Software to indicate search volumes/trends
-
Is there any software that exists to help provide an indication of the search volumes or trends behind keywords?
Currently we use google trends for a YOY and WOW view for some select KW's but the reality is are search volumes are effected by 1,000's of KW's and trying to get an accurate view of overall trends and theme with our product sector is difficult.
I'm interested to find out if there is software which is an alternative to google trends or if there is 3rd party software available that lets us process google trends data in bulk?

Definitely check out our Keyword Difficulty tool. It uses Bing's API to track keyword volume.
When I've done this type of research, I've used a mix of metrics: keyword difficulty, Google trends, Adwords, etc., to figure out estimated volume.

As far as I know this is still the industry standard to evaluate keyword traffic volume: http://moz.com/blog/keyword-volume-tools
Google trends can tell you if a keyword is searched more than another and give you a rough estimate of how much more, but I don't think it's a reliable source for estimating keyword traffic volume. If you try to do the math, checking one keyword volume in Google Keyword planner, checking the 1:N ration in Trends, and multiplying... You often find odd numbers.
You may check http://semrush.com which does also provide traffic volume estimation for keywords in their reports. I am sure there are other tools out there trying to figure out traffic volume as well, but the accuracy of those tools is disputed.

What tools and metrics do you use to show a topic's search interest over time?
I have a foundation repair client that is down in leads for the structural repair portion of their business. They have not lost any major rankings, but leads are down compared to last year. They asked if people are searching for this type of work less this year compared to last. I checked Google Trends and Keyword Planner data but found very different results. Is either of these tools accurate, or is there a better tool to use?

Weird Bing Search Results
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can explain what's going on here, because after hours of searching I cannot find anyone having the same problem... We use Bing search to provide the site search functionality on our website and recently for a particular keyword search, the results include several pages which are not on our site: they are on completely different domains! You can replicate it by going to bing.com and using the "site:" operator together with that keyword. Again, results from other domains appear in amongst the pages on our site. I cannot find any other keywords which produce this same behaviour: every other keyword I have tried shows only results from our site. However, I obviously haven't tested absolutely every possible keyword combination. Bing isn't "padding" out the results or anything like that, because we have more than enough pages referencing this term on the site, and I'm at a total loss as to why this is happening. So, I suppose my question is: has anyone ever had this happen to them? And if so, what did they do about it? Many thanks, Dan

Any suggestions why I would rank 1 on google and be on 3rd page for bing/yahoo?
Currently the site I'm working on ranks very well on google rankings but then when we cross reference into yahoo and bing we are basically in the graveyard of keywords. (bottom of 3rd page). Why would that be? Any suggestions or things I can do to fix this or troubleshoot it? Here are some things I can think of that might affect this but not sure. 1. our sitemap hasn't been updated in months and URL changes have been made 2. Onsite for yahoo and bing is different from google? 3. Bing is just terrible in general? 4. Inbound links? This one doesn't make sense though unless the search engines rank links in different ways. All jokes aside I would really appreciate any help as currently the few top ranked keywords we have are about 30% of our organic traffic and would have a huge affect on the company if we were able to rank as we should across all platforms. Thanks!

QA for Sitelinks Search Box
hi all, I have added the suggested code to my homepage as follows: This was added 10 days ago. I continue to see on Google SERPs a search box sitelink, but it produces a page of results on a secondary SERP page for my site instead of bringing people directly into my site to the search result page relative to their query. Is there a time lag from the time the code was implemented to when it is functional on Google? Is there any way to QA the code to ensure it works correctly and if Google has yet to include it in their latest cache?

Trends in publishing
In the last 3 years there happened a lot in online publishing. New magazines like lifehack, upworthy, viral nova revolutionized the publishing business. Not only got these website within up to 2 years 5 Million unique+ visitors, they also changed the art of writing in the internet. Viralnova and Upworth through headlines, lifehack through media. Even the monetization changed and Upworthy realized a new trend, that simple ad-showing business will die and ads have to be more sutil (sponsored posts). Even old media like the huffingtonpost started spamming and recurating content, instead of focusing on old-school journalism. Unfortunately there are many sad parts: If I research a topic I only find main stream articles that don't go into deepth anymore. The physics nerd that publishes amazing and analytical content got replaced by the newest gawker article. And sites with (from my point of view) trash content like about.com and webmd.com are still big in business. I saw them dying already 2 years ago but it never happened. The content of this huge websites is basically the same. And their backlinks come mainly from PR and an existing brand. Nobody would like out to an about.com article if it wouldn't be about.com . Newcomers have a tough job: SEO for 2014+ seems to me consisting out of getting covered in one of these big magazines. Do you agree? Will this trend continue? What adjustments did you make for your own business? I started to adapt headlines slightly and hired a designer who just creates illustrations related our articles. I also noticed that you cannot build sites about small niche topics anymore, everything has to go big. More categories, more mainstream. What are your thoughts?

Geographical location influencing Auto Complete / Search Suggest
I was reading this q and a and found some video that Rand had made about this and how using influence to change the auto completes in Google. Is there any chance Google is also dividing the lists from a Geographical location. So users on the East Coast might see something different than the West Coast. I also wonder if Google takes local search over regional. That could also make the auto completes different based on location. Just curious...
