Website not coming up properly on Google
-
Hello, our website (http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php) is not coming up properly on Google search (for example, when you search for Rogue Valley Microdevices on Google). We believe that there is something wrong with the website source code, and Google cannot index it properly. However, your Crawl Test results did not indicate any such problems.
Can someone help us with some advice please?

Got it -- thank you very much!

Via .htaccess file in the root of your site you can use mod rewrite to display http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php as http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/ instead.
It would look something like:
Rewrite index.php to root
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} index.php
RewriteRule ^(.*)index.php$ /$1 [R=301,L]I can't say I'm master at .htaccess files, so that may not be 100% correct.
It would be better if someone with a little more experience with rewrites could add their input.

Hello Spencer,
Many thanks for your feedback.
Could you please comment further on what you mean by "rewriting" http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php to http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/ ?

This is mostly speculation but it almost looks like Google is choosing to index http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/ instead of http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php.
If you search for site:roguevalleymicro.com it shows http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/ with the title and meta description for http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php.
It might be doing that because almost every single link, including the google+ page link to http://www.roguevalleymicro.com instead of http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php.
I would actually advise that you rewrite http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php to http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/ which is more aesthetically pleasing and will probably fix your issue.

Many thanks Chris!
By the way, would you be able to email me your other response to mikepinelis@earthlink.net

Hi Mike,
I just wrote a loverly long response but Moz thought it was spam and blocked me so in a shorter version here are the following helpful resources -
Setting up WMT - http://www.bruceclay.com/newsletter/volume117/set-up-google-webmaster-tools.htm
Setting preferred domain - https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/44231?hl=en
Side note to preferred domain a lot of people also use canonical tag to do the same
Penalty guide - http://monitorbacklinks.com/blog/seo/identify-recover-google-penalty/
Even if that's not the problem it's still good knowledge to have. Any problems I'm sure the Moz community can help

Hi Chris,
Just to confirm, you are talking about Google Webmaster tools, correct?
If so, under what setting can we check that both http: & www. are set up as our preferred domain?
Also, how can we check if we have a penalty?
Many thanks,
Mike
-
Have you checked your webmaster tools and did you set up both http: & www. to set your preferred domain? It is very strange. If they are both set up it's also a good way to check if you have a penalty
-
Chris, it's not indexed properly (what you are seeing is some sort of a different listing on Google; perhaps a Google Products page listing)
If you type in:
site: http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php
the page does not come up.
site: page URL is the way to test if a page is indexed by Google.
Do you see what I mean?
Mike

I see it -

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply.
The problem is that our site does not appear to be indexed by Google.
Please see
site: http://www.roguevalleymicro.com/index.php
The site does not come up.

Hi what's the problem? It's coming up in searches for me. Side note though you've got 14 404's on site
Have you checked your webmaster tools for any errors also don't forget did you check both http and non webmaster tools?

Redirecting Old Websites to New Websites
Hi Everyone, We are about to take down a number of websites in favour of a new singular B2B hub and would be looking to redirect all of these sites to the new home. For SEO purposes, what would be the best way to do this? Due to the difference in setups and scale of the site, it would be difficult to correctly match up each page to page between the sites for individual 301 redirects. Could someone advise on the best plan of action? Thanks.

Is my site penalized by Google?
Let's say my website is aaaaa.com and company name is aaaaa Systems. When I search Google aaaaa my site do not come up at all. When I search for "aaaaa Systems" it comes up. But in WMT I see quite a few clicks from aaaaa as keyword. Most of the traffic is brand keywords only. I never received any manual penalty in WMT ever. Is the site penalized or regular algorithm issues?

Google+ Page Question
Just started some work for a new client, I created a Google+ page and a connected YouTube page, then proceeded to claim a listing for them on google places for business which automatically created another Google+ page for the business listing. What do I do in this situation? Do I delete the YouTube page and Google+ page that I originally made and then recreate them using the Google+ page that was automatically created or do I just keep both pages going? If the latter is the case, do I use the same information to populate both pages and post the same content to both pages? That doesn't seem like it would be efficient or the right way to go about handling this but I could be wrong.

Google Ranking Wrong Page
The company I work for started with a website targeting one city. Soon after I started SEO for them, they expanded to two cities. Optimization was challenging, but we managed to rank highly in both cities for our keywords. A year or so later, the company expanded to two new locations, so now 4 total. At the time, we realized it was going to be tough to rank any one page for four different cities, so our new SEO strategy was to break the website into 5 sections or minisites consisting of 4 city-targeted sites, and our original site which will now be branded as more of a national website. Our URL structures now look something like this:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | cpapciak
www.company.com
www.company.com/city-1
www.company.com/city-2
www.company.com/city-3
www.company.com.city-4 Now, in the present time, all is going well except for our original targeted city. The problem is that Google keeps ranking our original site (which is now national) instead of the new city-specific site we created. I realize that this is probably due to all of the past SEO we did optimizing for that city. My thoughts are that Google is confused as to which page to actually rank for this city's keyword terms and I was wondering if canonical tags would be a possible solution here, since the pages are about 95% identical. Anyone have any insight? I'd really appreciate it!0 -
Google + under Google business domain email account
Hello there, I have a quick and straight question and I am hoping to find answer here. What do we do with a G+ profile that was set up through a business domain's email account that is used by more than one person? We want to use the company name, but we can't as it is considered personal email account although it is under business domain verified by Google. Is there a way that we ask Google to change it and allow us to use the name of the company or should we just deactivate it? Thanks in advance!

Splitting one Website into 2 Different New Websites with 301 redirects, help?
Here's the deal. My website stbands.com does fairly well. The only issue it is facing a long term branding crisis. It sells custom products and sporting goods. We decided that we want to make a sporting goods website for the retail stuff and then a custom site only focusing on the custom stuff. One website transformed and broken into 2 new ones, with two new brand names. The way we are thinking about doing this is doing a lot of 301 redirects, but what do we do with the homepage (stbands.com) and what is the best practice to make sure we don't lose traffic to the categories, etc.? Which new website do we 301 the homepage to? It's rough because for some keywords we rank 3 or 4 times on the first page. Scary times, but something must be done for the long term. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. We are set for a busy next few months 🙂

Redirecting multiple websites to a single website
I've been trying to run several truck accessory affiliate websites for a quite a while now. I've recently decided to combine all of my affiliate websites into a single community website. This way I'll be able to focus all my energy and link building into a single place and build up a single brand. My question is, how many websites do I try to redirect to the new website at a time? Do I need to spread this out? Or is it ok if I move all of my content and websites at a single time? I have around 30 websites that I could move to this new domain. Thanks! Andy
