Is anyone else looking into ARIA Roles vs HTML5 Markup and Schema.org
-
Hi im investigating the pros/cons of the Aria Roles, HTML5 Semantic Markup and Schema.org.
For those not in the loop:
- HTML5 Semantic Markup = Semantic Structure Layout. (i.e. Header, Footer, aside (sidebar) Nav)
- Aria Roles (WAL-Aria)- Defined for Screen Readers
- Schema.org - Microdata
I went gung-ho with some dev costs accounted for to push the new marekup schema. My devs being really good pushed back and in doing further research I have found that there is indeed some underlying complexities surrounding how we structure and markup these pages. A lot of the HTML5 Semantic Stucture code seems to lack adequate purpose, like it was recommended in 2004 (oh wait it was). Schema.org makes sense in the larger realm given in SEO land we love the search engines, although Schema.org vs. Facebook Open Graph. The ARIA attributes look great and work for screen readers (so I am supportive of pursuing) but do they offer and SEO benefit.
I would love to get the communities thoughts in general and or thoughts on ignoring HTML5 Semantic markup and just putting in Schema.org tags.
Is anyone else going through the same issues?
Regards,
Phil

Shhhhh!!!
I'm adding ARIA markup to the site I work on. It was easy to get stakeholder buy-in, as it makes for a good story either way. At minimum, you'll have a website that is more accessible to disabled users.
I know this post is from last year, but semantic HTML5 and schema.org in my mind are givens at this point.

Anyone have experience using BloomReach Organic?
Anyone interested in a reciprocal knowledge sharing opportunity? Does your team have experience with BloomReach Organic Services? We’re considering testing it out and are unsure of the long-term payoff given the substantial monthly fees for the SEO add-on. We're a pure e-commerce shop already using BloomReach’s merchandising solution so the technical integration is behind us.

What Does Your "Campaign" Process Look Like?
Hey Moz Community!! Looking to get a broader view of your own "campaign" process after the initial audit and fixes/implementation of recommendations with a new client. What do you look for/target first? What type of actions/deliverable items do you take have to start optimizing? Hoping to add to and/or improve my own process and see how everyone else plans and implements a campaign! Thanks!! 🙂

Google Alert not working - anyone else have this problem?
I have a Google Alert that has stopped pulling in recent results even though a web search indicates that the pages are being indexed. None of the alert settings have changed. Anyone else have this happen recently and know how to remedy this problem?

Looking For Offline Software that Synchronizes with an E-commerce Website.
First of all, this isn't really SEO related. I can see this being an interesting discussion. One of my websites has a POS system that has an integrated eCommerce store where using a third party software you can sync the data that is in the pos directly to the website. You can add what products you want on the website with the (offline) software and add all the online product essentials such as product pictures, shipping weights, titles and ECT. I am looking for a shopping cart system that is an offline software that you would install on your PC and basically add everything offline and then sync like the other software but without the pos. It would basically be like eBay turbo Lister but instead of eBay it would be your website...obliviously. I have been looking for a while now and can't seem to find anything. Is there such a thing? I know this would be kick ass platform to develop and I have everything mapped out how to do it if there isn't one out there. Looking for insight.

What does the New Frontier of Search Look Like? (Mobile and Tablet)
I'd like to start a discussion thread on the direction of search as it applies to mobile and tablet. Jeff Haden, one of our Inc.com contributors, wrote an article headline stating that SIRI would be the end of SEO. However, what the article really talks about is the direction mobile search is likely to take: 1. Search results will be bypassed 2. Even more emphasis on local 3. PPC will be irrelevant 4. Emphasis on social media I think these insights are fairly intuitive and it will be really interesting to see how the medium for mobile and tablet develops. It will be interesting to see what technologies will shape the means by which users find information and not just the search intent of the user. Please add any insights you may have or good reads you'd like to share here.
