Weird url backslashing action...
-
Hi guys this is more of a technical question. Has anyone seen this before in a url www.domain.com/\page\
i'm referring to the forward slash / followed by a backslash \ resulting in /\
Any idea why this happens?

Hi guys, it looks like our developers have figured it out...
I don't know how it happened but for some reason it was doing it on this url: http://www.segafredo.com.au/Disclaimer/ Our site is run on Umbraco (ASP) but the shopping part is a custom plugin for SAP which doesn't play nice with friendly urls.
Somehow they solved that issue but created an other one... duplicate content :S
Ciao,
Immanuel.

Hello Segafredo,
I have seen it before, but not very often because, as Chris said, it just isn't a good format for URLs. As to why it is happening, it would help if we know what kind of site you have. Is it on a CMS? Is it PHP, CFM, ASP...

Hiya,
You should not use a back slash as it can't always be read and may be converter to a forward slash by some browsers and can end up with a 404 error. It's just not a format for URLs. For best practice I recommend sticking to the forward slash. Also I've not seen a URL with /\ or / but that's as I mentioned it's only going to cause you more of a headache in the long run.
Have you found it happen to you ?
Hope this helps.

Changed url and now not listing
hi guys I had this page "https://www.stauntonrook.co.uk/marketing-services/offline/corporate-identity/" indexed in google at position 5 for a search term, after some research in the keyword planner I decided to change my url to https://www.stauntonrook.co.uk/marketing-services/offline/logo-design/ because I wanted the keyword in the url. I added a 301 redirect to the htaccess and removed the old page from google using webmaster tools fully expecting the new url to drop back in anytime hopefully in a better position than 5, now after a good week or so, still nothing 😞 also doesn't seem to be in any of the other search engines either I've updated the xml too any ideas?

ECWID Ecommerce Sites. No Custom URLS?
Is there any way possible to be able to name product urls in website that use ECWID for their ecommerce? They have long and "dirty" urls. For example this running boards site: http://www.runningboards4less.com/general-motors#!/~/product/category=6593890&id=28043027 Isn't this hurting the overall SEO of the site? Especially product pages?

Is it necessary to Remove 301 redirects from Wordpress after removing the 404 url from Google Webmaster?
There were many 404 urls in my site found by Google Webmaster. I've redirected these urls to the relevant urls with 301 redirect in wordpress. After that I removed these 404 urls from Google Index through Webmaster. "Should I cleanup these 301 redirects from Wordpress or not? ". Help Needed.

Do you know any tool(s) to check if Google can crawl a URL?
Our site is currently blocking search bots that's why I can't use Google Webmaster Tools' URL fetch tool. In Screamingfrog, there are dynamic pages that can't be found if I crawl the homepage. Thanks in advance!

Post CMS-Switch Actions
I have recently switched a site from oscommerce (an ecommerce CMS) to Wordpress (using WooCommerce plugins). I have already placed automatic redirect rules for all the products and product categories. It has now been 2 weeks since the new CMS went live. However, the site is receiving approximately 30% less traffic than it used to. The new site has a cleaner layout, is responsive design. As I mentioned, the old product and product category URLs are being redirected to the new WordPress URLs. Any other ideas? Do you think its just Google penalizing for changing site structure? On the plus side, I see structured data and rich snippets showing up in Google SERPs for the site. The site is www.vrtack.com

Totally flat URL structure
Hi Mozzers! I've just been viewing a website with a flat URL structure - the site has a definite structure - with various sections - and yet the URL structure doesn't reflect this... The developer tells me this is purely for SEO purposes! Would be interested in your thoughts...

Image URL's and naming
We're re-platforming on Magento and wondering about our images. 1. Should I be concerned about 301 redirects for my images. 2. Is there a "best practice" path for images? or is just the name important? Right now, all our images are in /meta/images/sm or /lg or /xlg. Since we're re-platforming, we're wondering if we should change the urls. But, I'm assuming this would require all of them to have 301 redirects and with all the other redirects, I'm not sure this is really feasible. thanks for any suggestions on this.
