Site structure headache
-
Hello all,
I'm struggling to get to grips with a websites site structure.
I appreciate that quality content is key etc, and the more content the better, but then I have issues with regards to doorway pages.
For example im now starting to develop a lot of ecommerce websites and want to promote this service. should we have pages that detail all of the ins and outs of ecommerce - or should we simplify it to a couple of pages. what is best practice?
Also isn't a content hub similar to having doorway pages?
let me know what you think!

Hello Bruce,
It was about promoting our ecommerce services - and all the different areas of that really...
Thanks

HI William
Are you taking about your site promoting your Ecommerce services, or the actual E-commerce sites you are developing?
Thanks

Thanks Travis, this makes sense

There are a couple of different meanings for a content hub. Both of which seem fine to me, so long as one doesn't churn out 'low quality' stuff. The latter would be more like a crap in fan approach.
So you could have a very high overview - but in-depth piece. Then you could write quality pieces that focus on facets of that. Ecommerce is definitely deep and wide enough for that approach. What could possibly be wrong with that?
A doorway page is generally just crap/cloaking. The link, to me, is a pretty good overview. So long as your pages aren't constructed or behave as such, you should be okayish.

Mobile site domain authority
Hello, I think this may be a coding issue, but hoping someone can help me. I am still having issues with our mobile site ranking, even though we created redirects/canonical to identify similar content between desktop version and mobile. I did notice through MOZ analysis of backlinks that we have no domain authority. If the mobile site is automatically detected dependent on the user, shouldn't we also have the same domain authority? How does that work exactly? How can we build up the domain authority for our mobile site? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Site verification in WMT
Hello all, I have a site and I want to set a preferred domain but when I do it says I need to verify my site but it gives me no ideas how to do that. I know that normally you have to do it when you set the account up but I had an analytics account for this domain first then just logged on with those details and I was in with no verification process. Cheers

Moving Old Site to New
Dear SEO Gurus, I have been working on #2 site for a couple of months and I think it is a good idea to redirect #1 (old site) to #2 (new site) below, yes? What is the most effective way of doing this? Do I have to 301 Redirect one page from the old site to a relevant page on the new site and do this for every page.... or can I do a 301 redirect for the whole old site to the new site? Thank you for your time in advance for helping me out! Sheryl | | 1 | Gazpachos - Restaurnte Y CantinaExplore http://www.gazpachorestaurant.com/ |

Duplicate Content - Mobile Site
We think that a mobile version of our site is causing a duplicate content issue; what's the best way to stop the mobile version being indexed. Basically the site forwards mobile users to "/mobile" which is just a mobile optimised version of the original site. Is it best to block the /mobile folder from being crawled?

On-Site Sitemaps - Guidance Required
Hi, I am looking to find good examples of on-site sitemaps. We already submit our XML sitemap regularly through GWMT but I now wonder if we still need an on-site sitemap, as we have about 30 static pages and 300+ Wordpress blogs which in a sense makes that a spammy page as it has too many links and a higher than average keyword density. The reason I am looking for good examples is that I want to create a basic on-site sitemap that aids navigation but is styled to look ok as well. The Solution I have in mind: mydomain.com/link-example-one.php

mydomain.com/link-example-two.php
mydomain.com/liink-example-ten.php mydomain.com/blog then links to my 300 WP blogs, broken down into chunks navigated by using breadcrumbs. Will Google crawl this ok or should I stick to the current format listing ALL posts on one page? Thanks0 -

Adding no follow links on my site
I am getting a warning about having too many links on my page www.accessoriesonline.co.uk (152) but I don't want to remove any links from the site. Its an ecommerce site with categories across the top, featured products and then a further category navigation in the footer. Would it be beneficial if I added a rel="nofollow" to the links in the footer as these are duplicates of the one's in the header or would this harm the links in the header and the destination URL's which I definitely want to be crawled? Also, does anyone know if SEOMOZ considers links with a rel=nofollow as an actually link when they calculate their overview? Thanks in advance
