Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO): Best Approach/Plan Documentation
-
Hey Mozzers -
First off, I am well aware of what CRO is, its benefits, and why it is essential for any inbound or performance marketing campaigns. However i am a total newbie at the actual planning and implementation of CRO, so any advice/feedback on the questions below are much appreciated!
- When planning a CRO experiment/test what is the best way to document it? Should i develop the full plan ahead of time laying out each element?
- If so, what elements should i include in this plan?
- What are the KPIs i should report on?
- What tools should i use for reporting (i was thinking a blend of Google and Clicktale)?
- Any lessons learned through out your campaigns?
Thank you all so much for your input!
Regards - Kyle

If this is something you want to present to your client, it's probably best to explain the procedures of A/B testing.
"Hi [customer],
You are finally getting traffic to your site, however we want to run some A/B testings to maximize conversions on your website. We plan on running these tests and will only have results after 30 days (or more). "
The site I mentioned above will give you reports that you will be able to present to your customer after experimenting: http://visualwebsiteoptimizer.com/features.php#revenue-tracking

I understand the ideas behind testing but what about documentation? Do you supply a written plan with goals & outcomes ahead of time or just guess and test along the way?
I guess to help clarify I work for an agency and would need to present the approach to a client for approval rather than working in house.

Depending on what you are selling and how your users interact on your page. many factors are involved here, color schemes, navigation layout, and content.
In my experience it is best to experiment:

Any possibility to track goal completions/conversions at a sub-page (non-landing page) level in Google Analytics?
We’re promoting our sub-page it's http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/london on our homepage under the slideshow so I need to see how many people went to the homepage, then went to this page, and then converted (enquired or booked.) What I can’t see is how many people did that. I know how to look up how many people landed on that page and then converted, but I need to know how many people navigated there and then converted. Is that possible? I can only see Goal Completions if I look at that page as a landing page, but that only presents a very slim view of the total visits when compared to those pages generally. Any way to check the entire behavior or activities happening through this page i.e. /flights/london?

Goal Tracking WIth Optimizely
Hi Guys, I am finally delving into the world of conversion rate optimization and split A/B Testing. It's all going well, have crazy egg for heatmapping (which is bringing up some interesting stuff) and I have decided to test some changes. I have setup a variation in optimizely, so i can see what effect the change would have, but i am struggling. I am trying to add the hellobar via crazy egg to a variation (it's just a simple piece of javascript), but when I do I get the following error "Error evaluating variation javascript:

How complicated would it be to optimize our current site for the Safari browser?
Hi all! Okay, here's the scoop. 33% of our site visitors use Safari. 18% of our visitors are on either an iPad or iPhone. According to Google Analytics, our average page load time for visitors using Safari is 411% higher than our site average of 3.8 second. So yes, average page load time pages loading in Safari is over 20 seconds...totally unacceptable, especially considering the large percentage of traffic using it. While I understand that there are some parameters beyond our control, it is in our own best interest to try to optimize our site for Safari. We've got to do better than 20 seconds. As you might have guessed, it's also killing conversation rates on visits from that browser. While every other browser posted double-digit improvements in conversion rates over the last several months, the conversion rate for Safari visitors is down 36%...translating into 10's of thousands in lost revenue. Question for anyone out there gifted in Web design and particular Web Dev....Do you think that it's possible/reasonable to attempt to "fix" our current site, which sits on an ancient platform with ancient code, or is this just not realistic? Would a complete redesign/replatform be the more realistic (and financially sound) way to go? Any insights, experiences and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. If you're someone interested in spec'-ing out the project and giving us a cost estimate please private message me. Thanks so much!

How can I track the traffic source/keyword of form submissions?
I'm using Google Analytics on www.nhfinehomes.com and would like to track the source of leads submitted via form submissions. Ideally, I could track if the lead originated from organic search (and what keyword phrase), PPC, referral links, etc. Is this possible with Google Analytics and if so, can anyone point to some documentation on how to do this or better yet someone who can help me set this up? This site is running ASP.NET and uses JQuery so there is not a 'traditional' thank you page that I can reference. I'm not a programmer and do not pretend to be one! Thanks in advance. Link

Create better conversion at checkout?
I'm getting extremely poor conversion rates at checkout..would like to hear some ideas to increase checkout. Last month we had 60 users who added to cart, and only 7 who converted. We offer merchant CC, PayPal, and GCO, so I don't believe payment options is the reason for the exit. Any ideas?

Call extension only showing with some keywords/ads?
I've enabled Call Extensions with Call Forwarding on my Adwords Campaign (found out Location Extension must be enabled, so enabled that, but left out phone number in location settings). I thought these extensions should work on a campaign level. However, I can only see the google voice call forwarding extension on some of my keywords/ads. What's up?

Conversion Rate - site feedback
Hi We gave a website a bit of a facelift last nov with the aim of increasing its position within Search Engines and getting it to begin making sales. The site: www.funkyfootstools.com is now moving in the right direction for its keyphrases, footstools and ottomans although it still needs some work. The issue I have is that from the visitors that come to the site, the stats prove they have a look around, they are just not purchasing - I am not sure if this is because of the layout, ie. usability or if there is something else. Any ideas & feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Carl
