Yext & Moz Local - Avoiding Dupliates
-
What happens if we are using Yext and Moz Local at the same time? I hear it can create duplicates. However if the NAP is exactly the same on both, why cant the aggregators/citation sources figure this out on their own?
I need to develop a clearer understanding before i start submitting a select few of my clients through Yext. I do have the option to opt out of the Factual aggregator on Yext. Instead we would only update the sites that Yext has access to.
End of day we are going to continue using Moz.com/local but yext saves us dozens of man hours while trying to clean up citations and fix duplicates (temporarily ofcourse until we contact them ourselves).

Thanks to both of you. This all makes sense. We do have an option to opt out of certain sites and feeds like factual and that is what we have done.
If we find duplicates i shall let you know.

Hey there,
Just wanted to clarify on this thread--
The only possible overlap will be on Factual. We (Moz Local) will be locked out of updating Superpages, and you can simply choose not to authenticate Foursquare. And as long as you are submitting the same info, Factual will only maintain one record for each location. If you DO find that there are duplicates created as part of this process, we'd definitely like to know (davidm@moz.com) because it's not the behavior that should be happening...and in an absolute worst-case scenario, you'll be able to close duplicates directly from he dashboard using our newly-announced feature

Hi Waqid.
Yes, it can create duplicates. That's because you don't have control over the back-end systems at the Yext, Moz or any of the data recipients. Each has its own way of parsing, mapping, editing and publishing the data. They do, of course, look at NAP to try to minimize duplicates from occurring, but ultimately it's up to you to monitor and remove any duplicates.
Yext and Moz don't overlap completely in the directories they feed. If you have the option to turn off a subset of the feeds Yext creates, you can use that to minimize the likelihood of duplicates occurring.
If you're planning on making this a business-as-usual practice, I'd go slow, experiment and learn. You might get a good case study out of it you could publish on the Moz blog!

What could be stopping us from ranking locally?
We do most of our business in national SEO and we do reasonably well, but we are entering a niche where search engine results are served locally. This is the page we are trying to get ranked: https://idearocketanimation.com/video-production-company/ The page has been indexed We beat all the rankers in Domain Authority We're competitive in terms of reviews We're strongly competitive in terms of load time We are a SAB, but other SABs seem to rank, and even companies with no GMB listing rank We have mentioned our locality on the page and meta title It's not that we are not ranking well... we're not even in the top 50. Is there something I've done wrong, or forgotten to do? What might be stopping Google from ranking us locally?

Local Listings - where to manage?
I'm optimizing for a a local client and I have suggested we take a look at Moz Local to manage their listings. I showed the customer the data aggregators that Moz Local would push data to. (Which of course they had never heard of). They were concerned about YELP and TripAdvisor, etc. If I populate their local business data into Moz Local > Moz local sends it to > lets say Factual... does Factual send/share this information to Yelp? Or do I need to ad the company information in Yelp or TripAdvisor in addition to what Moz Local is sharing to the aggregators? Would love some feedback! Thanks, Jolie

Actions to take when client is missing local SEO usernames and passwords
Hello, I'm doing an SEO analysis for a company and they told me that they do not have their local SEO usernames and passwords that they have already done. They did about 20 local directories and switched business models and needs to correct them without the usernames and passwords. I do not specialize in local SEO, and I would simply start from scratch, but what else can I tell them about doing a good job rebuilding with a new business model without the 20 usernames and passwords. Thanks, Bob

SEO best practices for store locator and local pages - 301 or not?
I have been struggling to answer this on my own and now throwing up for the Moz community for a life line. Our company has several location across 6 states. We have local pages that we are working to improve with better content. We also have a store locator that will list the stores but the pages are not the same. See below example. I can't help but feel like I am splitting juice and traffic that should be combined to one page for each location. Any ideas or advice on how we can best combine/funnel the traffic to one optimized page? Here is an example: State local page - http://www.jakesfireworks.com/michigan/ Locator page for state - http://www.jakesfireworks.com/locator/?state=MI City local page - http://www.jakesfireworks.com/michigan/grand_rapids City Locator page - http://www.jakesfireworks.com/locator/?id=183&state=MI

Brand term for local showing wrong knowledge graph
It was discovered that when you search our brand and our city "alaska airlines seattle" that the brand knowledge graph shows a building at the University of Washington that is named after us as part of a sponsorship deal. This seems logical that it would do that since the building is branded Alaska Airlines and it is in Seattle. The problem is information listed would confuse customers that call the number posted and instead of our customer service they are getting the University. I admit I am not too familiar with local SEO so any help is greatly appreciated. r6GlDj9 wMZQnRB

Default Local SEO question: Does Google really do improptu check ins?
I have a client who has multiple locations within his state, many of which are satellite offices. Although they don't have anyone working at these satellite offices full time, they have office space available to them their, someone who can take calls/mail and do use the space frequently in person. We've been in the process of cleaning up duplicate and incorrect listings in directories to get on the map in the SERPs in these markets, but the local SEO outfit we've hired has come back with a problem I found surprising. In order to clean up the duplicate & incorrect Google+ profiles that we've got out there for these offices, we evidently need to work with an actual Google moderator. This moderator has said that the satellite offices in question are actually not real business locations and are in violation of G+ guidlines. The local SEO I'm using says that it's not uncommon for Google to actually send someone out to do an in person improptu visit when they are suspicious that a listing might not belong in their listings, and I find this really surprising. Do any of you have any experience with whether this is the case? FWIW, this is a real business that could have someone working remotely in these offices remotely if that's what it took to make Google happy, but they'd rather not and certainly don't need to in order to offer their services in these markets.
