Same website, seperate subfolders or separete websites? 12 stores in two cities
-
I have a situation where there are 12 stores in separate suburbs across two cities. Currently the chain store has one eCommerce website. So I could keep the one website with all the attendant link building benefits of one domain. I would keep a separate webpage for each store with address details to assist with some Local SEO.
But (1) each store has slightly different inventory and (2) I would like to garner the (Local) SEO benefits of being in a searchers suburb. So I'm wondering if I should go down the subfolder route with each store having its own eCommerce store and blog eg example.com/suburb? This is sort of what Apple does (albeit with countries) and is used as a best practice for international SEO (according to a moz seminar I watched awhile back).
Or I could go down the separate eCommerce website domain track? However I feel that is too much effort for not much extra return.
Any thoughts? Thanks, Bruce.

I've refined this to a new question here:
http://moz.com/community/q/should-each-physical-store-have-its-own-ecommerce-store-on-subfolders-or-share-a-single-national-one -
Thanks Linda. I missed that thread (ironic given we are in a SEO type community ).
The store is simple retail which sells products not services. Each store has a limited amount of inventory, so you don't want a customer going into one branch to pick up a product based off a head office ecommerce website as it might not be there.
I'm now thinking:
- one website with folders (General SEO)
- each folder has its own ecommerce website and location page (used for Local SEO) with different NAPS at the bottom
Would that be correct?

Thanks Patrick, very interesting response. Would you mind providing a link to the discussion web page?
Just to make sure I understand your answer:
1. you would have subfolders for each store
2. you would have a full e-commerce website on each subfolder for each "substore"? -
Hi Bruce, I just replied in another thread and said:
"Many local businesses and SEOs have a Google strategy of divide and conquer.
With Google Local a better strategy is "United We Stand!" (One site.)Miriam and I went on to give a lot of other advice that relates to your situation. Here is the link to the other discussion:
http://moz.com/community/q/a-branded-local-search-strategy-utilizing-microsites -
Bruce,
I posed this same question a few months back as I have clients with offices in different cities and a couple who are HQ'd in one city with sub-stores in other locations, but only have 1 website. My question was along the lines of "Do we create microsites to target each of the cities or build sub-folders?"
The overall opinions were: 1) Building sub-folders for each location/store is the most effective; 2) Microsites are still websites to be managed which can be a pain; 3) Google could get confused as to which of the brands stores is the Authority Domain if using microsites and could hurt the main website; 4) Build out more content through the website's blog (get a blog on the main website if not already) to target more local keywords for SEO; 5) Build out your inner-linking for the respective store's pages; and 6) Submit local citations to the inner pages to help build Page Authority from the root domain.
Hope this was helpful and stick with getting as much attention to the main domain to build its Authority and you will see the other sub-pages climb SERPs! We are applying the above mentioned strategies currently and love it!
Patrick

Someone redirected his website to ours
Hi all, I have strange issue as someone redirected website http://bukmachers.pl to ours https://legalnibukmacherzy.pl We don't know exactly what to do with it. I checked backlinks and the website had some links which now redirect to us. I also checked this website on wayback machine and back in 2017 this website had some low quality content but in 2018 they made similar redirection to current one but to different website (our competitor). Can such redirection be harmful for us? Should we do something with this or leave it, as google stop encouraging to disavow low quality links.

Google cache from my website give another website
Hello, Some time ago, I already asked a question here because my homepage disappeared from Google for our main keyword. One of the problems that we showing up was the Google cache. If you look to the cache of the website www.conseilfleursdebach.fr, you see that it show the content of www.lesfleursdebach.be. It's both our website, but one is focus on France and the other one on Belgium. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache%3Awww.conseilfleursdebach.fr&oq=cach&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0j69i60j0l2.1374j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Before, there were flags on the page to go to the other country, but in the meantime I removed all links from the .fr to the .be and opposite. This is ongoing since January. Who has an idea of what can cause this and most of all, what do do? Kind regards, Tine

How to target slight variations in ecommerce store
Hi friends, I'm trying to target a variety of keywords for an e-commerce/woocommerce store. These keywords have slight differences, and I have a writer to come up with a paragraph or two of unique content for each SEO landing page. I plan on making them with WordPress pages, and linking them with in the content to other related blog posts and product categories. Would it be best to make individual landing pages for terms that vary like: mens wallets under $100 mens wallets under $50 mens wallets under $25 mens leather wallets qaulity mens wallets affordable mens wallets buy mens wallets online shop mens wallets online Should these each be individual pages? How should I link these to the main navigation? or Should I interlink them elsewhere?

Client wants a seperate .tv domain for their media/videos instead of a subdomain/subfolder. What is the best way to pass of link equity to a new domain?
We have a client that wants to place their video content on a .tv tld instead of a subfolder/subdomain in their .com website. They believe that the .tv domain will better represent the media experience of their business. We can understand this client's position however we are concerned about their .tv domain will lose out on the link equity if it were no longer placed in the .com's subdomain/subfolder. Here are our questions: 1. What would be the best way to pass of link equity from .com website to a new .tv domain? Should we just have a video link on the .com website that 301 directs to the new .tv domain? 2. Is there any SEO benefit of having a .tv domain for Google Video queries or even Youtube? 3. Is there any long term value of having two different websites? For link equity purposes we understand that it would be better if everything was in a .com. However is a .tv domain ideal for a better representation of their media content? We appreciate any feedback.

Effects of having both http and https on my website
You are able to view our website as either http and https on all pages. For example: You can type "http://mywebsite.com/index.html" and the site will remain as http: as you navigate the site. You can also type "https://mywebsite.com/index.html" and the site will remain as https: as you navigate the site. My question is....if you can view the entire site using either http or https, is this being seen as duplicate content/pages? Does the same hold true with "www.mywebsite.com" and "mywebsite.com"? Thanks!

Duplicate content, website authority and affiliates
We've got a dilemma at the moment with the content we supply to an affiliate. We currently supply the affiliate with our product database which includes everything about a product including the price, title, description and images. The affiliate then lists the products on their website and provides a Commission Junction link back to our ecommerce store which tracks any purchases with the affiliate getting a commission based on any sales via a cookie. This has been very successful for us in terms of sales but we've noticed a significant dip over the past year in ranking whilst the affiliate has achieved a peak...all eyes are pointing towards the Panda update. Whenever I type one of our 'uniquely written' product descriptions into Google, the affiliate website appears higher than ours suggesting Google has ranked them the authority. My question is, without writing unique content for the affiliate and changing the commission junction link. What would be the best option to be recognised as the authority of the content which we wrote in the first place? It always appears on our website first but Google seems to position the affiliate higher than us in the SERPS after a few weeks. The commission junction link is written like this: http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-1428744-10475505?sid=shopp&url=http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/vango-calisto-600xl-tent.html
