Why so few links in webmaster tools
-
In Webmaster Tools it only shows one domain linking to our site totalvac.com, but we have lots of external links. Why is this?

Hey There,
Not sure what Moosa meant by "re installing GWT" but I wouldn't go that route. I do agree with checking OSE, Majestic, Ahrefs and other sources to form a total link profile as no one crawler will give you that. And Google's will always be limited (at least for now).
If it hasn't been too long since you picked up the links or set up GWT then I'd give this some time. GWT is notoriously slow and incomplete as Google doesn't necessarily give you all the data.
But if it's been a while I'd start to check things like "301ing your www. version of the domain to the non-www", double check your robots.txt file to make sure Google can crawl everywhere the links are pointing. Make sure the links you think you have aren't nofollowed or the pages they are on noindexed. But frankly the above isn't very likely.
I'd need to know more to make a full diagnosis but hopefully that gets you started. If nothing else go with Moosa's suggestion and compile 2-3 other link profiles. Dont rely on GWT for that complete data anyway.

There are times when Google Webmaster Tool takes time to update the data but if it is more than 2 weeks that you are facing this problem then you probably should try to reinstall GWT so that the data can be recovered and any problem in updating the data can be resolved.
In the mean time if you are interested in check the backlink data try using Open Site Explorer or Majestic SEO and they will tell you how many unique domains are pointing back to your website.
Hope this helps!

Why am I getting links in my link report from sites that no longer exist?
So, I have a link report from Link Detox. And I'm going through all of them and considering what sites need to be removed. and trying to find emails and contact webmasters. There is just one odd thing i'm starting to see more of. A lot of links are on websites or webpages that no longer exist. The link no longer exists. Some of the domains are even available for purchase. Why are these links showing on the backlink report and are they really harming my website? Also, do I need to add these links into the disavow document that I will submit to Google?

Do footer links pass less link juice?
One of my best inbound links for PA and DA happens to be a footer link, curious if it's less valuable or has any value at all.

Getting Links
Hi, Links from Directories are bad. Links for low quality sites are bad. Paid links are bad. Guest blogging is "maybe rumor has it" google's next big Penguin. Where and how is everybody getting all these great links from, is there anywhere left?? All advice welcomed as we really need good links quick! Thanks

Reciprocol Links
Am I correct in stating that linking to every article about your company is a bad idea. I see a lot of sites with followed links to the articles that link to them. Is this not devaluing the link? I've been recommending removing the links or no indexing the page and no following the links. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Do external links hurt ?
Hi there... My company develops policy management software for SharePoint (called DocRead). Obviously, our main SEO push is purely for the product as that's what pays the bills. However, we also issue a weekly SharePoint Community newsletter in HTML as we run a large community group for SharePoint. Each newsletter has lots of outbound links (all coming from the same domain as our product is hosted on). These links won't really have anything to do with 'Policy Management' as they are purely to do with SharePoint. I was wondering if these will harm our ranking in anyway? FYI : The newsletters are here : http://www.collaboris.com/sharepoint-newsletters/all-newsletters and the product is here : http://www.collaboris.com/products/policy-and-procedure-management-software Thanks in advance Mark

Are you careful about linking back to sites that link to you?
Suppose that a trusted website added you to their recommended links page. Do you worry that linking back to them from a page on your site will diminish the value of the original link?

Link building for rankings VS Link building for relationships
A Big Shout To Everyone -- Good Morning and What's Up 🙂 As I read today through seomoz professional guide to link building and the section why link building matters and in addition to this a newsletter I received today that changed my whole thinking towards link building for rankings vs for relationships. It is already happening on social networks if you are active there, but what about on your website. What are your thoughts on the following ? Google's job is provide the most relevant results to surfers online, and looking the link profile of a site & the page itself is the key to determining which page to serve on plate to the surfers link query ! I think that we as webmasters have to ask ourselves what do we want to achieve with link building. To get quick traffic or build slow authority links, high rankings, lead generation, sales & other things here I may be missing etcccc Other Objective Networking & Relationship Building Alliances : What I discovered today is that building links for 1st page rankings are great and will provide me with steady traffic, but not all of it is targeted traffic, but what else can I do to bring targeted traffic and at the same time try to build alliances with other related non competing business owners online. The idea... is to apply old school networking / relationship building alliances to get targeted traffic to my site that can actually benefit from my services. How Do We Achieve This I become a editor for approving resource links for me site, only the best will be placed on my site as a resource. Build a valuable tightly themed categorized resource section with related non competing resources that can help my sites visitors find what they are looking for, send visitors to non competing resources that may purchase their services which helps me build a relationship with them, and may can with rankings as well, provided I am selective with my qualification process. Questions & Concerns Below : What should I be thinking about when creating a resource categorized links page How many outgoing do follow links should I allow from this links partner page How will this links resource page affect my own SE 1st Page Rankings and is it worth it based on getting targeted traffic Any pros / cons I may be missing here0
