Bad performance for low competition term (Take two)
-
Hi all! I asked the question below a little while back and got some great responses. Most said that the link profile needed A LOT of work.
This got me thinking. As it is quite a low competition term, and I have control over a few of its inbound links, would it be easier to move to a new domain and start again? That is, no 301, just move the site and update it in WMT?
Hi everybody. I've been working on this page for some time, http://www.double-glazing-forum.com/anglian-windows.aspx. Until several months ago, it ranked really well for the terms 'Anglian windows' and 'Anglian windows reviews'. However, following a Google update it tanked and has got worse ever since. Here's what I've done to try and fix it.
Added 800 words of unique copy
Added YouTube videos
Replaced scraped press releases with unique descriptions that link to the source
Analysed the backlink profile and uploaded a disavow file containing all bad links
Contacted webmaster to remove them where possible
Getting a bit low on ideas now, so any help would be great!

Hi There
I believe I recall chiming in on the original question. I would definitely still bring up that I'm not sure this page really targets "reviews" as I don't really see reviews very explicitly anywhere on the page? Definitely need to have a good keyword -> content match to rank.
Echoing Peter's good remarks, I have heard John Muller from Google in his hangouts state many times that they do not want to rank pages that pull content from other sources without offering much unique on top of that. This is part of the Panda algo and to get back ahead, the content needs to be unique and add value on top of other places you can find the same or very similar content on the web.

Hi, it's an option to scrap and start again although bear in mind that the current domain is four years old and a new domain will lose that and any authority it has accrued.
That said, maybe the real issue is that your page has suffered in terms of its ranking because of Google's own shake up to the pages it ranks for "Anglian Windows" and "Anglian Windows reviews" and its objective to provide pages that offer relevant and unique content in its search results.
Looking at the page with an embedded YouTube video and lots of content scraped from other sites, does that genuinely fit the intent of someone searching for reviews about Anglian Windows. IMHO I am not sure it does and with the recent Hummingbird update to Google's algorithm, providing unique relevant content is even more important.
I hope that helps,
Peter

How ot optimise a website for competitive keywords?
Hi guys, I hope to find some good answers to my questions, because here are some of the best SEO's in the world. I'm doing SEO as a hobby for a few years and had some very good results before the latest Google updates. Now I'm not able to rank any website for competitive keywords. The last project I started is this website (man and van hire company targeting London market).

The problem is that I can't rank even in Top 100 in Google UK for the main keywords like: "man and van london" , "man and van service london" ,"london man & van"...
The site has over 1k good backlinks (according to Ahrefs), unique content, titles and descriptions but still can't rank well. Am i missing something? Few years back that was more than enough to rank well in Google.
I will be very grateful to hear your suggestions and opinions.0 -
We have two different websites with the same products and information, will that hurt our rankings?
We have two different domains, one for the UK and the other for the US, they have the exact same products, categories and information. (the information is almost the same in 400 products) We know that Google could recognize that as duplicate content, but will that actually hurt our rankings in both sites? Is it better if we create two completely different versions of the content on those pages?

Can I use the same set of social media accounts on two sites?
I have a client who's company name / main site name is not his name. All his social accounts connected to his site are in his name. The site is verified with Google Places, etc. Now he asked for me to create a site for him in his own name with some similar info and a lot of new info. The million dollar question is do I use the same social media accounts on the new site? Facebook, twitter, youtube, etc? Will that hurt the organic rankings of the main site? I've seen this similar situation before. You may have someone who works at a large corporation who is mentioned on the main site has their own personal profile site just about them. Where they can go more in depth about things they are doing. If the other set of social account where in the company name it would be a no brainer to create new social accounts in his name. The issue is the main companies social accounts are already in his name.

Proving Bad Intent
Okay, so based on common sense re: author name and generic comment... ...I'm pretty sure this blog comment awaiting approval is aimed at getting users to a phony site in hopes they will make a donation to a fraudster impersonating Johns Hopkins. But if you check out the URL, you'll see they are not idiots. It's an .edu address with a high DA. Two questions: Are my suspicions well founded? How would I go about proving this, in a less clear cut case? Author : how to grow weed (IP: 173.208.91.231 , 173-208-91-231.ipvnow.com)

Two links from one page with different Anchor text
Example Business Name - UberPuter UberPuter targets the keywords "Computer Repairs" right from their home page. UberPuter has the option to place links on 150 of their customers pages that are happy with the service. Would it be best to place two anchor text links one with the brand name and one with the keyword anchor text in "computer repairs" pointing both at the home page or should UberPuter only place one link back to the home page for the Keyword Anchor text? To the best of my knowledge G only counts the first link on a page as a "Vote" so my thought is to only include the single link with the keyword anchor text. Thanks,
