Help with Google Places, local listings & Google+ please!
-
Hi all,
I work for enterprise app development & mobile consultancy, Mubaloo.
I recently asked a question around getting better rankings for London-based search results. One answer was to set up a local listing for Mubaloo's London office. I thought I had done by setting up our London office up on Places for Business - is this the same as a local listing?
In addition to this, I can't connect our existing Google+ page to our local Mubaloo Bristol & London listings as Google has created separate pages for each! Is anyone else having this issue? Can it be resolved?

Hi Clair,
Regarding the connection between the various types of Google pages, check out this excellent Mike Blumenthal post:
http://localu.org/blog/merge-google-pages-usually-cant-now/
And here's another one:
http://localu.org/blog/kind-google-plus-page/
Regarding your question about a local listing - a 'local listing' is kind of a vague term. It could be a profile of your business on literally any platform. Google-specific lingo these days is that you can create a Google+ Local page using the Google Places for Business dashboard. There are other types of Google pages, as well, described in the above articles.
Hope this helps!

Hiya,
I'm not sure if its available as each local listing is different more info is here -

You can always try to move people towards a main brand page.
The idea is you search for a business locally (be it office or restaurant) you want to leave a good review for it not the brand. Its like a fast food place its no good having a country (or even global) review for the place you want to know what your local fast food restaurant is like.
So unfortunately its a bit unavoidable but you can maintain one larger brand page to interactive with people. there may other solutions I don't know of but I hope that helps.

Hi,
Thanks for your update and I followed the link and login to double check again. In the individual location there is still no option on the Goolge+ page. It rather generates a google+ page for me when I create a new location.
I think it doesn't allow us to connect location to an existing google+ page because these are locations not business?

Hiya,
Best bet is to check here - http://www.google.co.uk/business/placesforbusiness/
in there you can also see what Google plus account is associated with your listings. if you don't see a listing you may need to "claim" one.
local and places are essentially the same there are some difference but for most results the above link is the quickest and best way.
hope that helps.

Hi,
I have the same issue looks like there isn't an option to connect a location to a specific g+ account. I'll update once I've got more info.

Local SEO penalty?
Hi Moz Community We are in a unique position. We just launched a new site for a client. The site was doing fine before but it wasn't very user friendly. We created a site with almost identical architecture and content as the last one, just new design and layout. Within 5 days, the site dropped off of LOCAL search almost completely, it now ranks on the 9th page in Austin Texas. (reliantplumbingdotcom). Every other location (Dallas, LA, Philadelphia, Houston) all show the site on the first page for relevant keywords (Austin Plumbers, Austin Plumber) I have no idea what to think about this and don't know if we're being penalized somehow (checked GSC and no manual penalty) I have never experienced a site being blacklisted locally but well ranked everywhere else. Thoughts?

How best to delete a duplicate Google My Business listing
Hi Mozzers, I am in need of help please. What is the best way to remove a duplicate GMB listing? Is best practice to a) Mark as permanently closed and wait for Google to update b) Call GMB in India and ask them to delete the redundant listing (do they even do this for you?) c) Delete the page from within my dashboard settings I am worried my NAP data is being diluted by inaccurate historical listings (most of which I have been able to claim ownership of) Any help appreciated. Should I change my listing title or even my domain
I have a domain for a lawn maintenance company. The domain is something like mycompanyyardcare.com Even though this company do yard care most of the business that is trying to attract is Lawn maintenance. The keywords that most people type when they are looking for this service is "lawn care". Should i change my domain to mycompanylawncare.com instead of mycompanyyardcare.com? Other thing, in the listings or links that I'm creating in directories, the company name is Mycompany yard care & snow removal. Should I change to Mycompany lawn care & snow removal?

Google Local listing variations
Hi Moz People, I sometimes receive rich snippets (relating to my services) with my Google Local listing and other times I do not. Specifically, if I search my company name ("Marketing Implementation Clinic" as per Google+ Page name) I see the a list of services with the local listing (see the picture attached). However, if I search a derivation (say "Marketing Clinic Melbourne"") I see a very simple local listing without the services snippets. Are there explicit guidelines on when these snippets would be returned? LPk6tmq.png?1

I am wondering if anyone has come across a list of local directories for all countries/ regions. Like if there is a cheat sheet anywhere for what local directories exist for Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, UK, etc.
