QA for Sitelinks Search Box
-
hi all,
I have added the suggested code to my homepage as follows:
This was added 10 days ago.
I continue to see on Google SERPs a search box sitelink, but it produces a page of results on a secondary SERP page for my site instead of bringing people directly into my site to the search result page relative to their query.
Is there a time lag from the time the code was implemented to when it is functional on Google? Is there any way to QA the code to ensure it works correctly and if Google has yet to include it in their latest cache?
-
FYI...my sitelink search boxes now take visitors to my site results page and no longer a secondary google serp. guess I just had to wait a bit longer for them to update their index.

Yes, I agree that most search box sitelinks that have not been optimized produce a result such as the YouTube example.
However, many companies have taken that sitelink and modified the code on their site so that when used on a SERP, it directs traffic to their site's search result page for that query. an example would be if you go to Google and type Bestbuy.
The way I can tell the difference before ever typing anything into the search box is that those sites that have the basic sitelink will show in the box "Results from brand.com". Those that have optimized show "Search brand.com".
I want to know how to produce the second example so when people search, they come directly to my site instead of another search result page on Google.

Hi friend,
Before getting to the issue, I would like you to please head to Google, type, youtube in the search box and hit Enter. When you see the sitelinks search box for Youtube, type anything in it and hit Enter. You will see list of items from Youtube in the form of an SERP and it will not take you to Youtube directly. This is how sitelinks search box works and the sitelinks search box will not take the visitor directly to the website in question.
Another example would be, to type hayesandjarvis in Google and do a search in the sitelinks search box.
Please let me know if I am missing anything here. Please feel free to write back.
Best regards,
Devanur Rafi

Search Console Click Through Results
Hi Moz Community, I've newly started using Google's search console on a regular basis, and I have a query about the results coming from the platform. For example, I added this article URL to the console with field "URL containing" and "URL exact", and the results showed 71 clicks and 436 impressions over 12 months. However, when looking at the queries that show in the results to see where the clicks are coming from, all of them state there's no clicks from the dozen or so queries that show. Am I doing something wrong here? Is there a field I need to fill in to show more results/top results? I've tested a few article URL's and the same has happened. Thanks in advance for any help.

Big hit taken on Google Search in Jan - Any Ideas?
Hello, I manage a news site that gets new items posted daily. We had had a pretty even keel with Google search and ranking for some time now only on the 9th Jan we took a massive drop and have no recovered except for one big spike on the 29th January. The only think we had done differently was not post as much over Christmas for about a week as people were on holiday but if this was the reason for it the posting is back to normal now and has been since the 6th Jan and nothing has recovered. The site is wjlondon.com - any ideas greatly appreciated. Thank you

.org appearing in browser search when .com is the primary domain
In most browsers, our visitors search for our domain and when they start typing the URL the drop down auto choices list .org as the first choice for our website. We do own the .org but it points to the .com and the .com is our primary domain. Why does .org seem to dominate Google search in this case? And since we have the .org forwarded to the .com, do we need to be concerned?

Demoted Sitelinks Not Going Away!!!
I've demoted several sitelinks for one of our clients, but they are still showing up. They were demoted several weeks ago, so I would think that they would have been removed by now. I know that these demotions are merely suggestions for Google to follow, but they are usually good at honoring demotions. The issue is that our client hosts several job portals for clients on subdomains of their site and still need traffic going to these pages. Redirect workarounds have been suggested on the Google WM forums, but this is a unique situation. Personally, I think that because our client is an HR software company, Google sees the client job portal sites on their subdomain as still being relevant to the overall site, and won't honor the demotions because of that. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with subdomains and sitelinks? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Site name appended to page title in google search
Hi there, I have a strange problem concerning how the search results for my site appears in Google. The site is Texaspoker.dk and for some strange reason that name is appended at the end of the page title when I search for it in Google. The site name is not added to the page titles on the site. If I search in Google.dk (the relevant search engine for the country I am targeting) for "Unibet Fast Poker" I get the following page title displayed in the search results: Unibet Fast Poker starter i dag - få €10 og prøv ... - Texaspoker.dk If you visit the actual page you can see that there is no site name added to the page title: http://www.texaspoker.dk/unibet-fast-poker It looks like it is only being appended to the pages that contains rich snippets markup and not he forum threads where the rich snippets for some reason doesn't work. If I do a search for "Afstemning: Foretrukne TOPS Events" the title appears as it should without the site name being added: Afstemning: Foretrukne TOPS Events Anybody have any experience regarding this or an idea to why this is happening? Maybe the rich snippets are automatically pulling the publisher name from my Google+ account... edited: It doesn't seem to have anything to do with rich snippets, if I search for "Billeder og stuff v.2" the site name is also appended and if I search for "bedste poker bonus" the site name is not.

Do search engines penalize for too many domain aliases?
I have a main domain name and 20+ related alias domains pointing to it. Is there a danger, penalty or concern that I should be aware of related to alias domains? I saw something on Google "Apps Administration" under "What is a domain alias" saying "you can add up to 20 domian aliases" but I don't use Google Apps. Please advise... Thank you, Chris
