How do websites get links here...

Does anyone know how people get into the "Top Links on This Topic" section of the Huffington Post?
I can see that the "Around the Web" section is curated by someone, in this case "Jeff Muskus" but there is no indication how the Top Links on This Topic appear on a page.
The only thing I noticed is that the original article appearing in HP is almost a year older than any of the referenced links.

It seems hit and miss on each article. Most flagged as "social reading" have some part of the widget, while others don't. Hmmmmm!

Can you share a link to the one with the klout scores.
Is there a date filter as well? Are you seeing examples where the links in the twitter box point to content newer than than the story, or does it all predate it?

I noticed on a different article the same widget was displaying Klout scores for various twitter users. I have a sneaking suspicion that the links come from high Klout score individuals who tweet about the issue. I'm going to test this out!

The fact that they are wrapped within the Twitter branding strongly suggests that they are coming from Twitter rather than being under editorial control from huffpost.
The naming of those elements in the HTML would seem to back that up as well: id="twt-top-links-page-1" and id="twitter_top_links"
It's not a widget style I have seen anywhere else, so presumably it uses the twitter API to do searches. What logic they use to rank those is anyones guess. Could be as simple as pulling the most tweeted URLs from posts matching the shown search string... could be something far more complicated.
Very interesting though... might be worth some experimentation comparing API results with the results on some of the more obscure articles.

Link removal
We were hit by penguin and have been going through the process of removing bad links. Things were looking up but then wasa 20% jump in our bad links. They all seem to be related. There are over 100 different domains that all seem to go back to mbiz. examples include http://www.5stone.com.cn/Literature-holders-.html http://www.building-stone.com/Display-furniture.html http://www.china-tombstone.com/Display-exhibition-products-.html It looks like they have automatically gathered data from google to create these pages. I would hope that the guys at Google are clever enough to be aware of these sorts of links. But if not I need to get them removed. I have tried whois but I cant find out how to contact these guys. Has anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks

What is the best way to get links now ?
I have been working for a long time in the industry now and I was away for some time. It seems that now after the google updates..It is difficult to do link building. I used to do quality white hat link exchange to very related sites. For example, I own a travel site about Paris (www.simplyparis.org) and I would exchange links with other travel sites about France or/and Paris. It was good for the visitors and SEO.. Now what is the best link building technique ? What should I do to promote my site now?

Is a no-follow link/sponsored link a good editorial link?
Ok maybe this is a dumb question. I really need some better, more quality backlinks pointing to my site. There is a site that has domain authority of 72, page rank 5 that is offering me a sponsored blog post. Do sponsored posts count as a good editorial link? Also what if they are no-follow (and how would I find out ahead of time), does that still give me link juice?

I am working on link building campaign and trying to gather inbound links from various subject external websites. I have big confusion with this effort. I am working on eCommerce website and getting inbound links from technology related website. So, Does it really matter for better performance? I want to give one example to get more idea. I am selling table lamps on my website and trying to get inbound links from that kind of websites which are highly dominating to table lamps or lighting industry. But, This is not only one case. Sometime, I have opportunities to create inbound links from different subject website. Simply, If I will compile one content for UGC section on SEOmoz and links to my website with table lamps so, Will it help me to rank for table lamps keyword? Exact match hyperlinks on external website always matter::: That I aware about it. But, what about subject orientation. I am Table Lamps monster & you are SEO monster. So, Will Google give benefit to that kind of links which are dominating different subject? I have solved some issues about quality of website after installing SEOmoz toolbar in my browser. Because, I or We are visiting multiple websites during daily stuff and may find out opportunities to drop our website link over there. But, I have fear to drop my website link in any website. Does it really matter quality or website & How can I judge it better rather than SEOmoz toolbar? Great idea to get back links in short order; however the links would be unrelated. . Is it worth the effort . BTW, it's a white hat method. Should I proceed?
I have come up with a very creative way to get some great back links using white hat methods. The problem is that the back links to the site would be to an interior page or external promotional website which then have links back to the main website. What kind of value for the main domain would this potentially achieve. What are peopLes thoughts on this idea?
