International SEO
-
Hi all,
The company that I work for is planning to target some french (and some other foreign) keywords. The thing is, in our industry, you can't just hire someone to translate the content/pages. The pages have to be translated by an accredited translator.
Here's the thing, it costs a LOT of money just to translate a few thousand words. So, the CEO decided to translate a few of our 'core' pages and SEO them to see if it brings results.
My questions are, would it be possible from a technical point of view to simply translate a few pages? Would that cause a problem for the search engine crawlers? Would those pages be 'seen' as duplicates?
Thanks in advance guys!

Translated pages never are considered duplicates by Google.
I suppose that you're going to experiment with multilingual, not multi-country targeting.
In this case you can create the "foreign languages" versions of your site under their respective subfolders (/fr/ for France, for instance).
There, you will replicate the English site, with the exception that you will have also translated pages.
Be aware: the "home page", the menu and all the template should be localized too.
In the case of the not-translated pages, you can decide to canonicalize them to the original version, but implementing the rel="alternate" hreflang="x" so to suggest Google that it's that URL that you want to show to users using a given language in their search and browser.
100% duplicated content - and a situation like this one - is the only moment using a not self-referential rel="canonical" URL and the hreflang at the same time is justified (and doesn't cause problems).

Did you read what Google says about that issue?
Duplicate content and international sites
Websites that provide content for different regions and in different languages sometimes create content that is the same or similar but available on different URLs. This is generally not a problem as long as the content is for different users in different countries. While we strongly recommend that you provide unique content for each different group of users, we understand that this may not always be possible. There is generally no need to "hide" the duplicates by disallowing crawling in a robots.txt file or by using a "noindex" robots meta tag. However, if you're providing the same content to the same users on different URLs (for instance, if both
example.de/
andexample.com/de/
show German language content for users in Germany), you should pick a preferred version and redirect (or use therel=canonical link element) appropriately. In addition, you should follow the guidelines onrel-alternate-hreflang to make sure that the correct language or regional URL is served to searchers.

Internal links to landing pages
Hi, we are in the process of building a new website and we have 12 different locations and for theses 12 locations we have landing pages with unique copy on the following: 1. Marketing...2 SEO....3. PPC....4. Web Design Therefor there are 48 landing pages. The marketing pages are the most important ones to us in terms of traffic and priority. My question is: 1. Should we put a dropdown of the are pages in the main header under locations that link to the area marketing pages? 2. What is the best way to link all the sub pages such as London Web Design? Should these links just be coming off the London marketing page? or should we have a sitemap in the footer that lists every page? Thanks

Which One Would You Suggest Me in Terms of Internalization?
Hi Friends, This is my website http://goo.gl/fYndv. As of now, we have only one domain and we have contents in both English & Arabic. Arabic is translated content from English. So, we use alternate tags to indicate Google about that. We mostly receive traffic from Saudi Arabia because we are based out there. Now, we are planning to target major countries like India, Australia & So on. We know like creating sub-folders over sub-domains would be good like example.com/in/ over in.exmaple.com. But we are not going to change any contents only currency gets changed in those geo-graphic sub-domains or sub-folders. I just want to know, since I am not going to change the contents will it be good if I go with sub-folder like example.com/in. Is there any chance for Google penalization?

Webmaster Tools Internal Links
Hi all, I have around 400 links in the navigation menu (site-wide) and when I use webmaster tools to check for internal links to each page; some have as many as 250K and some as little as 200. Shouldn't the number of internal links for pages found in the navigation menu be relatively the same? Or is Google registering more internal links for pages linked closer to the top of the code Thanks!

Frames and SEO
In the old days frames were a problem because they could end up being orphaned pages that get indexed and appear in the SERPS but had to navigation so they were useless. Are frames still a problem with Google and if so what are the suggested solutions?

Mobile SEO vs. normal SEO?
Hi everyone, I wanted to ask you abour your opinon on mobile SEO. Do we already have two different Indices, one for mobile, one for desktop? Except a few mobile listings I don't see a difference yet. If yes, do I need to do special mobile SEO for my site or is it enough to have e.g. a responsive webdesign which detects the device and shows a different page? Are there any other extra Mobile SEO measures that should be considered? I know of the Mobile Sitemap and directories but is there anything else? Best regards
