How to leverage browser cache a specific file
-
Hello all,
I am trying to figure out how to add leverage browser caching to these items.- http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp&sensor=false&language=en
- http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/webfont/1/webfont.js
- http://www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js
Whats hard is I understand the purpose, but unlike a css file, how do you specify an expiration on an actual direct path file?
Any help or link to get help is appreciated.
Chris

thank you so much for your insight

Unfortunately, you can't specify browser caching for 3rd party content, Chris. Those cache specs would have to implemented by the site the content is actually hosted on.
The only way around this would be to store the 3rd party scripts on your own site and reference them locally. Then they would fall under the caching directives your site had set. This is usually a bad idea though, as it means you'll have no way of knowing when those scripts might have been updated.
This is one of those areas where site speed best practices simply can't be applied to 3rd party content. And if it's just a few such resources it's not going to have much effect on page speed anyway. Where possible, try to load these scripts asynchronously (like analytics.js) or at least place them in the footer of site if you can.
Hope that helps?
Paul

Disavow File and SSL Conversion Question
Moz Community, So we have a website that we are moving to SSL. It has been 4 years since we submitted our disavow file to google via GWT. We decided to go through our backlinks and realized that many domains we are disavowing currently (under Since we are moving to SSL I understand Google looks at this as a new site. Therefore, we decided to go through our backlinks and realized that many domains we are disavowing currently are no longer active (after 4 years this is expected). Therefore, is it ok to create a new disavow file with the new profile on GW (ssl version of our site)? Also, is it ok the new GW disavow file doesn't include urls we previously disavowed with the non https version? Some links from the old disavow we found were disavowed but they shouldn't have been. Moreover, we found new links we wanted to disavow as well. Thanks QL

Google cache from my website give another website
Hello, Some time ago, I already asked a question here because my homepage disappeared from Google for our main keyword. One of the problems that we showing up was the Google cache. If you look to the cache of the website www.conseilfleursdebach.fr, you see that it show the content of www.lesfleursdebach.be. It's both our website, but one is focus on France and the other one on Belgium. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache%3Awww.conseilfleursdebach.fr&oq=cach&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0j69i60j0l2.1374j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Before, there were flags on the page to go to the other country, but in the meantime I removed all links from the .fr to the .be and opposite. This is ongoing since January. Who has an idea of what can cause this and most of all, what do do? Kind regards, Tine

Hey Moz People, I'm getting a 404 when I cache: this blog post http://www.inscopix.com/blog/decoding-brain-initiative and I'm not able to see what's causing it. Can someone take a look and let me know if they see anything standing out? Thanks,

Why are some pages indexed but not cached by Google?
The question is simple but I don't understand the answer. I found a webpage that was linking to my personal site. The page was indexed in Google. However, there was no cache option and I received a 404 from Google when I tried using cache:www.thewebpage.com/link/. What exactly does this mean? Also, does it have any negative implication on the SEO value of the link that points to my personal website?

How Does Google Treat Date Ranges For a Specific Keyword or Query?
How are date ranges interpreted by Google - ie if you type "1993-2003" does Google know 1995 is incl. and should be referenced for a query? What is the best practice for an ecomm site when it comes to a landing page for multiple years? Should be list out each year (looks spammy, "2003,2004,2005...), go with a full range (1993-2003 ), or is a two digit range suffice (88-95)?

Should I replace underscores in page file names with hyphens?
Many of the 1000s of pages at our Web store that were established several years ago but still relevant today have underscores separating words in page file names. For example: http://www.audiobooksonline.com/whats_new_compact_disc_audiobooks_audio_books.html Should I replace the underscores with hyphens like this: http://www.audiobooksonline.com/whats-new-compact-disc-audiobooks-audio-books.html or should I duplicate pages with underscores using hyphens and have the older pages with underscores 304 re-directed to the new pages with hyphens?

Large volume of ning files in subdomain - hurting or helping?
I have a client that has 600 pages in their root domain and a subdomain that contains 7500 pages of un-seoable Ning pages. PLUS another 650 pages from Sched.com that also is contributing to a large volume of errors. My question is - should I create a new domain for the Ning content - or am I better off with the volume of pages - even if they have loads of errors? Thanks!
