Hi Guys!
Is there an easy way of finding out which key words my site is currently ranking for? And how wwell these keywords are doing in the search engines?
Thank you for the help

Thanks very much Paul.. Very helpful!

Fantastic. Thanks Peter

+1 to GWT. You may also want to check your server logs. I recommend using keyword spy as another general place to get that information. http://www.keywordspy.com

Hi Mike, I do not use SEM Rush but I do use moz.com, we must tune up the kw ranking because it will propose you a set of keywords but maybe not all of them or not exactly the ones you are looking for.
Actually if you just want to check your own site. Try the free version for cuterank
Basic but works and it is for free. There you will have to put the keywords and the search engine you want to check and it will povide you some useful info.
Hope you profit on this

SEM RUSH doesn't require you to ask about what keywords you want to check on. You can just put in a URL and it will tell you what that domain currently ranks for as well as all of the paid media information you would need to get a full picture. Yes you should always have a webmaster account setup. NO tool does ask for the word.

Actually, by far the best place to start in order to answer this question is with a Google Webmaster Tools account for your website. It's a free tool and is just as critical for running a website as Google Analytics is.
Once you have your Webmaster Tools set up, there is a section in it that will show you the keywords your site currently ranks for, and what their average ranking position is. The reason this average ranking position is so useful is that it takes into account all the search personalisation that your visitors experience. Also, this tool will tell you what keywords are already driving traffic, not just the ones you might know to ask about, as would be required with Moz or SEMRush rank-tracking tools. (And it doesn't suffer from the (not provided) issue which obscures quite a bit of the keyword info in Google Analytics.)
Does that get you started?
Paul
P.S. You can get the same info for Bing through their Bing Webmaster Tools. You should have both these Tools accounts set up right away anyway, as they are the only way the search engines can inform you if they detect problems with your site, or have imposed a manual penalty.

You could try to use tools like SEM Rush and or get a Moz pro account as these will be able to show your current ranking statuses. Also run your competitors websites and see what they are ranking for as well as what they are targeting in Paid media.

Hi, I have given some thoughts about keyword research and where ranking should sit alongside a focus on good content in my answer to your other question.
If you have a Moz Pro account then you have access to the Rank Tracker tool which I would say is the best way to see which keywords you are ranking for - provided you know of course what keywords your site is optimised for.
However, if you don't then assuming you have installed Google Analytics on your site or some other website analytics tool, I would suggest digging into that data. Unfortunately, Google has recently removed access to what searches are resulting in clicks through to your website. Now all you will see is "(not provided") in your analytics. But if you get a decent amount of searches coming from Bing and Yahoo, that data will give you some idea.
I hope that helps.
Peter

I'm finding it difficult to make a decision on keywords to select to target for new site?
Hi, I'm doing keyword research for a small site and followed the standard keyword process of using Ahrefs and Google's keyword planner tools to see what keywords are being searched for my service. There are keywords that have a higher avg monthly search volume but they are aren't as relevant as ones that include the word cheap or affordable for example but those ones are only 300 monthly searches per month which seems very small for the main page of the site. Any advice what I should do in this scenario? Do I choose a more relevant keyword with lower search volume or go for one with much higher avg monthly search volume which is much more competitive?

Ranking a homepage for keywords
We recently found a handful of keywords we would like our homepage to rank for (for example - customer experience). On our homepage we have articles (4-5 posted daily) that feature the keywords we are targeting (one being customer experience). How do the keywords we are using in our daily articles that are posted to the homepage affect the overall keyword ranking for the homepage? In other words do the keywords used in the articles (title, first 2-3 paragraphs, meta description, etc.) all roll up/build up to the homepage's keywords or how does that work?

How to Choose the Best Keywords for a Website
I am working with an insurance agency that wants to target the below types of insurance in Dalton GA, Ringold GA, Chattanooga TN and and/or Georgia. Home Insurance
Keyword Research | | lagunaitech
Auto Insurance
Health Insurance
Life Insurance
Restaurant Insurance
Contractor Insurance They are a new agency that doesn't have a website yet and only a small online marketing budget. Right now, I'm starting to work with them on their new site and want to make sure the on-site SEO works with the insurance/locations they want to target. What I'm having trouble with is the volume of monthly searches and trying to find keywords that they could realistically get some traffic and leads from. Most of the keywords I check with the Adwords tool are less than 50 exact match searches or just show a dash. The only keywords with a decent amount of exact searches are the main insurance types like "restaurant insurance" or "home insurance Georgia". How can I get an idea of the number of leads and amount of traffic this site might get when most of the keywords searched for only a handful of times per month? I can build the site to easily target all the above types of insurance in Dalton, GA, which has a population of about 33,000, but I don't know what kind of results this agency might expect if they were to rank in the top 3 spots. Thanks in advance for any ideas or advice!0 -
Google Keyword Tool - Competition - How does it compare to SEOMoz Keyword Difficulty?
Hi, Many times, when I look up a keyword in google using their Keyword Tool, the competition might be low or medium, but, it doesn't seem close to the keyword difficulty on SEOMoz. For example, I looked up fantasy sports. It's low competition on Google. I thought, wow, that's amazing. How can that be when it's so popular? Huge search volume, low competition. Then, SEOMoz says 76% difficulty. It sort of shatters my enthusiasm all of a sudden. Maybe I have to change the order of how I look at it 🙂 What is the difference that's going on? What would be considered low keyword difficulty on SEOMoz? How about medium and high? I know someone might argue that for some guru, what's hard for one person isn't hard for the guru, but, for the average webmaster who does some seo, uses SEOMoz, and some other SEO tools, is there some general breakdown? Thanks.

To Meta Keyword or Not To Meta Keyword, That Is The Question
I can't seem to get a reliable answer on this one. It seems to be split down the middle as far as who agrees and who doesn't, of course some of that content is outdated. So, for today, should I be using the meta keywords tag or not? Thanks, Steven

How do you optimize for compound keywords
What is the best way to handle keywords like "switchplate covers"? The key word may be seen as either a 2 or 3 word phrase, depending how you handle the compound term: "switch plate" or "switchplate" In google KW it shows different results for switch plate vs switchplate as well as using cover vs covers. I've tried using all the variations in my descriptions, titles and H2s but I think this is diluting them all. Can anyone show me best practice guidelenes or examples of good solutions to these kinds of compound key words? Thanks Handcrafter
