So I was told that I have video that should be the next "viral video" in a particular vertical market. (It is an animal) Anyway I have 4 offers from different companies now that want to market it for me.  Junkin Media, Rumble.com, Newsflare and  Storyful.  Junkin wants ownership in perpetuity the other groups want for 1 year to market to news agencies. They are offering 60/40 revenue split with me getting 60. plus an extra $1 per thousand hits on the video.  Supposedly they will market it to for me to news agencies etc.

Anyway I was wondering if it would work best for me to market it myself and embed my business website link in the video for link juice on my home page.  Then I can post the video in various places and the link strength might help my domain or page authority.  Any suggestions about viral video use?

      Boo

You are right on. It can be very, very expensive.

Don't get me wrong, I love Wistia. I'm a Wistia customer myself. I just don't think it's right for every client/video/goal.

Use YouTube. Use YouTube analytics to find out what websites embedded your video. Perform outreach to those websites, asking for a link crediting you as the resource. Make sure the YouTube video is embedded on your website and the actual video description links to your website, to verify proof of ownership.

Yep...I spoke with communicated with Wistia and they said that my 39 sec Video taken off my Android phone would cost $1,500 a month/plan  for the viral video. (If it gets up to 2 million views) Which I believe it will. I really don't have $18K to spend for a link right now I guess. Sounds expensive when youtube posts it for free and pays me for ads.

            Hi Anthony,

What method would you use to get links to point back to the website using video?

I have used Wistia for a very long time and have had two very large viral videos & because there were hosted to send back links to the clients site when embedded on any site. The domain authority of 2 to a 6.

There was of course the cost of Hosting the videos on Wistia a small amount of money in my opinion. For the amount of URLs that point to the site now.

You cannot do that efficiently with YouTube.

I hope that clears things up.

            Tom

Disagree 100% with the Wistia mention. Do you know how Expensive it is to pay for bandwidth for a video with 500,000 views on Wistia? To me, the original question sounds like he wants to make money now. Not spend money for some links to his website.

I know Moz is tight with Wistia, but I'm seriously doubting why this was marked a Good Answer.

If you are going for Virality (and you don't want to sell the rights over), use YouTube. Perform outreach to media outlets yourself. Get it on paid StumbleUpon. You can earn a lot of money with the Google ads on top of the video and you can still build backlinks in the process (if that's even a concern of his).

So basically I just upload my video to their site with my business homepage link on  the page and they distribute the video?

I could not tell you if the deal that you and offered is good or not. Because I do not know how they're going to market the video. However if your end goal is to get links to your domain you might want to consider Wistia - http://wistia.com/learning/advanced-seo-with-distilled.

In order to get the links that you want you will have to use http://wistia.com/blog/video-backlinks. This combination used with your offer or on your site. Will point links back to your domain as long as you have set up the original SEO embed on your website correctly with a link pointing back to your domain.

Not waste your time with youtube as you be building links to YouTube.com and not whatever the existing domain you have.

I hope that answers the question,
                  Thomas

Why not just use an alias if the only change is a different domain Name?

We are rebranding our store with a new name. We have purchased a NewDomainName.  Can I just make the "Old Domain Name" an alias for the "NewDomainName"? The site will not change in any other way than having a new logo.  This is an e-commerce site with over 100 categories of artisan made products.  So once we move the site, the old domain will be empty. Thank you Stephen

Big Problems Using &'s in Business Name?

