Amazing results even after 1 week!
-
Have to say, I'm pretty impressed with Moz, this is now my first full week of membership and wow have I seen some great increases in my site stats! Hopefully this isn't just a blip and that it wil continue for weeks and months to come.
- Authority has jumped from 27 to 34
- Google page one results jumped from 7 to 13
- Trafffic increased by 12%
- Solved duplicate content issues
- Started a proactive social media campaign
I could go on and on, but can't say enough positive things about the services that are provided here, an investment well worth paying and already paying for itself.
The goal for the next few weeks is to improve domain authority from 34 to 40+, I've been using long tail phrases for my articles, which has been tremendously beneficial.
One query is that even though the domain authority has moved from 27 - 34, I don't appear to have gained any extra backlinks - perhaps I'm misunderstand this metric?
The other query is that there are 100's of backlinks pointing to my domain (I provide an open source cms so I know the links are there), but none of these lnks appear to be counting towards my authority. Is there a way I can submit these pages to the index on their behalf?
Cheers, Lee

Hi Marijn,
thanks for responding, I guess I got the wrong impression of the Moz functionality, thought that the weekly updates were instantanious and provide a "as it is now" perspective of authority, so its handy to know, so thanks for the share
I have a query about updates, (in relation to the Google index) that you might be able to help me with? Only if you have the time of course.
I provide software that displays a footer link, I know for sure which sites are using my software and that a little under half retain the footer link.
A best case guess of the amount of links that are pointing to my main are in the order of 400k (maybe even double this amount), because it varies per site dependant on the amount of pages, one site, has 10k pages (which is probably the largest) but the others range from 100 to a couple of thousand pages (all of which contain a link back).
The problem is that my domain authority doesn't seem to reflect this amount of links. One would think even new sites would pass a little link juice, or is it possible that Google is discounting most or a selection of them?
I was thinking of compiling a list of sites that use my software, with links so that Google will crawl the sites, but I read that this can affect authority negatively?
fyi - Moz says that there are only 35k, which is less than a 10th (at best) of what's out there.
Best wishes, Lee

I wonder if your metrics really jumped up since a week because you're using Moz, let's still give them some credit but they updated their Moz metrics last week so the work to up your authority was probably already done 1,5 months ago.
Next to that, there is no way unfortunately to tell Moz about the links that you've got but are not in the list at the moment, you have to trust Moz and hope for the best on their next update that these links will be in there index.
Hope this helps!

Question on Pagination - /blog/ vs /blog/?page=1
Question on Pagination Because we could have /blog/ or /blog/?page=1 as page one would this be the correct way to markup the difference between these two URL? The first page of a sequence could start with either one of these URLs. Clarity around what to do on this first page would be helpful. Example… Would this be the correct way to do this as these two URLs would have the exact content? Internal links would likely link to /blog/ so signal could be muddy. URL: https://www.somedomain.com/blog/

<link rel="canonical" href="https://www.somedomain.com/blog/?page=1"> URL: https://www.somedomain.com/blog/?page=1
<link rel="canonical" href="https://www.somedomain.com/blog/?page=1"> Google is now saying to just use the canonical to the correct paginated URL with page number. You can read that here:
https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/ecommerce/pagination-and-incremental-page-loading But they do not clarify what to do on /blog/?page=1 vs /blog/ as they are the exact same thing. Thanks for your help.0 -
How to rank 1 page for multiple keywords in the new way
Hi There It has been a little while since I was involved with KW's in earnest. 1.5 years ago and beyond I did really well with SEO. I'm not in a hugely competitive market but we found our keywords, we wrote great web pages for 1,2,3 keywords and when we found more great keywords that we built a new page to rank for. For example: One big hitting keyword was "Rugged PDA", we created a category page for Rugged PDA's. Another was "Rugged Handheld" so we had a new page for that. We then long tailed "semi rugged PDA", "waterproof rugged PDA" etc etc and built sub category pages. We were legit, did lots of content marketing, ran a blog tweeted etc and we did really well to be honest. However these days it's not working, One of Rand's whiteboard sessions stated that you need to build bigger topic based pages that delivered on more keywords (The one about shoes!). This is great as we love that idea as we can have 1 big category page that offers great value to the visitor, however I am struggling to work out how we target a bigger list of keywords to the one page or to fewer pages. To underline this the MOZ page rankers also still seem to work in the same way where they expect 1 or 2 KW's per page to get A ranks to them, so I'm confused!! For example Rugged PDA is an old term, Google trends is showing that it's glory days are over and we know that the term "Rugged Smartphone" is the one to use as we all use smartphones not PDAs these days. However we also see a lot about Rugged + Phone, Mobile, Cell, Handheld, tablet, device, phablet... all relevant to one big category page. So I run these KW's through google search to see if the same pages come up as a test to see if Google thinks they all mean the same, I get a few, but not much overlap. How do we therefore have 1 page that talks about all kinds of great stuff about the "Rugged smartphone" but one that also targets rugged handheld, rugged android device etc etc? I've spent 2 days catching up, i'm none the wiser on this specific element but i'm sure I am just missing one key element of common sense here and any help is very much appreciated. Regards Dave

Google instant results different to results shown when press enter
A client's site, www.duorol.co.uk is top (or second if a youtube video makes an appearance) for the term duorol if you press enter after typing it in to google UK. Before you press enter though, their site is not listed in the results bought back for instant search. It's the same behaviour in incognito mode too. Very weird I thought. Does anyone have any ideas please? Their site's only been live about a month. Could that be anything to do with it?

No Search Results Found - Should this return status code 404?
A question came up today on how to correctly serve the right status code on pages where no search results are found. I did a couple searches on some major eccomerce and news sites and they were ALL serving status code 200 for No Search Results Found http://www.zappos.com/dsfasdgasdgadsg http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=sdafasdklgjasdklgjsjdjkl http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=dfjakljgdkslagklasd&_sacat=0 http://www.cnn.com/search/?query=sdgadgdsagas&x=0&y=0&primaryType=mixed&sortBy=date&intl=false http://www.seomoz.org/pages/search_results?q=sdagasdgasdgasg I thought I read somewhere were it was recommended to serve a status code 404 on these types of pages. Based on what I found above, all sites were serving a 200, so it appears this may not be the best practice. Any thoughts?

Authorship and picture in search results
Tim and Kris Hallbom at this site: nlpca(dot)com are authors of several books and many great articles, and they would like their picture to show up in their search results. Articlebase.com contacted us and called it authorship, and said that they could get our picture to begin showing up in appropriate google searches. But we don't want to go through Articlebase.com, how do we do this? Thank you.

We are still seeing duplicate content on SEOmoz even though we have marked those pages as "noindex, follow." Any ideas why?
We have many pages on our website that have been set to "no index, follow." However, SEOmoz is indexing them as duplicate content. Why is that?

Adding Google +1 To My Site
This may seem like a silly question, but I had my site designed by a third party and I don't know how to find this info. I want to add Google +1 button to my site. I've already added the script that makes it work in my , but don't know how to add the to the part of my site I'd like the icon to appear. If you take a look at my site, http://www.youdrivethesuccess.com/, you will see the twitter and facebook icons that follow you around the site in the top right of the page. I'd like to drop in the +1 right next to them, but I don't know how to get to it. How do I access this on the server? What section of my FTP do these lil icons live? A folder? Any direction is greatly appreciated...thanks.
