Help Understanding GWT Message
-
Brief background: A few months ago, our firm exchanged blog posts with another law firm in Pennsylvania with followed links. Though we did exchange links, the posts weren't spammy. They wrote "A Floridian's Guide To A Car Accident In Pennyslvania" and we wrote one for Pennsylvanians in Florida. (The reason for this is that Personal Injury law varies drastically from state-to-state, and Florida has a ton of people who move back and forth).
My question: His firm got a message from google saying our link to him violated googles' guidelines. I went and removed the link, BUT I didn't get any message saying his link to our site was a violation. Shouldn't we both have gotten messages? Perhaps, mine is "in the mail" so to speak, but I would think both would go out at the same time, so I'm wondering if there is another possible reason?
Thanks,
Ruben

Yes, I got it from Majestic SEO. View page source then ctrl+f and type in 'daisy'. A lot of the domains with a lot of exact match anchors - hidden behind giant images.
The registrant of the site probably has no idea this all happened.

I'm searching for that anchor text with a site:sexualproblems.net, and once the site comes up (it takes a while), I'm not seeing that anchor text on the site itself, though Google did see it at one point. I wonder if their site got hacked?
Travis, it'd be great if you told us which tool you used. Thanks!
-
Travis,
Can you show me how your seeing we got this information, so I can figure out what to do with it? I just ran our site through OSE, and I'm not seeing that. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right spot.
Thanks,
Ruben

We never posted on sexualproblems.com. Well, at least I didn't, but thanks for pointing that out. I'll definitely look into.

Your site appears to have received a little less than 70K links from sexualproblems.net in the last 90 days. The anchor text is "daisy fondant cutters". It looks like the result of a post on sexualproblems.com. I could go on, but it looks like the guest posting strategy isn't working out.

Hi Ruben,
Since these are "manual" messages, a Google employee had to personally review the account and decide to send the message. It is likely something about the site flagged Google, prompting them to manually review the site. We don't really have a way of knowing if what they address in the message is what flagged that site, but it is likely.
If Google thinks what this site did violated the guidelines, that means any site, including your own, that is in violation of that guideline has the potential to receive the same message.
It is likely that yours is "in the mail." You could receive it a week from now or ten months from now.
I would recommend cleaning up or "no following" the link. You might consider waiting until the other site has submitted their reconsideration request to find out if your actions to remove the link were acceptable.

Helping finding a link
Hi So Ive done a crawl of the site using screaming frog. There are a few old category and sub category pages which don't exist any more but somehow the crawler is finding them. An example is below: http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Home-Appliances/cat/Health-&-Beauty/subcat/Male-Grooming Just wondering if anybody had any ideas about how I could go and find these urls and remove them off the site. Any ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks Andy

404s still showing in GWT
Hi, My client recently undertook a site migration. Since the new site's gone live GWT has highlighted over 2000 not found errors. These were fixed nearly 2 weeks ago and they're still being listed in GWT. Do I have to wait for Google to re-crawl the page before they're removed from the list? Or do I need to go through the list, individually check them and mark them as fixed? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

What steps can you take to help a site that does not change
Hi, i am working on a product and services website www.clairehegarty.co.uk but the problem i have is, the site does not really change. The home page stays the same and the only time it changes is when a new course is advertised. The most important page on the website is http://www.clairehegarty.co.uk/virtual-gastric-band-with-hypnotherapy but we have seen the site drop in rankings because the page is not being updated. This page has all the information you could want on weight loss but we have seen the page drop from number one in google to number four. I would like to know what steps we should take to increase our rankings in google and would be grateful for your suggestions. If i put in articles on the site, had a section where we put a new article every week, would this then get google to visit the whole site more and move our pages back up the rankings, or should we be looking at doing other things.

RegEx help needed for robots.txt potential conflict
I've created a robots.txt file for a new Magento install and used an existing site-map that was on the Magento help forums but the trouble is I can't decipher something. It seems that I am allowing and disallowing access to the same expression for pagination. My robots.txt file (and a lot of other Magento site-maps it seems) includes both: Allow: /*?p= and Disallow: /?p=& I've searched for help on RegEx and I can't see what "&" does but it seems to me that I'm allowing crawler access to all pagination URLs, but then possibly disallowing access to all pagination URLs that include anything other than just the page number? I've looked at several resources and there is practically no reference to what "&" does... Can anyone shed any light on this, to ensure I am allowing suitable access to a shop? Thanks in advance for any assistance

New to rich snippets, help needed
Hi, I have an online store selling mens business attire in Australia. I have had my developers add the required code to allow rich snippets. You can see the result here http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?url=http%3A%2F%2Fjsshirts.com.au%2Fmens-business-shirts%2Fclassic-fit%2Fsky-blue-poplin-classic-fit-shirt.html&view=cse I have few questions 1.How can I change the product description? Is it possible to use the product Meta Tag as the description? 2.Under the stars and the review count is this text. The excerpt from the page will show up here. The reason we can't show text from your webpage is because the text depends on the query the user types. Should whateever product description I have used show up here? 3.Is there anything else I need to do to get SERP's to show the snippet? Many thanks for any answers, Jason

Does server location (IP) help with international SEO?
If I have a .com.br domain with all my content in Portuguese, will it make a difference if I host in the US or if I host on a server in Brazil? I thought I had the answer to this from Rand in one of his Whiteboard Fridays a while back where he said hosting in the target country would help, but the lady who did the international SEO presentation in MozCon 2011 said any SEO who says this helps doesn't know international SEO. Can anybody point me to a case study on this? I have US and Brazilian dedicated servers but I'd prefer to get rid of the Brazil server expense.

Help with Rel Canonical on Wordpress?
Crawl Diagnostics is showing a lot of Rel Canonical warnings, I've installed Wordpress SEO by Joose De Valk and Home Canonical URL plugins without success. Any ideas? I'm getting a lot of URL's that I thought I blocked from being indexed, such as author pages, category pages, etc. I'm also getting stuff like "recessionitis.com/?homeq=recent" and "recessionitis.com/page/2/", those pages are similar to my homepage. I thought those plugins were suppose to automatically clean things up.. anyone use these plugins that have any helpful hints?
