Duplicate meta data for 301 redirected items
-
Google webmaster tools tells me that I have duplicate title tags for two items. They have the same product ID. When there is a change in SEO URL, the system does an automatic 301 redirect of the first item towards the second item, like in the example below:
22"x28" White Foam Board School Project Kit|Geographics.com
/p48998/foam-board-school-project-kit-22-x-28/product_info.html /p48998/white-foam-board-school-project-kit/product_info.htmlWhat are we doing wrong that Google asks for different meta data for a 301 redirect?
Thanks!

I get exactly the same reports from Webmaster tools when I rename products on my website. The crawler just needs to catch up and so long as your redirect is set up properly (it also looks fine to me) then this will drop out in time as Michael says.

One thing you could do to avoid the duplicate content penalty is to change the rel canonical tag on the first item to point to the second one.
For example,
change the rel canonical tag on this page (if it still exists): http://www.geographics.com/p48998/foam-board-school-project-kit-22-x-28/product_info.htmlto this:
... then Google won't consider this a duplicate page.
Hope this helps?

What you're doing looks fine to me. The old URL should drop out of Webmaster Tools after a while. How long has it been since GWT reported this?

Combining products - edit existing product page or 301 redirect to new page?
We want to combine existing products - e.g. 'hand lotion' and 'body lotion' will become 'hand & body lotion'. As such, we'll need to combine the two product pages into one. What would be the best route to take in terms of SEO to do this? My initial reaction is to create a new product page and then 301 or 302 redirect the old products to the new product page depending on if the change is permanent or temporary. Would you agree? Or am I missing something?

Redirect issue
http://www.themorrisagency.co.uk/wedding-band redirects to http://www.themorrisagency.co.uk/wedding-band-cost-much-hire/ NO canonical in place. Nothing in Htaccess. I cant think where else to look to find it. If I amend it to http://www.themorrisagency.co.uk/we it still redirects. Any ideas? I have spent way too long on it now

Pages with near duplicate content
Hi Mozzers, I need your opinion on the following. Imagine that we have a product X (brand Sony for example), so if we sell parts for different models of items of this product X, we then have numerous product pages with model number. Sony camera parts for Sony Camera XYZ parts for Sony Camera XY etc. So the thing is that these pages are very very similar, like 90% duplicate and they do duplicate pages for Panasonic, Canon let's say with small tweaks in content. I know that those are duplicates and I would experiment removing a category for one brand only (least seached for), but at the same time I cannot remove for the rest as they convert a lot, being close to the search query of the customer (customer looks for parts for Sony XYZ, lands on the page and buys, insteading of staying on a page for Sony parts where should additionally browse for model number). What would you advise to make as unique as possible these pages, I am thinking about: change page titles. meta descriptions tweak the content as much as I can (very difficult, there is nothing fancy or different in those :(() i will start with top top pages that really drive traffic first and see how it goes. I will remove least visited pages and prominently put the model number in Sony parts page to see how it goes in terms of organic and most importantly conversions Any other ideas? I am really concerned about dupes and a penalty, but I try to think of solutions in order not to kill conversions at this point. Have a lovely Monday

Duplicate content list by SEOMOZ
Hi Friends, I am seeing lot of duplicate (about 10%) from the crawl report of SEOMOZ. The report says, "Duplicate Page Content" But the urls it listed have different title, different url and also different content. I am not sure how to fix this issue.. My site has both Indian cinema news and photo gallery. The problme mainly coming in photo gallery posts. for example: this is the main url of a post. apgossips.com/2012/12/18/telugu-actress-poonam-kaur-photos . The problem is coming with each individual image with in this post. examples of SEOMOZ report 3 individual urls as duplicate content...from the same above post.: http://apgossips.com/2012/12/18/telugu-actress-poonam-kaur-photos/poonam-kaur-hot-photo-shoot-stills-4 http://apgossips.com/2012/12/18/telugu-actress-poonam-kaur-photos/poonam-kaur-hot-photo-shoot-stills-3 http://apgossips.com/2012/12/18/telugu-actress-poonam-kaur-photos/poonam-kaur-hot-photo-shoot-stills-2 Some body please advise me..
