Product page Canonicalization best practice
-
I'm getting duplicate content errors in GWT for product list pages that look like this:
-www.example.com/category-page/product/?p=2The "p=2" example already has a rel=canonical in place, " Shouldn't the non-canonical pages be using the canonical attribute for the first page rather than the additional product pages?
Thanks!

Awesome Reed. Thanks for the hat-tip on Twitter too. I appreciate that. Cheers!

Thanks Dana, checked out the blog and video...pinned to my RSS feed.

Hi Reed,
I agree with the first part of Marty's answer above, but I disagree with both Marty and Arie regarding what the proper canonical tag should be for the pages in your paginated series. It just so happens that I was studying this very subject last week and Adam Audette released an excellent post on the subject on the RKG blog.
According to Adam, the canonical tags on the pages in your series should be self-referencing. If they aren't, you run the risk of Googlebot thinking that all the content (products, items...if it's an eCommerce site) is just the same as the content on page one of the series, which of course, it isn't.
Here's a link to his most excellent blog post on the subject, which also contains some links to other talks and posts he has given regarding pagination. Pagination is one of his main authority areas:

Hope this helps!

Yes, the canonical should point to the original page. If you have 2 similar pages the canonical of the second page should point to the first page.
I agree with Martin that the rel=next and rel=next is a good solution for pagination as well.
Good luck

Your best way of handling that is to canonicalize all pages to a "View All" page for the search engine and use rel="prev" and rel="next" for your "Next" and "Previous" links respectively.
That's the best way to handle pagination if you're going to use canonicals. To answer your question directly though, the paginated pages should not canonical themselves.
Another solution would be to noindex, follow pages 2 - n.
Hope that helps!

Best Practice for www and non www
How is the best way to handle all the different variations of a website in terms of www | non www | http | https? In Google Search Console, I have all 4 versions and I have selected a preference. In Open Site Explorer I can see that the www and non www versions are treated differently with one group of links pointing to each version of the same page. This gives a different PA score. eg. http://mydomain.com DA 25 PA 35 http://www.mydomain.com DA 19 PA 21 Each version of the home page having it's only set of links and scores. Should I try and "consolidate" all the scores into one page? Should I set up redirects to my preferred version of the website? Thanks in advance

Page titles in browser not matching WP page title
I have an issue with a few page titles not matching the title I have In WordPress. I have 2 pages, blog & creative gallery, that show the homepage title, which is causing duplicate title errors. This has been going on for 5 weeks, so its not an a crawl issue. Any ideas what could cause this? To clarify, I have the page title set in WP, and I checked "Disable PSP title format on this page/post:"...but this page is still showing the homepage title. Is there an additional title setting for a page in WP?

Which one is the best
Dear Seo experts, 1,5 month ago i started a informative website, i started it with a blank registrated domainname. Now 1 month further I've stacked the website with content and did much linkbuilding. Yesterday i ve bought a domainname from quarantine, its a domainname around 6 years old and has a bunch of backlinks already. What to do next? The first one has good content and good recent linkbuilding done. The second is a better domainname and is old and has old backlinks. And also higher PA and DA then the first one. Should i now go for the first one and 301 redirect the old domainname to the new one. Or should I do it the opposite way, 301 redirect the new website to the old domainname and move all content to the old domainname and try to move all linkbuilding to older domain? Hopefully anyone could give me a great answere, thank you so much! Kind regards, Menno

Home Page .index.htm and .com Duplicate Page Content/Title
I have been whittling away at the duplicate content on my clients' sites, thanks to SEOmoz's pro report, and have been getting push back from the account manager at register.com (the site was built here and the owner doesn't want to move it). He says these are the exact same page and he can't access one to redirect to the other. Any suggestions? The SEOmoz report says there is duplicate content on both these urls: Durango Mountain Biking | Durango Mountain Resort - Cascade Village http://www.cascadevillagehotel.com/index.htm Durango Mountain Biking | Durango Mountain Resort - Cascade Village http://www.cascadevillagehotel.com/ Your help is greatly appreciated!
