Does Automated High Quality Content Look Like Low Quality to Search Engines?
-
I have 1,000+ pages that all have very similar writing, but different results.
Example:
Nr of days on market
Average sales price
Median sales price
etc etc etcAll the results are very different for each neighborhood. However, as per the above, the wording is similar. The content is very valuable to users. However, I am concerned search engines may see it as low quality content, as wording is identical across all these pages (except the results). Any view on this? Any examples to back up such views?

Automated means that my my web developers has an algorithm in places that calculates changes in al those statistical fields on an ongoing basis so users always have new up to date data. From the URL I included you can on top bar change neighborhood etc and the statistics will change. Great insight for user but since writing "median price per year", "$ Volume of active listings" etc are same across all pages I wonder how I should expect search engines to treat it.
Any articles or experience to back up ideas highly appreciated.

Ah, OK. So, when you say "automated" content, what does that mean, exactly? And why is there thousands of pages? Are they all unique somehow? How are you deciding when it is worthwhile to create a new page?
I'd need more insight into your website hierarchy, content strategy and more to give more of an answer.

High quality stats on the page. Many pages like that. Good for user.

My concern is whether your content is duplicated in ways that offer no additional value to search engines and website visitors. For example, do you have two pages that have pretty much the exact-same text except that one uses the phrase "average sales price" and another has "median sales price" instead?
While I know that "average" and "median" mean two different things, if the only difference in the text of two pages is that one uses "average" and the other uses "median," then I would be very concerned about a Panda hit from Google. Panda hits websites that have duplicated, low-quality, and/or unoriginal content on a large scale.
My question: unless a website has thousands of products or thousands of blog posts, do you really need thousands of pages? Most websites that have thousands of pages have spun content to target one specific keyword on one specific page -- and doing this many, many times over. One of my first "SEO" jobs years ago was to rewrite website pages in different words for exactly this purpose. (I know now that it was a black-hat job.) Today, Google is smart enough to know that a single page can be relevant for multiple keyword variations and themes -- so such actions are not necessary. And rightly so!
My other concern is your use of the word "automated." 99% of the time, anything automated will appear to Google -- and, more importantly, to users -- as spam. Original, authoritative, quality, human-created content is always better. Five pages of this is better than 500 pages of automated text. I would look into consolidating a lot of your pages into a smaller set of completely-original pages that each targets a set of related keyword themes.
Again, I don't know your specific case, so I could be wrong. But your post set off a bunch of warnings. If you need any clarifications, please feel free to reply!

Content Strategy/Duplicate Content Issue, rel=canonical question
Hi Mozzers: We have a client who regularly pays to have high-quality content produced for their company blog. When I say 'high quality' I mean 1000 - 2000 word posts written to a technical audience by a lawyer. We recently found out that, prior to the content going on their blog, they're shipping it off to two syndication sites, both of which slap rel=canonical on them. By the time the content makes it to the blog, it has probably appeared in two other places. What are some thoughts about how 'awful' a practice this is? Of course, I'm arguing to them that the ranking of the content on their blog is bound to be suffering and that, at least, they should post to their own site first and, if at all, only post to other sites several weeks out. Does anyone have deeper thinking about this?

Silly Question still - Because I am paying high to google adwords is it possible google can't rank me high in organic?
Hello All, My ecommerce site gone in penalty more than 3 years before and within 3 months I got message from google penalty removed. Since then till date my organic ranking is very worst. In this 3 years I improved my site onpage very great. If I compare my site with all other competitors who are ranking in top 10 then my onpage that includes all schema, reviews, sitemap, header tags, meta's etc, social media, site structure, most imp speed, google page speed insight score, pingdom, w3c errors, alexa rank, global rank, UI, offers, design, content, code to text raito, engagement rate, page views, time on site etc all my sites always good compare to competitors. They also have few backlinks I do have few backlinks only. I am doing very high google adwords and my conversion rate is very very good. But do you think because I am paying since last 3 year high to google because of that google have some setting or strategy that those who perform well in adwords so not to bring up in organic? Is it possible I can talk with google on this? If yes then what will be the medium of conversation? Pls give some valuable inputs I am performing very much in paid so user end site is very very well. Does integration of external supplemenatry data help or hurt regarding googles perception of content quality? (e.g weather info, climate table, population info, currency exchange data via API or open source databases)
We just lost over 20% traffic after google algo update at June 26.

