Is there anything obvious about my site to why it's not converting?
-
Hi
I am reaching out to the community to see if anyone can see why our site is not converting or point out anything that might be hindering conversion.
Our site is www.tidy-books.com
Any help would really be appreciated. I can provide more details on request
Thanks

Hi Geraldine-
Without some more data it's difficult to pinpoint where your customers are dropping off (where the friction is), but just on a quick review a few things come to mind that might be worth testing:
- Image Carousel - There's a lot of data out there that suggests that image carousels / sliders hinder conversions. In your case on the home page it's going way to fast and has a lot of text on it, making it almost impossible to read (and I read fast :). Consider a static element that more clearly articulates your benefits, conveys trust, etc (and don't feel like you have to jam every piece of information in there).
- There's a lot going on in your design, including products, categories, newsletter, affiliates, etc. Consider going through each page and asking yourself - where do we want the visitors (or segments within) to go, how do we get them to the products that they're interested in, and how can we eliminate distractions from that path?
- The modal window that pops up after "add to cart" is a bit strange. I think the user experience there could be improved by an animation closer to or on that button, and I'm not sure how well that works for mobile.
- The checkout page might be daunting. Consider splitting up or progressively revealing the forms so the user doesn't get overwhelmed.
- Consider replacing the text input for the discount code with a link that then reveals it. Showing it by default may dissuade visitors that don't have a code (because they think they're not getting the best deal).
- It may be worth trying Shipping Address instead of Billing Address as the first step (and change the checkbox below accordingly). With Shipping I feel like I'm getting something vs giving you something (Billing)
- Finally - do you have a problem with abandonment? Might be worth looking into techniques like cart recovery, exit intent and / or retargeting if so.
As I mentioned just some initial thoughts without looking at data, and these are just ideas that warrant testing. Hope this helps.

Hi Geraldine,
Have you had a look at traffic in Analytics and confirmed that it is the final purchase stage that isn't happening? Or is it that traffic to pages aren't moving through to the product pages? Is this a new problem, or is it something that has just started? Have there been any changes to the site recently?
In these circumstances, I find that using something like Crazy Egg also helps to diagnose what is wrong as this will give you a heatmap of how the page is being used. This can be quite an eye opener!

Is there a way to drill down on Facebook Audience's interests AFTER ad has run?
Howdy, folks. So, Everyone knows that we can create custom Facebook audience with all the filters, interests and behaviors and see what audience "consist of" in FB audience insights. That's all nice and dandy, but here is my situation: So, I "build" the audience the best way I can, run the ad, have, let's say average results. Theoretically (especially if audience is broad), I would be able to get better results if I was able to see which segment (by interests or behaviors) of targeted audience performed best. And then run another ad to narrowed down audience. But, as far as I understand and know, there is no way to do that. FB reporting only provides breakdowns on age, gender, location, devices and couple more things. So, is there way to get that data? P.S. If I'm still confusing, here are couple examples: I run ad for audience who have interest in football OR meat OR potatoes (let's say because I sell meat and potatoes dish for football players :D). So, is there way for me to find out which interest group performed best without running three separate a/b/c test campaigns (imagine if i have 20 "OR" interests)? I run ad for audience of male, between 22-44 age. Is there way to find out which interests group in this audience performed best?

How complicated would it be to optimize our current site for the Safari browser?
Hi all! Okay, here's the scoop. 33% of our site visitors use Safari. 18% of our visitors are on either an iPad or iPhone. According to Google Analytics, our average page load time for visitors using Safari is 411% higher than our site average of 3.8 second. So yes, average page load time pages loading in Safari is over 20 seconds...totally unacceptable, especially considering the large percentage of traffic using it. While I understand that there are some parameters beyond our control, it is in our own best interest to try to optimize our site for Safari. We've got to do better than 20 seconds. As you might have guessed, it's also killing conversation rates on visits from that browser. While every other browser posted double-digit improvements in conversion rates over the last several months, the conversion rate for Safari visitors is down 36%...translating into 10's of thousands in lost revenue. Question for anyone out there gifted in Web design and particular Web Dev....Do you think that it's possible/reasonable to attempt to "fix" our current site, which sits on an ancient platform with ancient code, or is this just not realistic? Would a complete redesign/replatform be the more realistic (and financially sound) way to go? Any insights, experiences and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. If you're someone interested in spec'-ing out the project and giving us a cost estimate please private message me. Thanks so much!

Sales pages or one site?
New client in the pensions market and they want to launch a new product. There are They have asked for a site build but my question is Is there a benefit to writing unique copy for this one product on each micro site/sales page and focus on a particular keyword, with an email capture for lead generation and also a link back to the main site. Buy domains with targeted keywords in them : www.workplacepensions.co.uk www.auto-opt-in-pensions.co.uk etc? Thoughts please as it will change my proposal 😉

Is being listed in the McAfee Directory and displaying a McAfee Secure logo on your site worthwhile?
I am trying to decide whether or not to renew a plan with McAfee Secure. My initial thought was that displaying the logo was not worth the cost, and that I would be able to establish the same consumer confidence with a seal from Authorize.net. Does anyone have an opinion on display the McAfee Secure seal and/or being listed in the McAfee directory.

Does the word next to domain gives more relevancy to the page of it's URL?
Whether putting a (category or brand) word next to domain is better than on the end of an URL? (i.e. domain.com/sony/tvs or domain.com/tv/sony) Which one would get higher result on SERP "tv" or "sony" in both cases? Or maybe they both serves the same?

Can Changing Meta Descriptions Negatively Impact SERP's?
I have just had a page start ranking well in key SERP's and I would like to change the meta description and add a price as we are extremely competative in that line. Could changing the meta description now a page is ranking negatively impact the SERP placing? Does anyone have any experience with this?
