Maximum links per month?

Hi All,
I am setting up a new website with a fresh domain on an existing server. I can foresee that linkbuilding is pretty easy in this sector and it wouldn't be that difficult to build as many as 200 links a month.
What I wanted to ask was whether it is possible to put a figure on the maximum number of links I could build without incurring a spam related penalty?
Could I for instance start with say 50 links / month and then in increase that by 25 links / month for the next couple of months to seetle for something around the 100 links/month mark?

Sorry one other thing. Links would come from sites with no more 100 pages each so few major sites with high DA.

I don't want to go into exact specifics, but the site is in the adult industry and links are obtained by giving free advertising in exchange for a homepage link. There are normally about 5 outbound links to other sites on these sites that are similar in nature. Some are dofollow banners(no anchor text), some are text based.
I will be writing a script to alternate anchor text between different target phrases and pages so that I can avoid looking like an affiliate link. One thing that does worry me is that a big chunk of these links are reasonably poor quality as SEO is not really used by my patential link partners.
My focus would probably be first quality then quantity though.

I don't think it's possible to make such a generalisation. It all depends on so much, certainly, 200 links a month for a new site could seem agressive but...
Can you supply a bit more info? What is the site, how are you getting these links? That kind of stuff.
Happy to look again if you can fill in some of the gaps.

A few questions about unnatural links
i have just had another reconsideration request rejected by Google. In my rejection message they have given me 3 examples of unnatural links, but two of them I have had nothing to do with. My website is http://www.seoco.co.uk Here are the 3 links they mentioned: http://www.pyjamapeople.com/articles/authors/107/David-Eaves http://www.timeandattendance.co.uk/blog/?tag=access-control http://www.worx.at/blog/und-punkt/ the 1st one is just a website that republished one of my articles, I never submitted there or anything. Do I need to contact every single website that republished one of my articles and get those removed? Are they not classed as natural? Also, the page is not even cached by Google, why are they telling me to get rid of links that are not even in their index? The 2nd link is a client site and is definitely unnatural, I removed my link from the main part of the site a while ago but the blog footer was not updated, I will take care of that one. The 3rd link is a totally natural blogroll link that I had nothing to do with. What do you think I should do about it? Should I mention to Google on my next reconsideration request that it is in fact natural, or should I just bite the bullet and get it taken down? Does the ratio of external nofollow links to external "do follow" links matter in terms of SERPs ranking?
My site has an external link nofollow:dofollow ratio of approximately 1:1 That is, there are about as many nofollow external links as "do follow" external links. I have an impression that the ratio of no-follow to "do follow" links is a factor in the way that our website shows up in SERPs. I have the impression from reading a variety of sources, and from looking at Seomoz, that calculate "trust" factors as if they mattered (in SERPs), that seem to value a relatively low nofollow:dofollow ratio. Am I correct about that? Thanks,

Link exchanges
I have quite a few legal clients and 90% of my clients top competitors are doing 1:1 link exchanges and they have been doing it for years. Other industries Dont seem as prevalent. I am just boggled every time someone says link exchanges don't work, will get penalized, or value is not passed. Its been working for my competitors....Legal SEO's seem to focus heavily on link exchanges. I have yet to do link exchanges, but am about to get started with a resourceful directory of local businesses on my clients site. Some will be linking back, but not all. Fear of penalization is lurking in my mind. Does anyone have any real data on this? Does anyone have an example of doing this properly and an example of how not to do it? Back-link Quantity
Hi there, I am writing a post for a well respected blog in our industry. I'm debating on either to target 1 key-phrase in this post with an external back-link, or to go target 2-3 back-links in the post. Just a few questions on this: Would including 1 external back link be more beneficial than having 2 or 3 external back-links in the post? Kind Regards

So I ran into a site that was not ranking 4 days ago and has over 2 million links to it on some keywords. My guess is this is a link bomb, but the issue is this is pushing one of my sites down. Does anyone know a good way to over come a bomb like this?
So I ran http://www.riogrande.com/ into this site not that long ago and wanted to see if any other SEO's have an opinion on it. I've seen a Google bomb before, but the amount of links going into this URL is insane. The thing is how does one over come a Google Bomb? Do you just wait to see what Google does or do you just hope to rank under that URL? I should also note that it appears that all the keywords to it are relevant to the sites content.
