Why am I getting all these duplicate pages?
-
This is going for basically all my pages, but my website has 3 'duplicates' as the rest just have 2 (no index)
Why are these 3 variations counting as duplicate pages?
-
Actually, canonical tags are the absolute last-ditch way of dealing with this issue.
The correct solution is to use 301-redirects to force all version of the URL except the primary to redirect to the primary (also called canonical) URL. Canonical in this instance just means the primary or most authoritative version of something. Nothing to do with the tags of the same name.
The only reason to use the rel=canonical tag for this is if you have absolutely no way to do it through 301-redirects. (For instance your host doesn't allow access to the .htaccess file and your DNS system doesn't allow it either.)
Use Travis's info below for exactly how to do this in .htaccess. There are also many other posts here in Q&A that address this if you want more reference points.

Your next question is; "Great, but how do I fix it?"
It looks like this particular detail was missed during server configuration. You would handle this with rewrites via .htaccess if you're using an Apache server. However, if you're unfamiliar with the file - proceed with caution - if you can't push and pull from a test environment for some reason. A little bit of white space or a syntax error can knock the site down until you find the error.
Otherwise, Ultimate Htaccess has just about everything you need to know. Here are the commands you will need. If you're using WordPress, make sure the redirects go before the section of your file that pertains to WordPress.

Technically all of these urls are different. A web server could return completely different content for all the urls above. When Google “canonicalizes” a url, pick the url that seems like the best representative from that set.

Hello W2GITeam and welcome to the world of SEO!
The problem you've described is covered in basic/fundamental SEO concepts. The specific topic to help you turn those 3 pages into a single, non-duplicate, indexed page is through Canonical tags.
Learn more about those tags and how they help suppress duplicate content from being indexed here: http://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization

Filter Pages
Howdy Moz Forum!! I have a headache of a job over here in the UK and I'd welcome any advice! - It's sunny today, only 1 of 5 days in a year and i'm stuck on this! I have a client that currently has 22,000 pages indexed to Google with almost 4000 showing as duplicate content. The site has a "jobs" and "candidates" list. This can cause all sorts of variations such as job title, language, location etc. The filter pages all seem to be indexed. Plus the static pages are indexed. For example if there were 100 jobs at Moz being advertised, it is displaying the jobs on the following URL structure - /moz
Moz Pro | | Slumberjac
/moz/moz-jobs
/moz/moz-jobs/page/2
/moz/moz-jobs/page/3
/moz/moz-jobs/page/4
/moz/moz-jobs/page/5 ETC ETC Imagine this with some going up to page/250 I have checked GA data and can see that although there are tons of pages indexed this way, non of them past the "/moz/moz-jobs" URL get any sort of organic traffic. So, my first question! - Should I use rel-canonical tags on all the /page/2 & /page/3 etc results and point them all at the /moz/moz-jobs parent page?? The reason for this is these pages have the same title and content and fall very close to "duplicate" content even though it does pull in different jobs... I hope i'm making sense? There is also a lot of pages indexed in a way such as- https://www.examplesite.co.uk/moz-jobs/search/page/9/?candidate_search_type=seo-consulant&candidate_search_language=blank-language These are filter pages... and as far as I'm concerned shouldn't really be indexed? Second question! - Should I "no follow" everything after /page in this instance? To keep things tidy? I don't want all the variations indexed! Any help or general thoughts would be much appreciated! Amount of Pages Crawled Dropped Significantly
I am just wondering if something changed with the SEOMoz crawler. I was always getting 10,000 or near 10,000 pages crawled. After the last two crawls I am ending up around 2500 pages. Has anything changed that I would need to look at it see if I am blocking the crawler or something else?

Why do I keep getting "more than one canonical URL tag" on-page factor when, in fact, there is always only one?
The following are pages that SEOMOZ says have "more than one canonical URL tag" but they all have only one.
