Are jobsite themes harder to optimize than say a traditional website?
-
Until recently I have enjoyed a great deal of success with SEO on my websites and clients websites. SEO is more of a hobby than a profession for me however I am really struggling with my latest website www.securityjobsuk.co.uk - The keywords are easy, 1. security jobs and 2. security vacancies. The site has vanished off radar completely since I used the jobify theme. Has anyone had similar experience with job boards? Do they require more TLC / expert attention?

Hi Spencer, thank you for your reply.
I have not changed domains, the site name is being generated by Wordpress in the settings so can easily be removed. I think the H1 tags may be another debate, however will take it down to one per page. again most of the H1 are being generated by the theme rather than deliberate acts.

Wow, that's ridiculous. I just looked at https://www.97thfloor.com/ and their site is sort of cool, but it also really hurts my eyes.
I never understood SEO company's that preach one thing and then either do something else or just don't do exactly what they're telling their customers.
97th floor also has the same title tag for every page. I guess they just don't want to be found organically, which I guess might make sense when you work with big brands like they do.

I see it working now as well. Also Spencer, if you ever want a good laugh go check out the H1s for the Moz Recommended companies. I believe at least the first 5 on the page either have multiple h1s or none at all.

The content seems to be working fine for me on desktop and mobile.
Did you change domains when you changed themes or were you always http://www.securityjobsuk.co.uk/ but with better rankings? I ask because your domain authority is pretty low (18) and generally sites with that low of a domain authority don't rank at all.
The only other issue I can see is that your logo/sitename is sitting in a sitewide h1 and every page I looked at had at least 4 h1 tags, which is definitely not advised. Any page should only ever have one h1 and the logo shouldn't be a sitewide h1, at least in my opinion. That may be at least part of your issue.

hi Richard, thats interesting. I have checked this on various browsers and devices and was OK.

I can't even access your content on the site. I see home, mobile, and desktop as text and when I click desktop it just highlights mobile again, so nothing changes.

Ability to Transition Completed Wordpress Website to New Coder/Developer
We have worked with the same Wordpress developer since 2012. They recently redesigned our Wordpress site. We purchased a real estate theme and they performed major modifications to it. The project took 8 months. There are many customized widgets and multiple plugins. We hired a new SEO. The SEO is very comfortable coding. The SEO performed certain modifications and the code broke. The original developer stepped in and and helped restore the code. The SEO stated that the site should not be so delicate; that too many plugins and widgets are used making it inherently unstable. The original developer is claiming that the SEO did not follow best practices (they did not use a dev server to test). For a non technical business owner this is very disturbing. We finally agreed that the new SEO would make changes on a dev server and the original developer will check these changes to ensure they do not break the code. My question is, shouldn't a Wordpress site be simple enough to hand over to a decent coder with little risk of breaking the code? Are there any standards regarding the hand over of a site? I am comfortable with my developers, but what if they change professions or close their company? How would I transition the site? There must be standards and protocols that allow a third party, such as an SEO to change code without causing havoc. Any one have some insight?

Duplicate content on websites for multiple countries
I have a client who has a website for their U.S. based customers. They are currently adding a Canadian dealer and would like a second website with much of the same info as their current website, but with Canadian contact info etc. What is the best way to do this without creating duplicate content that will get us penalized? If we create a website at ABCcompany.com and ABCCompany.ca or something like that, will that get us around the duplicate content penalty?

Does redesigning a website affects SEO results
We have a website and we are getting good traffic to it. Its a travel related domain registered many years back. Now its ranking high for most of the potential keywords even if it is not at all SEO friendly (Domain is an exact match keyword). We are planning to redesign it. Will that affect the SEO Ranking? We need to ask some more doubts: 1. When redesigning we are planning to change the inner page URL. So it it wise to redirect (301) old URL to the new URL? Old url will not be there after redesigning. But its currently having page ranks. 2. Can we redirect more than one old url to a single new page? 3. Google new updates said "they will be going to diminish the exact match results domains". Does that updates affects us? 4. Any more suggestions for the redesigning?

What is the optimal URL Structure for Internal Pages
Is it more SEO friendly to have an internal page URL structure that reads like www.smithlawfirm.com/personal-injury/car-accidents or www.smithlawfirm.com/personal-injury-car-accidents? The former structure has the benefit of showing Google all the sub-categories under personal injury; the later the benefit of a flatter structure. Thanks

Site-wide footer links or single "website credits" page?
I see that you have already answered this question before back in 2007 (http://www.seomoz.org/qa/view/2163), but wanted to ask your current opinion on the same question: Should I add a site-wide footer link to my client websites pointing to my website, or should I create a "website credits" page on my clients site, add this to the footer and then link from within this page out to my website?

Using Wordpress as CMS for large Websites
Is Wordpress good enough to be used as a full fledge CMS for a large website. In particular, I'm talking about a news website. We have been online since 2002 but pretty soon we will have digitized our print newspaper archives of about 60 years. So, my question is, is it OK to use Wordpress for the entire website and if so what are some of the important things that need to be kept in mind. Cheers!
