Issue getting total links, page & domain authority
-
Hi guys, I am trying to get total links, page & domain authority using the API. I am requesting the following columns:
Cols=6871947673632768328204816384343597383681653687091214
{ "fjid": 207343179, "ued": 43324279, "pib": 255645, "ptrr": 0.0056131743357352125, "fmrp": 8.246626591590841, "unid": 954915, "fjf": 4003651, "fjr": 0.00040067116628622016, "ftrp": 8.308303969566644, "ftrr": 0.0012189619975325583, "fejp": 9.265328830369816, "pnid": 45883246, "fjd": 2480265, "ujfq": 1277385, "pjip": 1230240, "fjp": 9.586342983782004, "fuid": 294877628, "uu": "www.google.com/", "pejr": 0.0004768398971363439, "ufq": "www.google.com/", "pejp": 9.647424778525615, "ujp": 300689, "utrp": 7.916901429865898, "ptrp": 9.487254666203722, "utrr": 0.001639219985667878, "fmrr": 0.000731592927123369, "pda": 100, "pjd": 5600882, "ulc": 1342758719, "fnid": 12165784, "fejr": 0.00016052965883996156, "ujb": 107264 }
I cannot see the UPA column returned in the JSON object. Im using 34359738368 for the UPA column. I need to retrieve the three fields (page authority, domain authority and total links) in the same query. Is it possible?

Cool!
I'm glad you figured it out. You can also visit our developer discussion group here: http://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293196-developer-discussion-group for more detailed help with the API.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Cheers,
Joel. -
I found the answer by myself. I was concatenating all the values for each column. That's the problem. The right way to use the columns is making a SUM of all them. Example:
$cols = 32768+68719476736+32+8+4294967296+16384+34359738368;
It means, we will send the parameter Cols with the value 107374231592 (sum of all the values).
The API returns exactly what I want!

Where is the link prospecting tool?
I feel like last year when Moz was still SEOMoz I used a beta tool that would help you build a bunch of queries for link prospecting. You would tell it what your sites about and a few other pieces of information, and it would give you a list of google queries to get you started (ie inurl:directory <industryname> +"add site"</industryname>). However, I'm having a hard time finding this tool, or any reference to it on the web. It's also possible that it wasn't a moz tool but I'm misremembering where I found it. Does anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?

Comparing Domain Authority Scores
Since your scale (like PageRank) is a logarithmic scale, it makes it hard to judge the distance between 2 scores. Can you give me a rule of thumb. For PageRank, each jump is an exponential jump - so that a PR6 is perhaps 10 times stronger than a PR5. What is the log base that SEOMoz uses. Should I assume that a 60 is 10 times stronger than a 50? This is important when it comes to measuring progress because growth is going to get more difficult as you move up the scale and I need to communicate the distance between our current Authority score and our goal. Thank You!

Links (external and total) have significantly decreased in 1 month from August to October - why?
Greetings, After comparing a few stats in one of my campaigns, I noticed that External Followed Links, Total External Links, and Total Links significantly decreased from August 29th to when I just checked them a few days ago (October 3). Any ideas on why this happened? For example, Total External Links went from 50,589 to 39,203. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Jenny

Link reporting.
Is there a way in the Pro reporting where I can see a summary of the number of incoming links by type (blogs / news / wiki / dir / forums etc)? Even better, could the report give me an average Page Rank for each link type? Thanks,

Merged websites issue
Hi Before my time, company big.com took over company small.com. They decided to replicate big.com web pages onto small.com - so both websites have identical pages and copy, just different domains. Within the small.com sitmap.xml they list only big.com urls. They are also using big.com google analytics tracking code on small.com. I have no idea what happened to the original content on small.com or if they put 301 redirects on. I am thinking: do a 301 redirect on small domain to big domain. A) Agree? Small domain is likely to have valuable historic inbound links which are now going to 404 pages. After I do the 301 should these then appear in big.com SEOMoz campaign and on big.com webmaster tool for me to fix? B) Views? Or should I get up webmaster tool on small.com and fix that first? C) Views? Many thanks in advance guys, sorry its a long statement! Richard

SEO Moz Tools - too many on the page links result driving me nuts
A while back I remember Rand and I having a conversation about how many links on the page and up until that point I had followed the NO MORE THAN 100 links on a page rule - which is what the MOZ tools are telling me now in the campaigns I have running. But then during a seminar both of us were holding this 100 link rule question came up and Rand commented that this was probably old hat now as the search engines can crawl a much greater number of links in the page. I was encouraged by his answer especially where ecommerce websites are concerned. But the MOZ tool is driving me nuts telling me that this 100 link rule is still something to be adhered too. It is especially frustrating when we are discussing ecommerce website sites with editable mega menus. Examples to support this question are www.bohemiadesign.co.uk or www.flowersbuydelivery.co.uk which are 2 ecommerce sites I am aware of using such mega menus that are editable and give a link count greater than 100. and I am sure there are many more sites like this, even Amazon for example. So, how much notice do we take of this warning in MOZ tools that is telling me about excessive numbers of links on the pages it lists as needing corrected?

Which would you chose? Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's & 40 IBL (Same Domain)
Which would you chose? Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's & 40 IBL (Same Domain) Pretty self explanatory. I want to know what metrics SEOMozzers rely on most. If you are not an expert at evaluating links for large scale development please don't muddy the waters on this question with a thin and vague answer.