In SEO forums people guess that there was likely a Phantom update or maybe a Panda update. The most common advice I found was adding more unique content. While we have already unique proprietary content on all our pages and we plan to add more, I was also considering to add some content from external sources. Our site is travel related so I thought about adding for each city page external data such as weather, climate data, currency exchange data via APIs from external sources and also some data such as population from open source databases or some statistical info we would search on the web. I believe this data would be useful to the visitors. I understand that purely own content would be ideal and we will work on this as well. Any thoughts? Do you think the external data may rather help or hurt how google perceives content quality?0 -
Uppercase in URLs = Dupe Content
Hi Mozzers, My developers recently changed a bunch of the pages I am working on into all lower case (something I know ideally should have been done in the first place). The URLs have sat for about a week as lower case without 301 redirecting the old upper-case URLs to these pages. In Google Webmaster Tools, I'm seeing Google recognize them as duplicate meta tags, title tags, etc. See image: http://screencast.com/t/KloiZMKOYfa We're 301 redirecting the old URLs to the new ones ASAP, but is there anything else I should do? Any chance Google is going to noindex these pages because it seems them as dupes until I fix them? Sometimes I can see both pages in the SERPs if I use personalized results, and it scares me: http://screencast.com/t/4BL6iOhz4py3 Thanks!

What to do when unique content is out of the question?
SEO companies/people are always stating that unique, quality content is one of the best things for SEO... But what happens when you can't do that? I've got a movie trailer blog and of late a lot of movie agencies are now asking us to use the text description they give us along with the movie trailer. This means that some pages are going to have NO unique content. What do you do in a situation like this?

Guest blogging and duplicate content
I have a guest blog prepared and several sites I can submit it to, would it be considered duplicate content if I submitted one guest blog post to multipul blogs? and if so this content is not on my site but is linking to it. What will google do? Lets say 5 blogs except the same content and post it up, I understand that the first blog to have it up will not be punished, what about the rest of the blogs? can they get punished for this duplicate content? can I get punished for having duplicate content linking to me?

Is this will post Duplicated Content
I have domain let say abcshoesonlinestore.com and inside pages of this abcshoesonlinestore.com is ranking very well such as affiliate page, knowledgebase page and other pages, HOWEVER i would like to change my home page and product page to shorter url which abcshoes.com and keep those inside page like www.abashoesonlinestore.com/affiliate or www.abcshoesonlinestore.com/knowledgebase as it is - will this pose duplicate content? This is my plan to do it: the home page and product page will be www.abcshoes.com and when people click www.abcshoes.com/affiliate it will redirect 301 to abcshoesonlinestore.com/affiliate HOWEVER if someone type abcshoesonlinestore.com or abcshoesonlinestore.com/product it will redirect to abcshoes.com or its product page itself (i want to use 302 instead 301 (ASSUMING if the homapage or product page have manual penalization or anything bad we want to leave it behind and start fresh JUST assume because i read some post that 301 will carry any bad thing to new site too) The reason i do not want to 301 from abcshoesonlinestore.com to abcshoes.com is because those many pages is ranking top 3 in GOOGLE ( i worry will lose this ranking since this bringing traffic for us) Is this good idea or bad idea or any better idea or should i try to see the outcome 🙂 - the only concern is from abcshoesonlinestore.com to abcshoes.com will pose as duplicate content if i do not use 301 - or can i use google webmaster tools to remove the home page and product page for abcshoesonlinestore.com can we tell google that? PS: (home page and product page will have new revise content and minor design change) but inside page will stay the same design Please give me some advise

Duplicate content
Is there manual intervention required for a site that has been flagged for duplicate content to get back to its original rankings, once the duplicated content has been removed? Background: Our site recently experienced a significant drop in traffic around the time that a chunk of content from other sites (ie. duplicate) went live. While it was not an exact replica of the pages on other sites, there was quite a bit of overlap. That content has since been removed, but our traffic hasn't improved. What else can we do to improve our ranking?
