos_duros_ii.html No links to my site are on there, yet Google's indexed links say that the page is linking to me. It isn't, but because I don't know HOW the page changed text-wise, I can't get the page recached. The tool also doesn't work when a page 404s. Google still reads the page as being active, but it isn't. What are my options? I literally have hundreds of such URLs. Thanks!
