Building Backlinks to Backlinks?
-
Should I be building back links to my Back links, I have a fairly decent amount of guest post on decent to standard blogs and just wondered if I should be building a few medium quality back links to these.
I can understand that I should just build all links to my website but there are a lot of opportunities on cheaper blogs such as little better than article submission sites which I would not really want my main site on would this help?

It would seem like you are creating a giant web of backlinks that you really have no control over. Especially, if they are pushed down the post by other comments and if they are short lived what is the point because they do not generate any traffic to your site? What happens if one of the sites you are building the links to, in order to increase your own backlink value, suddenly goes spammy or something happens and they are penalized? If these sites let you build links easily without using a "no follow" then they let everybody and could eventually attract unwanted attention that might result in a penalty. How soon Google figures this out is based on your total link profile and whether the links are to sites that are relevant to yours.
I agree with T & R above and this type of tactic seems like something Google would catch on to eventually, if it has not already. It is my understanding that the Google/Bing search bots can differentiate between high quality links and links from forums and other low quality sites. If so, the secondary links you are trying to build are not being given as much value as you might think. Time spent pursuing ways to skirt the algorithm is time wasted that could have been spent developing the other high ranking backlinks.

Hi Bob,
LIke what Ricky said, spending your time on building quality backlinks will be better and has more power over building backlinks to your backlinks. Building backlinks for backlinks will work since it gives the backlink pointing to your site more authority which will benefit you. However, by doing so, it is the same as building backlinks for another site so why not spend the time building backlinks for your site? Having more quality backlinks, even if it is 1, will have more power and authority than getting a lower quality link.

Yeah, I hear ya, but I would still lean towards focusing on attaining the one good link over trying to boost the 10 decent links by performing tier 2 linking. Way too much work involved in trying to manipulate the authority of 10 other websites!

I completely agree but for the amount of really good quality links we can get it probably totals 1 a month were as we are receiving links of a decent nature at about 10 a week but a lot of these are short lived as they end up deeper as posts are added (or they are on deeper pages).

I would spend your time finding quality links instead of having to boost the source of your links!

Competitors ranking with multiple sub-domains with no backlinks
Hi Moz, We are currently doing SEO for a hand therapy company called the Hand Therapy Group. They rank well, however, one competitor, Sydney Hand Therapy, is ranking higher than them for the term "hand therapy Sydney" (which is one of our highly focused keywords) with three different URLs (their home page, contact page and about page) despite the latter two pages have no backlinks. I understand why Google might see their homepage as being more relevant because their name is Sydney Hand Therapy (even though the Hand Therapy Group have more backlinks) but why do the other two URLs rank so well? Any help/info/advice would be brilliant! Cheers!

Can you buy backlinks from fiverr?
Hi Mozers, I though a while ago I heard that buying backlinks was a no go, until I seen and read this article: I notice the guy that wrote the article suggested that you can buy backlinks from fiverr, and also just make sure they are do-follow backlinks. Can someone please correct me and perhaps clear my confusion over this. As far as I knew it was best to build backlinks by doing guest posting and engaging in relevant forums? Heres the article: http://socialmediafuze.com/10-backlink-strategies-business/ Thanks guys

New Domain VS New Page Backlink?
Assuming you've already got a link from:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Sam.at.Moz
sitea.com/page1 (Moz domain rank 55, Moz page rank 30) You have two choices for another link: 1. Another link on the same domain but a new page:
sitea.com/page2 (Moz domain rank 55, Moz page rank 30) 2. A link on a new domain but with a lesser domain & page rank
siteb.com/page1 (Moz domain rank 30, Moz page rank 20) Assuming you have no other links to your site - both sites are relevant to your industry, both 5 years old, both have the same number of visitors/external links/ads and the content and anchor text remains the same. Which will have a bigger impact on SERP movements? Sam0 -
Directory Quality for Citation Building
Hello All, Just started to work on a new clients site that has been hit with multiple google penalties. I was looking at their backlink profile and noticed they have numerous links from what seem to be very low quality directory websites. My question is, when building citations and looking for directories to submit to, what makes one directory more credible then another one? If most of them are just publishing links and business information, why does google consider one credible and the other spammy? Clearly with some it's easy to tell if they are credible or not, but with some it is not as easy. Should you only really be submitting to the best of the best or are some lower lever ones ok too? Have read a few things on this topic, but most is older and just want to hear what people have to say on this today. Thanks.

Link Building for "State" informational pages
I have a webpage for all 50 states for specific info relating to relocation and was wondering if there are any recommended links to work at getting for these pages. I would like to do "state" specific and possibly health related links for each page to help in the SEO rankings. I can see that if I just wanted to get 10 links on each page that is going to be 500 links I have to build and it is going to be very time consuming but I feel it is necessary. Thank you, Poo

% of the time you find email addresses - broken link building
Hello, What percentage of the time do you find an exact email address of the person to contact when doing broken link building? And what do you do if you can't find an email address? Always interested in more tools if I need them, my last post here brought out several good tools. Thank you.

Building a Large Local Services Directory - Subdomain Needed?
In 2012 we will be rolling out a directory of local services for our industry. This will ultimately be thousands of additional pages, with city/zip searching, individual provider pages etc. The main reason is for UX -- providing local resources for our industry to compliment the online experience (we're an online B2C retailer) My question is if there are pros/cons to putting this on a subdomain, or if having it on the root is ideal. I don't see a huge influx of backlinks (making a sub fine) but I suppose that could change down the road. I do see some indexing benefits for new terms like 'service x in los angeles' etc, but that would also be fine on a sub. It feels like it would be cleaner to keep separate and on a sub, but maybe we're missing something. We certainty don't want to hurt anything on our primary site which drives the business. Thoughts?
