CDN image links passing SEO benefit?
-
We used a CDN to host all of the images on our site, and the paths are such:
http://cdn.onedirection.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/harry-styles-tongue5.jpgFrequently we get a lot of other websites using our images, which we're fine with, but I would like to know if we get any SEO value from these image links? Interestingly they do appear in the "Just Discovered" section of OSE.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hey Chris,
If your domain is onedirection.net and people are linking to your images on cdn.onedirection.net you are seeing some benefit, just not as much as if they were on onedirection.net root domain. If that's the case that's why they are coming up in your Just Discovered links.
If however cdn.onedirection.net is your CDN completely irrespective of your domain and your site is on another domain like justinbieber.com then nope you won't get any link equity from that.

no, I wold have thought they were outgoing links

Thanks for your reply Alan.
Do you have any idea why Moz would list them as incoming links in OSE?
-
I cant see any SEO benefit, if the images were on your own domain, then there might be.
this is my opinion, I believe there is a pagerank for images, at least that google keeps some sort of record of whos linking to what image. not only are these people not linking to your domain rather to the CDN domain, you are linking to the CDN domain also. I would rather host the images myself and not be linking out and have others linking to me.
I host at Microsoft Azure, if you host in the cloud there is no advantage to having a cdn as you already have good bandwidth.

PDFs and SEO
Hello Fellow Mozers! Just curious... can or does Google read PDFs linked on sites? I always assumed they would be "read" much like images are...that is, the bots can't "see" the image they just read the link and title tag. I am doing SEO for a site that has many PDF forms and it just occurred to me that I have no idea about the relationship between PDFs and SEO Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Will it help/hinder our local seo by including our local adress on multiple pages?
We have a large website that targets the whole UK. It has landing pages for every town in the UK. For the towns that this particular business has a bricks and mortar hq, we have set up a local/places page. We then added the corresponding places adress to the appropriate town page on the website. This is just a handful compared to the 3,000,000 towns our site aims to rank for. Question: Would it help or hinder our SEO efforts to add the local addresses to other town pages in close proximity to the original? For instance say we have a places address for croydon in London. Would it hurt to add this address to pages that target towns near croydon, such as Mitcham. All opinions greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Local SEO Issue: Google Places Listing on Page 8
Hello, I'm having an issue with a client's Google Places listing. It's showing on page 8 for one of the main keyword terms but their main site is on page 1. Having looked into competitors' places listings ranking above, I've ruled out the following; lack of citations inconsistent citations incomplete profile incorrect category listing details not matching places landing page incorrect location and any form of keyword stuffing Other places listings ranking above have fewer citations, incomplete profiles, details inconsistent with their main site, one is no longer trading as a business and one has no website! In the past, our client had had two listings simultaneously but we addressed this waaaay back. Is it possible we could still be getting punished? I'm at a bit of a loss otherwise. Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated. Thankyou!

Video hosting - SEO
Hi, We host all of our videos on You Tube and use embedded links to display on our site. When people search keywords related to our videos they are linking back to You Tube through SERPs. Is there a way link SERPs to websites instead of You Tube? Any advice would be appreciated. Sean

Local Seo Help!
Hi everyone, Google Places is going to be the death of me. I have asked a few questions on this topic before but nothing seems to work. Here are some of my problems/concerns: It keeps deleting my description!? Have you seen this before? The "more about this place" section has not been updated since I claimed the listing over 3 months ago. The website it lists at the top of that section is our old website address which no longer works. The site was through a site builder and the company will not forward the domain to the new site. Are there any companies or services that can help build a great profile and help increase my rankings? I am starting to think this is over my head. Do I delete the page and start over? Any advice? Please! I have been trying to gain some position in our local O-pack results and have used whitespark to hunt for citations and aquire as many as possible, but even after 4-5 months google has still not detected many of the citations we have added.
