How to setup a redirect from one subfolder to another to avoid duplicate content.
-
Hello All,
I have a WordPress site that Moz says has duplicate content.
http://deltaforcepi.com/latest-news/page/3
http://deltaforcepi.com/category/latest-news/page/3So I set up an addition to the .htaccess file . . .
redirect code to move from one folder to another
RewriteRule ^category/latest-news/(.*)$ /latest-news/$1 [R=301,NC,L]
What did I do wrong? I am not proficient in .htaccess files.

Thank you, I did not think it would have been an issue either but the customer did not like seeing that on the report and wanted it fixed. I will look into how to setup a robots.txt file to take care of this.

Google has always said and very recently repeated that internal duplicate content is not an issue, Google will simply decide on what content is best to return results too.
If you are concerned you have a few options instead of what you are doing.
Use the meta noindex so that Google does not index the data. If you cant do that because of wordpress then this can be set externally Using the X-Robots-Tag HTTP header.
https://developers.google.com/webmasters/control-crawl-index/docs/robots_meta_tag
Hope that helps. Personally I would keep the page up because Google is used to dealing with wordpress and would punish thousands of sites if this was really an issue.

Nope, that didn't do it. I see that WordPress creates duplicate content from having an archive of posts made on the website. Maybe If I can have an robot.txt file that does not crawl that directory???
-
I believe it should be-
RewriteRule ^category/latest-news/(.*)$ http://yourdomain.com/latest-news/$1 [R=301,NC,L]
Try that and see if it doesn't fix it for you. (Replace 'yourdomain.com' with your real domain of course.)

How do I find why I have a 302 redirect?
I have a 10 year old website and I have just recently changed to a https: version and my host ionos setup a 301 redirect. I have noticed on my Moz reports that as well as a 301 redirect there is also a 302. How do I find why I have a 302 redirect? I have looked in my htaccess file and it says:- RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R,L] I'm assuming this is the 301 redirect, where will I find the 302 redirect. Please note that I am using Wordpress that was not setup through ionos. Does anyone know where a 302 redirect could also be installed or how I find why its there or where its coming from? Thanks Andrew0 -
I have a site that has a 302 redirect loop on the home page (www.oncologynurseadvisor.com) i
i am trying to do an audit on it using screaming frog and the 302 stops it. My dev team says it is to discourage Non Human Traffic and that the bots will not see it. Is there any way around this or what can I tell the dev team that shows them it is not working as they state.

Menu setup
I'm looking for feedback on menu structure to be SEO friendly. This is setup with ubmenu. What I am gathering is that because of the amount of items it could cause issues with google because it is exceeding the maximum links per page, currently the come shows 153 links. I'm not sure what to do since people search for all these terms in the menu, but I don't want to be penalized. also saw this http://www.practicalecommerce.com/articles/127191-SEO-Simplifying-Navigation-Cuts-Performance so im really confused. http://www.familychristiandoors.com/

Https Implementation - Weird Redirection After Putting 's' in http://
Hi Mozers, I have come across some websites with their https version going to a totally different website. For example, http://www.samplesite1.com will load fine but when the protocol is changed to https (https://www.samplesite1.com) it will go to a total different domain say, https://www.samplesite2.com How does this happen, in technical sense? In the warning from browser, it says the the security certificate is from the other website but I would like to understand how this happens and how it impacts SEO. I seem to be not able to understand the relationship of this error and SEO impact. Thanks in advance for your response. Malika

3 Ecommerce Stores All Under One Roof - Good idea? SEO Benefits? Concerns?
I run multiple ecommerce stores in one particular market. I've been considering merging them all together and using a Single sign-on and allowing users to swap between websites. Each site is unique in their own way and are already ranking well on their own. But the goal is to merge them altogether to create a better user-flow. An example of what I'm trying to do is what Zurb.com does (http://zurb.com/apps). They have all of their different products but they're under different domains. Another example is http://www.envato.com/sites and all of their brands to their sites. Will this negatively impact SEO efforts across the board or will we eventually benefit from merging them. Also, is there a correct way to do this. For example; Should I make one site the "parent website" and then create sub-directories of the other websites and work on the DNS to point to the right locations. I'm not the technical person on our team but I do lead the marketing and I can't find the right answer for this question.

301 redirect on Windows IIS. HELP! (Part 2)
My webmaster's trying (but struggling) to 301-redirect the non.www version of my site to the www version. He's following these instructions given to me in a response to an SEOMoz Private Question (ah, the good old days!). So far he's 301-redirected the homepage but seems stuck on how to do the entire site. Any clues on what he should be doing?

Duplicate content.
Hi there....we're dealing with a duplicate content mess. We're a franchisor(www.kitchensolvers.com), and each of our franchises have their own landing page. The trouble is, the way the landing pages are set up, it's causing all the links available on the national level of the website to be re-indexed each time for every franchise! We don't have an in-house developer and was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and point me in the right direction.
