Anyone else see a redundant hostnames message in GA this morning?
-
Message reads as follows:
Property sqlsentry.com is receiving data from redundant hostnames. Consider setting up a 301 redirect on your website, or make a search and replace filter that strips "www." from hostnames. Examples of redundant hostnames: sqlsentry.com, www.sqlsentry.com.
We have had our preferred domain set to www for months and I've never seen this error before today. A quick search shows others getting this as well. I did notice our 301 is no longer working so I am going to set that back and see what happens.
-
Thanks. We made sure a 301 redirect is in place but the error is still there. It's been days now. I'm not sure what else to do.
-
Saw this recently on a site with a WordPress installation added in a subdirectory. The root domain was set up with the www but /blog was not...
-
I actually just work for this company and have shifted from a support role into an SEO role. I agree about less hands in the cookie jar but as you said, it doesn't always work that way
-
Eww that's scary!
Is this your site or a clients site that you are working on? If an outside developer or team of devs are working on a project that you own or one that is for a client of yours, I would request that you are consulted prior to any changes like that.
Less hands in the cookie jar the better as you know. However, I know that isn't always the scenario but if a cookie gets a bite taken from it, I'd like to know who did it and when they did it at the very least.
I hope fixing the 301 clears up the issue you are having in GA!
-
Unfortunately I have no way of knowing what the developers do so they could have modified it. I've asked that it be righted. Thanks!
-
Interesting... I'm not getting this message on any properties in our account. But thank you I will keep an eye out in case something pops up on us!
I wonder why your 301 would no longer be working though...
Is there anything you can remember that was done that could have caused that? Was your htaccess file modified without your knowledge?
Kind of troubling I'd say. Set that back and see if that message clears up for you!

Did any one else notice rankings drops since 14th-21st Feb this year?
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some guidance please. Our website saw a drop in rankings on around 14th - 21st Feb 2019 and the rankings haven't really recovered. I can't see anything significant in Search Console, there was a possible unconfirmed algorithm update during early Feb but I can't really find anything factual to determine if this was the cause. The ranking drop seems to be across different keywords. What else should I check? Did anyone experience such a drop around this time and if so found out why this happened and how to recover? Thanks for your help 🙂 Caroline

Anyone else notice a traffic drop around June 28th 2016?
Hey guys, i know there is a lot of chatter about a potential google update on / around June 28th... well, one of the sites I manage was hit pretty bad. I have attached an image showing what our ranking looked like before and after the unconfirmed update. As you will see, we plummeted that day and have not yet recovered. Has anyone else experienced drops? I'm trying to identify potential causes. I've started an SEO audit and so far I have identified 1 big fish and a few niggly bits. Big Fish: non-www version of site had redirect rule overwritten by CloudFlare page rules and is using a 302 redirect instead of a 301. Now could this be the cause? Niggly bits: technical SEO issues and optimisations like having unique meta titles etc. If you have noticed drops or think you can shed some light on my situation that will help me then I would love to hear from you 🙂 Thanks upload.png upload.png

Has anyone used Capterra and will I get penalized for paid links?
Hello - I'm contemplating buying a directory listing on the software promotion website http://www.capterra.com/ . It's a site that gets quite a bit of traffic for people searching for software products and I was interested in promoting my software product there, but I don't want to ruin our very good standing with Google at this time if Google deems Capterra as selling paid links. I'm not interested in this for links but instead as a good source of referral traffic for my software site. If anyone has used Capterra or has advice on whether Capterra might injure my SERP rankings, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Jeff

Site refuses to improve rankings. Can someone else put a set of eyes on this for me and see what I am missing?
Hello! We've been successful with over 40 clients and getting them to great results in our industry, insurance. We recently acquired a new client who had an existing website with prior SEO results a very spammy blog and many spammy links. We've removed many of the blog articles and links using the Google Disavow Tool We've been monitoring this site in a campaign on Moz, but we're seeing zero improvement week to week. Can someone put another set of eyes on this and see if we're simply just missing something? Results for all 30 of our tracked keywords, zero are in the top 50! I would guess this was an algorithm penalty, but it has been 3 months now since we've made the changes and nothing is changing... not even a little bit! Any help/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you and enjoy Labor Day weekend!

Are you still seeing success with EMD's?
I am curious if any other SEO's are still seeing success with exact matching domains. I am not seeing ANY changes to any of my clients rankings since the "Exact Match Domain" filter came about in September. Also while I have conducted SERP audits in my neck of the woods I am noticing EMD's are still doing very well. What are you seeing?

Anyone else noticing that Bing & Yahoo are delivering widely different results
Anyone else noticing that Bing & Yahoo are delivering widely different results in past week. Prior to that after they started using Bing SE it seemed like they were identical, but no more. I am using RankTracker and getting this on several web sites.

Can anyone explain these changes to our Titles in the SERPS?
Hi there, We've been doing well in the SERPS over the past few weeks. Our previous meta title was displayed as: "Hunter Original Tall - Buy Original Tall Online Here" However, recently we've seen the title in the SERP switch over to: "Hunter Original Tall - Cloggs.co.uk" This has occurred on several of our product pages which display a particular style of a certain brand. So for example: "Ugg Bailey Button - Cloggs.co.uk" Has anyone else experienced these changes or can explain why this may have happened?
