Google Indexed my Site then De-indexed a Week After
-
Hi there,
I'm working on getting a large e-commerce website indexed and I am having a lot of trouble.
The site is www.consumerbase.com.We have about 130,000 pages and only 25,000 are getting indexed.
I use multiple sitemaps so I can tell which product pages are indexed, and we need our "Mailing List" pages the most - http://www.consumerbase.com/mailing-lists/cigar-smoking-enthusiasts-mailing-list.html
I submitted a sitemap a few weeks ago of a particular type of product page and about 40k/43k of the pages were indexed - GREAT! A week ago Google de-indexed almost all of those new pages. Check out this image, it kind of boggles my mind and makes me sad. http://screencast.com/t/GivYGYRrOV
While these pages were indexed, we immediately received a ton of traffic to them - making me think Google liked them.
I think our breadcrumbs, site structure, and "customers who viewed this product also viewed" links would make the site extremely crawl-able.
What gives?
Does it come down to our site not having enough Domain Authority?
My client really needs an answer about how we are going to get these pages indexed. -
Sorry, I only gave a brief look at your site, but my first impressions was that there was very little content, and many outgoing links.
When I try to rank keyword pages I have a minimum of 500 words within the content area, but mostly try to aim for 700 - 1000. Of course this is not always possible, but you have alot of duplicate pages, plus very little text on each of those pages. I have tried to rank local seo keywords with very similar content like that, and I find it takes alot longer to get indexed and might even bounce in and out of the serps for a while.
Gaining more authority will help, as will inserting more text as you can insert more keyword \ keywords variations without appearing spammy with the keyword density. I think ultimately without unique content you have to be prepared to wait a while for them to be all indexed, and even then there is no guarantee (although better site authority should help).
Also might be worth checking your sitemap structure. I believe there is a limit on what each sitemap can have, so you may need to split it up over several although I believe some plugins do this automatically.

Thanks for the response. Is there a particular number of words per page or tex-to-code ratio I should strive for?
-
Many of your pages are very similar with just changes in keywords \ headings. I appreciate with that many pages it will be hard to make them more unique but as a result it may take longer for them to index, if at all.
There is also not much text on each of the pages, so I wouldn't class the content as particularly good quality either (in terms of what google sees), which also may hinder the chances of getting indexed. Plus 2 weeks for a site like that is too soon to tell whether Google will index them. The initial indexing of alot of pages is quite usual.
Short of changing the pages, all I can suggest is build up your site's authority.

SEO on Jobs sites: how to deal with expired listings with "Google for Jobs" around
Dear community, When dealing with expired job offers on jobs sites from a SEO perspective, most practitioners recommend to implement 301 redirects to category pages in order to keep the positive ranking signals of incoming links. Is it necessary to rethink this recommendation with "Google for Jobs" is around? Google's recommendations on how to handle expired job postings does not include 301 redirects. "To remove a job posting that is no longer available: Remove the job posting from your sitemap. Do one of the following: Note: Do NOT just add a message to the page indicating that the job has expired without also doing one of the following actions to remove the job posting from your sitemap. Remove the JobPosting markup from the page. Remove the page entirely (so that requesting it returns a 404 status code). Add a noindex meta tag to the page." Will implementing 301 redirects the chances to appear in "Google for Jobs"? What do you think?

Google Search Console Site Property Questions
I have a few questions regarding Google Search Console. Google Search Console tells you to add all versions of your website https, http, www, and non-www. 1.) Do I than add ALL the information for ALL versions? Sitemaps, preferred site, etc.? 2.) If yes, when I add sitemaps to each version, do I add the sitemap url of the site version I'm on or my preferred version? - For instance when adding a sitemap to a non-www version of the site, do I use the non-www version of the sitemap? Or since I prefer a https://www.domain.com/sitemap.xml do I use it there? 3.) When adding my preferred site (www or non-www) do I use my preferred site on all site versions? (https, http, www, and non-www) Thanks in advance. Answers vary throughout Google!

Website Ranks and gets de indexed ??
Hi My website is almost 3-4 months old . Whats strange is that as soon as it get Crawled it ranks for few terms for 1-2 days and all of a sudden gets de Indexed for these same terms or Rank drops like drops from page 5 to page 10 . Nothing shows up in Webmater tools under Manual Action . Assuming its a Algorithmic penalty, How to deal with this kind of stuff. Should I stop working on this site all together ? Or assuming its a New website, google does not want it to rank for medium or high volume keywords ? What keywords I am after have 300 -2k searches per month .

Better to 301 or de-index 403 pages
Google WMT recently found and called out a large number of old unpublished pages as access denied errors. The pages are tagged "noindex, follow." These old pages are in Google's index. At this point, would it better to 301 all these pages or submit an index removal request or what? Thanks... Darcy

[wtf] Mysterious Homepage De-Indexing
Our homepage, as well as several similar landing pages, have vanished from the index. Could you guys review the below pages to make sure I'm not missing something really obvious?! URLs: http://www.grammarly.com http://www.grammarly.com/plagiarism-checker It's been four days, so it's not just a temporary fluctuation The pages don't have a "noindex" tag on them and aren't being excluded in our robots.txt There's no notification about a penalty in WMT Clues: WMT is returning an "HTTP 200 OK" for Fetch, is showing a redirect to grammarly.com/1 (alternate version of homepage, contains rel=canonical back to homepage) for Fetch+Render. Could this be causing a circular redirect? Some pages on our domain are ranking fine, e.g. https://www.google.com/search?q=grammarly+answers A month ago, we redesigned the pages in question. The new versions are pretty script-heavy, as you can see. We don't have a sitemap set up yet. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, friends!

Recently created site indexed; no backlinks showing?
I launched a website for a client in mid-March. The site is already indexed, I have built quite a few links to it (links are also indexed), and ranks well for some targeted keywords. However, when I try to check backlinks to the site with Open Site Explorer, it comes back with "No Data Available For This URL". Is this something I should be worried about or merely a case of 'recency' of page creation'? I know it says that it can take 45-60 days for a site to be included in Linkscape but I'm approaching the 60 days mark and still nothing.