One of my clients is a law firm with a Business name like the following:
Rosenberg & Dalgren, LLP They get A TON of organic search traffic on their brand name above, but most people (95%) search "Rosenberg and Dalgren" instead of "Rosenberg & Dalgren". **Notice use of ampersand being used and alternatively, the word "and" being used. ** Currently, their local citations across the Internet (G+, YP, Yelp, etc) use the business name, "Rosenberg & Dalgren, LLP" (with ampersand). Here is the dilemma we are in... When someone searches "Rosenberg and Dalgren" in Google (which the majority of our search traffic does), Google does NOT show our local one-box on the right hand side of the SERPs (see example of a one-box I am referring to here http://blumenthals.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Screen-Shot-2013-09-28-at-9.59.58-AM.png). But when someone searches "Rosenberg & Dalgren" in Google, it does trigger our local one-box with photos, review ratings, links to our Google+ Local page, etc. WHICH IS GREAT! They have AWESOME reviews that command powerful social proof. We want that local one-box to show up! So my question is, what can I do to trigger that local one-box for both brand name searches for "Rosenberg & Dalgren" as well as "Rosenberg and Dalgren"? I am considering changing our NAP citations to have the business name be "Rosenberg and Dalgren" since that is what 95% of people search in Google to find them. I am guessing Google doesn't quite understand that "Rosenberg and Dalgren" is linked to "Rosenberg & Dalgren" via what it sees in the knowledge graph of the Internet (citations, website, etc). So how best should I handle this and get that local one-box triggering for the majority of our branded search traffic? Lastly, what is the best advice for including company/corporate designations in the NAP citations? (ie. LLP, LLC, Inc, etc) Thank you for any help and guidance! We appreciate it!

Best strategies for alcoholic beverages online store

Hi, we are now creating an strategy for an online store that sells alcoholic beverages and also drinks to mix with them (for example for creating cocktails). The company is located in Spain and wants to begin selling in France. We are thinking of optimizing SEO of the online store, but it is a little difficult cause the description of drinks are really similar, and the inner text too. (Gin is Gin, and you can't describe many things about it. The brand changes, and also the bottle, but it is very difficult to describe a product like that) So we are thinking of creating a content marketing strategy and alsoa social community using facebook and twitter, and so on. As allways we are thinking of a blog and placing the contents there and then distribute then in social networks.... As the the products are alcoholic drinks, we thought that we could give people ideas and recipes of cocktails, and also to create videos about how to prepare those cocktails. But I am not sure about this strategy, specially about the video generation, cause as the products are alcoholic beverages, I am not sure about the policies of Youtube about that kind of issues. I tried to search on the Web and find nothing. This kind of content is for adults only? If so, should we create it anyway? Is it worth it? What kind of strategies will you apply to gain visibility for an store like this? I will apreciatte your comments and advices. Thank you!

Best to have separate private and the business twitter accounts?

Just starting to use twitter and can see its potential but I have a personal account, one my holiday letting business and one for my CCTV installation business. Obviously the problem is I have to login to each account separately and post relevant tweets. I like the idea that people following because they're interested in the subject but the downside obviously is that I have to split my time and my total followers across three accounts. What do you do with your twitter presence focus on one account or have separate accounts?

Where is the best location for your blog?

This is one querstion I've been thinking about for a while: where is the best location for a blog on your website for SEO purposes? In this case I'm thinking the blog as part of a commerical website. Sub domain: You could put it on a subdomain such as blog.mydomain.com which seems quite popular (blog.kissmetrics for example) but surely this is giving the blog.mydomain sub domain the SEO value and not the www.mydomain sub domain. The one value I see here is that you could host this on another server and so any links to my main website would be from a different IP address. You could also point the sub domain to a WordPress.com blog. Internal: There are two ways the blog could be run internal to the website: 1) if the website is a WordPress.org installation you could just use one category as the blog or 2) a fresh WordPress.org installation in a sub folder such as www.mydomain.com/blog. The benefits I see with #2 is that any guest posters would only have access to the blog and not the main company website and you could make the look and feel of the blog to be more "bloggy" than the main commerical website. External: TBH I don't think there is any benefit to running a blog completely external to the commerical website (such as a WordPress.com blog) unless the company provides online services so that if the main website goes down, the blog will still be running. So, from the above, which is the best way to run a commerical site blog? Or have I missed some other options?
