Did .org vs. .com SEO importance recently changed?
-
I have seen previous answers in the Forum about this subject but Google has seemed to have again changed the playing surface. Within the past 30 days, we have seen a huge spike in organic search returns seeming to favor .org as domain authorities.
Has anyone else noticed this shift and is it just coincidence or worth factoring in?
If it is a shift, will Google punish those that have .org but have used.com previously for switching the redirects to serve .org first?
Thanks, Jim

I've seen no evidence of a boost in .org or any other TLD vs another lately. We have a couple thousand clients to compare and while new sites seem to be doing better than old but .org doesn't seem to be ahead of .com in any meaningful way.
I would definitely not change just for a .org but if it makes more sense, brand the correct way for your business.

Google treats the 3 main TLDs (.com, .org, .net) equally in terms of rankings. As long as you are using any of those, you should be fine (gTLDs like .co.uk can impact your search results, as well as spammy TLDs like .info).
You should not use redirects to switch from a .com domain to .org as 301 redirects result in a small PageRank loss.

Local Listings vs. Spreading Too Thin
Hello SEO Community, I'm trying to find the right balance between adapting to Googles move towards local listings and not spreading out my site too thin. We provide our services nationally and currently have local city listings (i.e. http://www.cleanedison.com/courses/city/IL-Chicago) but these do not show up in the SERPs for individual products + city (i.e. Building Analyst Chicago) So I could make individual pages for each product in each city, but that would exponentially increase the number of URLs on the site and probably inundate me with duplicate content. Is there a better way I could take advantage of local listings without creating all the duplicate content and other problems that would arise with individual URLs? Thanks

Has there been a Google change in the last 24 hours?
We have come in this morning to find our site (paydayuk.co.uk) has suddenly disappeared from their SERPs, we have consistently been ranking in the top 5 for a wide range of search terms but now do not even appear for our brand name of Payday UK where we have been first for many months. Our site is still indexed and we have made no changes for a while as any SEO work is waiting on completion of a CMS system. Looking in https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!categories/webmasters/crawling-indexing--ranking and there seem to be a lot of people having the same issues but as of yet no answers. I'd also like to add we don’t use black hat techniques so we really don’t understand why we have been penalised. Can anyone help please?
