"Items 1 - 24 of 75" Appearing in Meta Description - How Do I Remove It?
-
Hey guys,
I've noticed that the item count is appearing at the beginning of the meta description for our brand pages, e.g. "Items 1 - 24 of 75 -". The issue I have with this is that it reduces the character limit (due to truncation), consequently leaving me with little room to play with to include more useful information.
Is there a way to remove this?
Cheers,
A

I want to clarify something that I think would help to better answer the question. Is this showing in the meta description in the source code on the pages or is it just showing up in Google's search results?
If it's in the source code then you obviously can change it, although it may be somewhat difficult depending on the cms.
If it's only in search results and not in the source code then it's going to be a lot more difficult to get rid of. This is something that Google is detecting on your site and automatically displaying because it think that it's beneficial to searchers.

Hey guys,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I want to A/B test it and see if I get a better CTR without it, but instead include a KSP like "money back guarantee", which I currently can't do due to truncation.
David - even with a custom meta description, the item count still appears. So I think you're right, it may have something to do with the CMS.
Cheers,

This is not always the case, I have notice that alot of zencart sites show like this in the surps, but there in nothing in the source code passing this info ( no rich snippets, no info in the meta tags). Even when the meta descriptions are done manually, it does not remove it.
Zencart show eg "Displaying 1 to 40 (of 90 products)" on product pages but this is not tagged in anyway, just sitting in the Div. But in the surps google shows "Products 1 - 40 of 90" so it is not just copying the text on the page, but understanding it and reinterpreting it.
But I think EGOL is making the point, why do you want remove it? it makes you page stand out of the listings.

Yes, delete it. Sounds like you're using something to automatically generate meta descriptions which is prepending this item count. Either change the way that program is running or do your meta descriptions manually.

OMG! You have discovered how to do this???
Please write your secret up and submit it as a YouMoz post.
I wanna know how to make that happen. I want searchers to say... Holy Shit..... EGOL has 75 kinds of widgets in his store!.... and click in immediately!
This is so valuable!

GoogleBot still crawling HTTP/1.1 years after website moved to HTTP/2
Whole website moved to https://www. HTTP/2 version 3 years ago. When we review log files, it is clear that - for the home page - GoogleBot continues to only access via HTTP/1.1 protocol Robots file is correct (simply allowing all and referring to https://www. sitemap Sitemap is referencing https://www. pages including homepage Hosting provider has confirmed server is correctly configured to support HTTP/2 and provided evidence of accessing via HTTP/2 working 301 redirects set up for non-secure and non-www versions of website all to https://www. version Not using a CDN or proxy GSC reports home page as correctly indexed (with https://www. version canonicalised) but does still have the non-secure version of website as the referring page in the Discovery section. GSC also reports homepage as being crawled every day or so. Totally understand it can take time to update index, but we are at a complete loss to understand why GoogleBot continues to only go through HTTP/1.1 version not 2 Possibly related issue - and of course what is causing concern - is that new pages of site seem to index and perform well in SERP ... except home page. This never makes it to page 1 (other than for brand name) despite rating multiples higher in terms of content, speed etc than other pages which still get indexed in preference to home page. Any thoughts, further tests, ideas, direction or anything will be much appreciated!

Is there a way to EDIT the description that appears under my sitelinks?!
I know you can't add Sitelinks since Google does it automatically but is there a way to edit the description that appears on the sitelinks? It's not the same as the meta description I've written for my landing pages. The keyword where you can see the sitelinks is Digital Media Construction.

Meta description and Meta Keywords
Hi, We are new to SEO and have some meta Q's Should Meta descriptions and meta keywords be different on every page? Is it bad to have the same meta data repeated on the site? If it has to be different does it have to be totally different per page of just slightly different? Should the description contain keywords is there an advantage to that? Thanks Andrew

Authorship Markup worth it for "invisible" authors
Greetings everyone! Background I help run multiple continuing education sites for Allied Health professionals. Our editors do a great job of getting some of the best authors in their respective fields to come onto the site and present webinars and we publish articles around those presentations. I would love to be able to use the rel=author tag on these sites as the authors we use help to improve our credibility when a user is on the site and I would like to take advantage of this in the SERPs. The issue is that while most of these authors are leaders in their respective fields and have published in many academic publications, they are not on Facebook or Twitter, let alone Google+. Also, they are probably not interested in setting up a G+ profile. They are "famous" and well published within their fields, yet they are somewhat "invisible" on the web. We are looking to implement author bios on our site and then could use the rel=author tag internally so that seems like a good first step. The question is then around linking out with rel=me to any profiles (FB, Twitter, G+) The issue is that, as I mentioned above, the online profiles are pretty scarce. Question / Discussion Is it worth it to setup all the authorship markup to internal bios on a site when many of the authors are "invisible" on G+, twitter, FB, etc. and so I will be limited in how I can link rel=me to those profiles. If the Google+ profile is not available for an author, what do you prefer to link to. Would you say FB over Twitter as FB has more users, or if a user has both profiles, but uses twitter more often, would you link to the Twitter profile instead? Many of these authors work at the university and have a bio page on the university website, would it be working linking to that profile? How do you judge the "best" place to link to if there is no Google+ profile. Thanks!

Can anyone help me understand why google is "Not Selecting" a large number of my webpages to include when crawling my site.
When looking through my google webmaster tools, I clicked into the advanced settings under index status and was surprised to see that google has marked around 90% of my pages on my site as "Not Selected" when crawling. Please take a look and offer any suggestions. www.luxuryhomehunt.com

"Standout" tag and "Original content" tags - what's the latest?
In November 2010 Google introduced the "standout tag" http://support.google.com/news/publisher/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=191283 I can't find any articles/blog posts/etc in google after that date, but its use was suggested in a google forum today to help with original content issues. Has anyone used them? Does anyone know what's the latest with them? Are they worth trying for SEO? Is there a possible SEO penalty for using them? Thanks, Jean

Google's "cache:" operator is returning a 404 error.
I'm doing the "cache:" operator on one of my sites and Google is returning a 404 error. I've swapped out the domain with another and it works fine. Has anyone seen this before? I'm wondering if G is crawling the site now? Thx!
