Some of you might have seen that I recently discovered that another was mirroring my website(petmedicalcenter.com). Found out that this domain (justinchina.co.uk) was previously hosted on Host Monster and when we upgraded to a dedicated IP this last year we got that same IP address. Unfortunately, the justinchina.co.uk domain from GoDaddy is still pointing to our server/IP. Thus the mirrored site.
This has been a huge headache and a loss in rankings has made this even more frustrating. Instead of giving me a new IP address, Host Monster said to just add this to my htaccesss file:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} justinchina.co.uk
RewriteRule .* - [F]I waited 24 hours, submitted two support tickets, and talked to 4 tech support people and this is the solution I receive when they should have given me a new IP. I think it is time to switch. Any good host recommendations?

Thanks Paul!
Why do you think there was more than just a shared IP?

Ahh, good. that explains the weirdness I was seeing.
You'll be happy with SiteGround - good choice. If you happen to run into any issues, lemme know. I "know a guy" there
Paul
P.S. There was more than just a shared IP address issue on the old host. Another domain shouldn't be able to resolve as your site just by pointing at your IP address. Anyway, moot point now.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for responding to my thread. Yes, I did start transferring my website to a new host yesterday. I decided to go with SiteGround who have really awesome so far.

Have you started to move to a new host already, BCB1121? Because i'm seeing some very strange DNS configuration and behaviour, but if you're in the middle of a move, I won't' bother getting into them.
Can you let me know where you're at with this question?

Heart Internet or Fasthosts are both great with amazing tech support. I have servers with both of them.

What are your traffic demands like? I use Bluehost for most of my non-essential hosting, and MediaTemple for the sites with higher bandwidth requirements. Have been using both for years and they provide great service.

I use GreenGeeks.com for both my sites. Very happy with them. I can call anytime and talk to a person who will answer my questions or fix my problems. No run-arounds, no extra charges.

Establishing our web pages as the original source
I'm currently working on a recrutiment website. One of the things we do to drive traffic to the site is post our job listings out to a number of job boards eg. Indeed. These sites replicate our own job listings which means that for every job there are at least 5-10 exact duplicates on the web. By nature the job boards have good domain authority so they always rank above us but I would still expect to see more in the way of long-tail traffic. Is it necessary for me to claim our own job listings as the original source and if so, how do I go about doing it? Thanks

All other things equal, do server rendered websites rank higher than JavaScript web apps that follow the AJAX Crawling Spec?
I instinctively feel like server rendered websites should rank higher since Google doesn't truly know that the content its getting from an AJAX site is what the user is seeing and Google isn't exactly sure of the page load time (and thus user experience). I can't find any evidence that would prove this, however. A website like Monocle.io uses pushstate, loads fast, has good page titles, etc., but it is a JavaScript single page application. Does it make any difference?

How to best keep client hosting separate but manageable?
For those of you with a number of client accounts for which you do hosting, how do you keep them manageable but separate? Let's assume you have both public and private clients and don't want someone to do a reverse IP/server lookup and be able to identify everyone you work with. Additionally clients can be working in the US/UK/EU and want localised hosting. I'm looking for a large shared hosting provider (with some potentially dedicated options) who will let me manage accounts on multiple physical servers in a variety of geolocations from a single billing account and preferably a single admin panel as well. Once client contracts end I also need the ability to let them take over the hosting in a break-away account and to be able to add their own billing details. I'm looking for a solution a bit more upmarket than something like SEOhosting from Hostgator (which doesn't allow me to specify geolocation territories anyway), potentially with an account manager to help me sort out the individual requirements. Does anybody have any ideas of providers or what I should be searching for to get what I want?

Does Switching Web Hosts Hurt SEO?
A few months ago, my site was shut down by BlueHost because of performance issues, so I moved it to WP Engine, and cleaned up most of the plug-ins. Since then, my search engine traffic has decreased over 50%. Does switching web hosts hurt SEO? Thanks!

Removing an Old Address Company Moved
Hi there we have a new client who moved their offices. They have created many new listings but they still have some old listings out there that need to be deleted with the old address. And also update some old listings with the new address. Question, what would be the approach for this? Use a third party like Yext? Is there something cheaper than $400 per client? Or do it myself? I already started running into issues, the Yahoo wouldn't let me claim it, I can foresee some issues. For example I am sure Citygrid will do what they have done to other client.Trying to upsale my client instead of just changing their address when they call to verify. PS How many hours would you allot for a project like this? Thanks for the input.

Any recommendations for small businesses
I'm currently helping a bunch of small business owners with using internet marketing SEO etc. A couple of them are just starting out and cant afford to pay for someone to build the site for them etc. If someone wants to use one of these Free / cheap websites (live vistaprint, 123 reg, Moonfruit, etc), which one would you recommend? Are any any better and giving the foundations to build some decent rankings on?I Do the ones where you drag and drop to build the site normally create a flash site? Has anyone done a study on which ones work best? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Ant

For Google + purposes, should the author's name appear in the Meta description or title tag of my web site just as you would your key search phrase?
Relative to Cyrus Shepard's article on January 4th regarding Google's Superior SEO strategy, if I'm the primary author of all blog articles and web site content, and I have a link showing authorship going back to Google Plus, is a site wide link from the home page enough or should that show up on all blog posts etc and editorial comment pages etc? Conversely, should the author's name appear in the Meta description or title tag of my web site just as you would your key search phrase since Google appears to be trying to make a solid connection with my name, and all content?

Can anyone recommend a good UK service provider for Dedicated Servers?
Hi, we have just had a shocking experience moving from shared hosting to a dedicated server with a very large service provider. Our website slowed down, the server has been down more times than up so we have moved back to shared hosting until we can find a supplier that can deliver. nightmare!! If anyone can recommend a good company it would be appreciated. Thanks
